I am feeling kind of alone today. All of the kid are in school, it is cold and kind of dreary outside so I am here with a hot cup of tea feeling lazy and sad that all of my babies are now in school.

Sean and Jake had an interesting night last night though. We were trying to call his grandpa in China and kept getting wrong numbers. We both double checked to make sure we dialed right and I don't know what kept happening, but we ended up talking to three different people before we got his grandpa. By then, Jake was just teasing us and then he went after Jake and they were running around the house for like half an hour. That was the first time Jake has really opened up to him and treated him like a friend or brother so I am feeling ok. And get this. Jake and his dad are going Charter fishing next week, and they are going to take Sean with them. I hope the day goes well but Sean is still trying to figure out this divorce thing and has alot of questions. He just doesn't get that people can get "un-married" So we told him to just not ask too many questions and have a good day. But we will see. It all depends on what my ex husband's wife has to say or not say. Hopefully she will have a little tact and not talk to him the way she talks to Jake. But I am glad Jake wanted him to go because not only will he get to do something I would NEVER do, but it will give the two of them a day together.

Anyway, I think that I am going to poke around here a bit, finish my tea and take a nap. I just feel sooooo tired today.

Kath - No it's not thrush. We've dealt with that before and that is NO fun!

We have had a flu bug going around school lately tho so I'm sure that's part of it. Brian is sick today too. He's been sick since yesterday. His fever comes and goes. He's finally feeling a bit better, but took 4 hours off today and won't be going in until 6PM.

I have discovered today tho that we desperately need new paint brushes! Zoe wanted to paint but ended up using q-tips and cotton balls to paint with because we couldn't find any paint brushes. Where do those things disappear to?

Blessings,

Garsy

I'm glad. I had to deal with it once too. it's nasty.

I have no idea where those paint brushes go, but we have that same thief visit us all the time.

There is another thing that kids get where they get like blister type things in their mouths. It is like hand foot and mouth, but only in their mouths. All of my kids had it when they were little. But I can't remember what it was called.

This has NOT been a good few days. I told you all earlier about Ty's friend that passed in January. Well yesterday I found out that an acquaintance of mine through the online scrapbooking community was killed when someone ran a red light and t-boned her car. Then the kids come home from school today and told me that the art teacher's daughter lost her fight with cancer last night. I guess it was a really rough day at school and to top it off third, fourth and fifth graders were taking parts of our states state testing. Then in talking with a friend on the phone I learned that a family in her neighborhood lost a newborn baby this past week too.

It's been a tough few days around here.

Thankfully Zoe's feeling better and Brian's fever is gone so he went off to work a few moments ago.

Blessings,

Garsy

Garsy...sorry for all of the sadness.

I've heard from my sister and she has learned (from friends who did not evacuate) that her home survived the hurricane.

While watching the hurricane news we also watched news concerning the train accident in California. We found out later that the brother of one of our church members died in the accident. He and his family were traveling home from the funeral of his mother (also one of our members). He was a believer.

Garcy and Julia, so sorry about all that has happened. Things sometimes just aren't what we would like them to be. That all sounds horrible and I am sorry.

Loss is even tougher when it seems to pile up. You can't mourn one loss without thinking about them all. I hope you know I'm doing what I can for you and those you hold dear.

I'm finally home after spending ALL day at school. I went in to get the literacy stuff organized and ended up staying all afternoon to help the music teacher and the substitute Art teacher with a BIG project. I ended up cutting out 425+ shapes with our schools die cutting machine one different shape per class per grade level. Then I organized all of it by teacher and grade and got them back to the art teachers, for the kids to decorate during art classes this week. Then I'm going in either Thursday or Friday to put it all together and then figure out how on earth I'm going to display ALL the cards that are rolling in for the art teacher and her family. Pretty much every child in the third fourth and fifth grades have made the art teacher and her family a card. PLUS there are cards coming in from former students, families, colleagues from other schools, former dance students of Courtney's I think I'm going to do some sort of tagboard scrapbook, that could be displayed at the funeral home on Friday and then the next day at the luncheon after the funeral.

Zoe went to school today, but she was pretty iffy all day. She was pretty pale and just not herself all day. Her teacher said she could tell that she wasn't up to par because she didn't once smile and you typically can't wipe the smile off her face. She now has this deep cough coming right straight from her lungs. I might take her to the doctor tomorrow just to make sure it's not turning to pneumonia. I had the nurse at school take her temp and that was normal tho.

Brian is working over 2 to 4 hours tonight. Not sure yet how long, as they are mandating overtime lately and he missed 4 hours yesterday due to being sick.

Blessings,

Garsy

Oh, I hated PT. They give you homework. I can understand why you would sleep so much. I need to do that but I am just having girl type issues and just want some peace and quiet.

Garcy, I can't believe you aren't slowing down after all that is going on.

I do pray for all of you guys every night.

Thank you Tracy! I pray for different members at different times, mostly while I'm reading one of their posts.

I didn't get any homework, everything he does requires ankle weights or the PT guy himself. I go three times a week though.

Garsy, you really sounded busy! I hope Zoe is ok. Linz finally got the pneumonia shot and she's been fine the last few years.

Can I vent?

I work with people who just don't think.

There is a girl...a few years ago she came in late because of debris on the road. We were comparing notes and I said that I stopped 3 times to remove things from the road - she explaining that she NEVER does that, she just drives over or around it and figures someone else will get it. I said I pull off safely, flip on the 4-ways and pull it but she argued that was dangerous and someone elses job. Fine. I disagree, but at least she had a plan. Her plan was let someone else do the work, but I'll get it so maybe she is right...

Fast forward to today. Power is out everywhere. She was bellyaching about it for quite a while - mine came back this morning so I was able to wash up without boiling water and came in and she was saying about how she had to do her hair at work. She was going on about how rough it was without lights and I found out she has GAS to cook and heat her town water. She showered this morning! She was talking about how there was NOTHING to do last night, she couldn't quilt or listen to the radio (they are called BATTERIES) or call anyone because cell was out. And, she was hot and she couldn't leave the window open because they were driving up and down the street with a bullhorn. I'm asked what they were doing, because I was thinking KIDS and she said they were telling them to conserve water. She said they couldn't call or go to peoples doors, but had to interrupt the quiet.

So, my real rant, starts with - Why did she shower this morning if they told her to conserve water last night???

Guess what. Some towns are running out of water because they don't have power to process the water. At least she has lights and can quilt.

And, there are so many problems that are worse that a lack of power. I know that. And, much worse than me getting annoyed by her. She just sounded so selfish talking about how she wasn't going to skip a shower before work and couldn't be expected to have batteries just sitting around just in case and didn't know what she would do if she lived somewhere that it happened all the time or was Amish. Like that was the same thing anyhow...

Folks. Propane and a stove, water, batteries, matches and a radio. A pan. You can boil water, make coffee, set an open can in the boiling water to heat the contents and eat and then wash yourself and the spoon with the water. And still go to work.

Ok - I feel better now.

Um, because she is selfish?

As I was reading your post I just got more and more amazed.

We always have batteries on hand. I buy those big packages at Sams.
We have radio that if it runs out of batteries we can wind it up.

And how childish of her, she can cook if she has gas.

Thanks Kath - Poppa keeps telling me to LET IT GO!

I knew the storm was coming - and I'm kicking myself because I didn't buy ice or start the laundry sooner. Or catch water. That is my big, personal, failing this time. But we are getting squared away for winter.

Our county was declared a state of emergency by the county commissioners. Which, cares almost as much weight as me saying it... :) But, it allows the Red Cross to set up meals, water, and power. Folks on oxygen or other equipment can come and get there batteries charged and just have some company.

Just wind damage.

We have an elementary school closed for the week. College classes were cancelled yesterday. Little things. Grocery stores that had to pitch their dairy/meat/freezer. Strange. After seeing the damage in a yard or on a road, I can start to picture it everywhere and WOW God is powerful

That is my house and our land. The picture was taken in the 50s. We have 8 acres surrounding the house. We own 21 total.

The house of course is smack in the middle of the picture. Past the tree line at the bottom sort of right corner is where the farm land starts. The two buildings at the top right of the screen were burned down when Larry had his fire a few years back, I guess it's been 10 years now. The barn he burned down is not in the picture though.

The little building in the upper left corner is the ice house! It has been used as a dump for whatever so someday it will have to be cleaned out. We have never dumped in it but his parents did. They never had trash removal so cans and such are in there.

The building to the center right, sort of cut off, with the bright white roof is the building we use to keep the horses in during the winter. The chicken coop is to the right of all the trees and the house.

Thanks for asking! I love my house and all the land.

I can't slow down - it's simply not in my nature. or so I'm told. No, the stuff I'm doing at school now with the cards and scrapbook and such is all because I just love our art teacher so much. I'm SO close to this woman that it's hard for me to even think of her hurting so much. I admire her for her strength, courage, talent, spirit, and ability to bring out all those in others! Anything I can do to let her know how loved she is not work to me, just a labor of love!

Zoe's actually getting worse. She now has broken out in hives. I think that might be a reaction to the strawberry yogurt she ate tonight for supper. My grandmothers were both allergic to strawberries when they were alive, and my one grandma was deathly allergic. I gave her some benedryl so we'll see if that helps. I know she's going to be home again tomorrow, as she is just not herself yet. I'm going to call the doctor in the morning again and see if we can get her in. I'm seriously concerned about the cold in her chest. We can't let it get any worse. Say a prayer for her tonight that she manages to sleep well.

Blessings,

Garsy
