Does anyone have any good sources for getting ringtones? My cell company(AT&T) offers some, but none I like.

I wanted to customize some on itunes, but I think those only work with the iphone, which I don't have!

Thanks!

You don't need an iphone for itunes ringtones. You probably just need the usb cable that goes from your phone to the pc. I have the Nokia phone from AT&T and I can add any of my mp3s to my cell phone.

ahhhhh. I was wondering if that would work. That would be cool. I have a new Samsung phone, so I'm assuming that would work too. I need to find a USB cable then. I've never seen that as an accessory, though. I may need to order it?

Does it place the ringtone right into the place you'd scroll through to choose one? I've never downloaded one before, so I have no idea what happens once it gets to the phone.

I downloaded the nokia software from the website and moved my music with it.. not sure if samsung has the same thing but they probably do. I haven't made a ringtone in Itunes but I think you just edit the mp3 to be a ringtone and transfer it to your phone. Or they have ones already made you can download.

Order the cable online, its way cheaper than buying it in the store.. although you might be able to load the ringtone directly on your memory card if you have an adaptor for the memory card.

I want to make my own ringtone, using my own words. For the completely technologically-inept, is that possible?

It is possible to make your own ringtones, but there are a few things you need first. For one thing, make sure your phone is BREW-enabled so you can access the file system on your phone. Beyond that, you'll need:
- a data cable for your phone that will link your phone to your computer, usually via a USB port.
- A program to edit .mp3's such as WavePad
- A program that links your computer to your phone such as BitPim or Datapilot.

Once you have all the tools, the rest is cake. All the ringtones on my current phone are homemade from my own .mp3 collection.

Woo! For the technologically-inept and -ignorant, that makes my head swim! However, I will look at it again later and see if I can figure it out. Thank you!! [:D]

Are there windows-standard counterparts to those? Or are there freeware versions?

audacity is a freeware mp3 editor for windows.

PhoneZoo has thousands of different ringtones, allows you upload your own audio files and create your own, etc..

All free.
