I thought I would tell you about the reason I posted this topic...

As I said before... I have dealt with fear and anxiety in the past to a great extent. It used to overwhelm me... overcome me... and consume me more than imaginable. So much so that I couldn't eat, sleep or function.

By the grace of God... I have been delivered from the worst... the anxiety. Yet... still, every so often, that old fear creeps back in. Not like in the past by any means.

I posted this because of something that happened the night before (I posted).

My daughter, son-in-law and grand-babies were heading from Oregon to So Cal... to my oldest daughters house, where we'll meet up with them all this weekend. They left a week early to do some other visiting. They stopped to visit us before hitting the road... and soon after they took off, I headed off to bed. As I lay there... that old fear started to come on. Fear for their safety on the road. I started praying, saying, "Oh God... I don't want to go through this again... I just can't! I cannot deal with these fears... You HAVE to take them from me." Just as I finished praying this, my daughter called me to say goodnight and informed me of the Jaguar that was doing 90 miles per hour and passed them, then "kissed" the center divider and spun out right in front of them. My son-in-law swerved and by the grace of God, was able to avoid the accident.

We hung up and as I snuggled into my pillow, I could feel God saying, "Do you see?" It was His way of telling me that there was no need to fear... His hand was upon them.

The fear left and I was able to fall right to sleep.

The "pat answer" of course is GOD... prayer... supplication... etc.

There are so many people that deal with this... I thought it would be good to hear everyones suggestions.

Thanks to all who have replied so far!

This reminds me of when my now husband but then b/f was out of state. He called to rub in about the nice weather as I rushed to say: You need to try and change your flight or you won't be coming home period. We are getting a blizzard!
Oh how my anxiety and fear dwelled, because I would have to pick him up from the airport and people are just crazy driving during these times.

Anyhow he went to the airport and I prayed feverently maybe "frantically." I do not like driving under these circumstance, because one the snow covers the lines, Well to be frank everyone thinks they own the darn road!
So they changed his flight, however only to Chicago and it was up for grabs then. I was upset, that he could be stuck in Chicago and I am watching the storm as they constantly reported on the weather channel the updates.
I prayed several prayers and basically grovelled as my stress level rose. Time was short.
I received a phone call to say that he would be at the deistination airport by 4p. I was relieved and set forth to pick him up, Wouldn't know they only had 1 seat and they gave it to him!
The storm started and hour early before his arrival but the Lord sent him home to me 1st class. Yup that was the only seat left
Wow talk about trusting the Lord in *all* our ways

I had some anxiety last night about something I'd watched on TV. There was a program on the History channel about the Hadron Collider experiment that could potentially cause the world to end, according to some people. To make it worse, the local newspeople reported that they were starting this experiment at about 2 AM local time and that they would have an update on it in the early morning newscast, "if we were still here."

You can imagine how I was feeling right then. I became very anxious and began to pray that I would be ready to meet God when the time came. He directed me to His Word in Matthew 6:34 NIV, where He reminded me to "Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." This gave me great comfort and I slept soundly.

We known that fear is of the flesh, yea, can we really live through and lay everything on the steps of the father with all our hearts, i believe that Jesus teaches that these are not options, but what living through the spirit is revealing trust in him, because we can't cut and paste what we want to believe but except what we are taught. Through the help of the Holy Spirit we learn that Faith rises up above sense and reason and that is the hope of the glory reveal in our life, yes. We are all in the same boat when it comes to loved ones, but Jesus states that we seek the kingdom first, not an option, it is a course and direction for everything else, all darkness will evaporate in the light of life. I don't know what, but Jesus does.

Very true, growingseed. And it's back to what I said in my original post. Apart from Christ we all operate out of fear. As we know Him more and more, that fear is replaced by love. . . Perfect love casts out fear and we begin to live loved. A lovely place to be and He's doing it in me. Hallelujah!

Sometimes God forces us to take the steps we need to overcome our fears. He wants to move us to higher ground... and He can't do that if we're kicking and screaming on the floor.

I remember when we were taking the job in Oregon. We drove from So Cal to Oakland, CA because I was afraid of flying... deathly afraid.
On the drive, I thanked my husband for driving... since I knew he would have rather flown. He told me it was ok... but if we needed to visit Oregon, we were flying. In a smart-alec-y way, I said "OK honey"... thinking we wouldn't need to go to Oregon right then.

Guess what. The owners of the company asked us to fly out of Oakland with them on their private jet 2 days later. In the mean-time, they put us up in a very nice hotel and as we waited I was petrified! The morning of the flight David Wilkerson was on a morning show talking about his fear of flying and how he dealt with it. This was significant because the job we were going to Oregon to do was to open a faith based Drug and Alcohol facility... and as you may know, David Wilkerson founded Teen Challenge.

Oh boy... getting on that plane and taxi-ing down the runway will forever be permanant in my brain. However... by the grace of God, I overcame and the following summer we flew in that jet for several days visiting centers all over mid-America!

1 Peter 13:14-15a

"Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened." But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.

Isaiah 44:8
Do not tremble, do not be afraid. Did I not proclaim this and foretell it long ago? You are my witnesses. Is there any God besides me? No, there is no other Rock; I know not one."

Jeremiah 1:8
Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you," declares the LORD.

Matthew 10:28
Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Acts 18:9
One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: "Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent.

Revelation 2:10
Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.

Fearful...until I remember whom I belong.

Just the other day, I was sharing...(more like arguing) with my husband my disdain for an particular cartoon he watched together with our 6 year old daughter. The cartoon portrayed the parents to be ignorant, and neglectful of their son, the protagonist of this cartoon.

The bottom line of why I had such disdain for it was because of my fear that regardless of what we biblical standards we instill into our children, they are going to end up listening to the world and fall victim to its traps, and I as a parent felt powerless to protect them from it all. I was bawling at this point. Even now, I am so fearful for them and the kinds of the things the world will try to teach them. I know that I need to trust in the Lord. I am so fearful of the the awful awful pain that I might experience when I hear any of my kids tell me that they do not believe the Bible because of what school and society is teaching them. I know that to overcome this fear, I must give it to the Lord, and I must ask Him to give me His wisdom, and to equip me with His knowledge and His truth.
