Oh no!!! I hate migraines they're the worst!! Just ruins your whole day, huh?

It's another beautiful day here....I can smell Fall in the air! OH my....Christmas is right around the corner!!

I'm having a good day so far....I have to study though. I took a Real Estate course and I have to pass my General Exam before moving on to the State Exam. I think I'm too old for this! I've been out of work since February and thought I would try to do something interesting in my life. I hope this is it. Oh, I know you're all saying that the market is bad but hey....things will change and besides people always need to have a place to live, right?!

Tomorrow I'm going to see my Mama and my beautiful son (who will be 22 soon), not a baby anymore . Anyway, they both live about 1hour away from me so I look forward to every opportunity I have to spend time with them. My Mama hasn't seen my son in many months and she going with me..yay!!

I hope you have a great time, Vocal.

I'm so tired as I had such a bad night's sleep last night, but the rheumatologist told me not to sleep during the day.

I've got an appointment with the gym this afternoon.

Hi, ladies.

It's the weekend here and I'm off all next week for the end of Ramadan and then Eid. I get to sleep in for a week before setting my alarm for 5 a.m. Ugh! But at least class periods will be long enough to get things done.

Have a nice day, ladies.

Hi there.

I don't know how you tolerate the sounds that come from the mosques etc. Just from the sounds of their prayers etc on the TV that I hear, I can't handle it. To hear it in actuality, to me, would be worse.

I hope everybody is having a good day so far.

Hi ladies-

I haven't had much time to come online. We've had some computer problems. The problem is with our provider. When net is up, either someone needs to do homework, or I have to take care of Avon orders.

I'm slowly healing. Still a little sore, but not bad at all.

As some of you know, my dad has had prostate cancer. He is finished with his treatments and so far his doctors say that it looks like things are going to be OK. Monday was his birthday. We went over to his house. It was nice to just visit with him and my step mom and not talk about cancer or medical procedures. With his radiation he was always tired and cranky. That made my step mom tired and cranky too. I completely understand why they were feeling that way. It was nice to get to just visit. I forgot how much fun they really can be.

Trish- It's not so bad. It depends upon how close you are to them and how loud their speakers are. Also, the voice of the imam. I was at a workshop last year and the guy from the mosque nearby was hard of hearing. Ouch! Our old apartment was next to a small one with a Napolean complex. We'd sleep with the windows open but my body got to where I'd wake up around 3:30 or so to shut the window so it wouldn't wake up the twins if they were sleeping with us (which was frequently). The one we're in now is pretty good. I've only heard a mosque once, I think, and barely. I don't think we'd be bothered by any here. There's one I hear from my classroom. If I'm alone in the room I just turn up my music (usually church music or opera) or Issues, Etc. (Christian talk radio).

What's really bad is if you're out and about and between 2 mosques with the imams calling people to prayer at the same time but they're not singing together. Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay!

OK, I've been thinking all week about how finances are getting bad and how I have nothing to do and am getting bored.

Well, I got a phone call a few minutes ago from a young man whom I met on the bus the other day. I had given him my Avon card because he was looking for volunteers for a youth ministry. He just called me about a job opening for a person to work in a secretarial position assisting others in the area who work with the youth. Even if I don't get the job, there are areas that I could volunteer in that may or may not lead to employment! I have to call the lady setting up the interviews tomorrow morning.

I'm excited!!

Have had a pretty quiet day today. Had some errands to run. I've been sleeping more during the day a lot lately. I don't know why. I know the rheumatologist won't be happy though.

I've got things to do, but either can't seem to stay awake to get them done, or can't concentrate to do them.

Roberta, that is great that you gave him your card. I always give people my business card when they ask for my number because that way, they see L'Bri and my name together. I have gotten customers that way many times.

I haven't been around much.... school has found a way to kick me in the rear enough to keep me busy.

I just had a question...well, odd story I guess. Yesterday a friend and I went to Starbucks to just chat and catch up. She was gone all summer; she's Korean and went back home for a few months. Anyway, she's pre-pharmacy, and I'm a fifth-year senior biology major; pre-pharms up taking a few of the same classes that bio. majors take, so we ended up taking some organic chemistry together. (That's how we know each other.) The chemistry department here is male-dominated, but in '06 they hired a new, black female professor. She's the only full-time female, and the other female is only there maybe three hrs/wk for one day. I had been there since '04 and remember when she first started there. I took a class from her a little while after she started, then she was my organic I lab instructor last semester. I REALLY didn't want to take her for lab, but it was a time conflict thing. I had to take her. But, the reason I didn't want to is that her personality is such that it clashes with mine, AND (the bigger part) she'll make you feel dumb for asking a question. Then, she'll repeat it to another class (not using your name) to say how dumb it was. But she doesn't call it dumb... For example, one student apparently asked her once how to weigh water-- since water is a liquid and it has to be put on a flat scale. We all knew how to weigh water, but if a new student doesn't know that a scale can be zeroed out/calibrated.... then they probably would have to ask how to do it when they first start off in a lab. She told us the story, but the point of the story was how crazy it is to not know how to weigh water. Then, when I was in that first class.... I saw people ask things and she'd act like the person was mentally handicapped for not getting it the first time.

I don't think she knows how she comes off to people, but in a way I feel badly because I know the other chem. faculty don't seem to like her that much...and the students don't want to feel stupid so they don't ask her a lot of things. The girl I mentioned above (who I met in organic and went to Starbucks with) said she just went to tell this professor hello earlier that day, and the professor told her she was lonely and that the other faculty don't like her. My friend thinks it's cause she's a woman (and the rest are men), but this professor is an organic professor, and the other prominent organic professor doesn't like her (I talk to him all the time), but it seems like it's for the same reason no one else is drawn to her. He doesn't want to get chewed up and spit out for no good reason. I remember once I had to go on there for something.... and there was another girl waiting who came after me. I had to see both organic professors-- her AND the other professor that I talk to all the time. I decided to let the other girl go first, and I went in the other professor's office because she always gets the first person she sees the worst. I figured if I went last, she'd only partially eat me alive rather than all the way. Of couse, when I got up to go into her office, the prof. I was with sarcastically told me to have fun in there.... as I was about to have a panic attack from fear.

Anyway, she's really talkative, but caustic. I try to limit communication to hi/bye... I honestly don't think she has in her head "let's see how mean I can be today" or "let's see how dumb I can make students feel," but that's just the way it comes out. I know her personality is the opposite of a lot of the faculty, so that might be part of the reason why they don't interact with her. I know I see her at lunch alone (I don't eat lunch, but I have to walk through there sometimes). I guess I feel badly for wanting to avoid her, especially since I know pretty much everyone else I know avoids her as well...including some faculty. I think she feels the fact that a lot of people don't want to be around her. They hired another new chem. professor JUST this semester, and I don't think anyone really knew him previously. I saw the new prof., my current prof. (the one I mentioned above that I talk to a lot), and another older professor all going out to lunch together. I'm not saying they should take her too, but what I never see is any of them every talk to her. I was there when she started there, and in all this time, I've only seen her and another professor talking two times. One time was because another professor needed her to fix an instrument.

Not the kind of person I generally like. But I'm also the type of person who prefers to try to build a relationship with her outside of class, try to get to know her as a person to try to understand her. Is she really just mean or is it maybe her "professional" demeanor? But that's just me. It also helps me to see if they really just don't care for me or if it just appears that way when I ask a question. KWIM?

Enjoying our relaxing day around the house. H is practicing cutting. That poor paper. M is playing in his room. E has a headache and is going to take a nap in his room. (I'm thinking he might be starting to take after me, but I never had them that young...I don't think. But he's also good at crying headache or other pain when he's told to do something he doesn't want to.)

Hi everybody. How are you all doing?

Still quiet around here. I've written a penpal letter back to a new penpal. Did some pruning in the back yard. Spent some time with my dog. Slept more of the day away than I'm meant to. Gonna try and change the timing of one of my meds to see if that makes any difference. Got some other things to do to work towards Christmas, (writing out recipe cards to give away as a Christmas gift), but haven't got started on that yet. Will have to start soon as the box of recipe cards are going overseas. My penpal has no idea, so it's going to be fun!

What are you all up to this weekend?

Even outside of class, she seems to just generally be that way. But, since she's not my professor now, I'm not forced to see her for anything academic anyway...so the stupid factor is gone for me. Even when I see her around I get the "I'm about to vomit" feeling because she still scares me. She still scares everyone I know...

SOLO: Sometimes when we are faced with adversity and fear that is our opportunity to come face to face with it and overcome. Now that you don't have to 'deal' with her this could be a good time just to strike up small talk with confidence and a smile. Who knows what her private life may have brought her and she too puts on the fighting armour to face the world but inside is really needing someone to find a way in? At the least it deserves prayer from you to see if God will open the door and prepare her heart.

Is everyone getting ready for Fall Harvest / Halloween? I miss the trick or treat days My son is way too old for that anymore but I remember the days and how fun it was. Truthfully I miss going through his candy!! I don't decorate as I live in the boonies and in the 14 yrs we been there we've never had 1 trick or treater to stop by so I figure - what's the use?

Paper cutting update: Apparently after I told M he could cut some paper he decided to branch out into hair. He decided he wanted H's hair small. {sigh} So I made a quick run to the salon with her. They were crowded but we hit it right and didn't have to wait. Kids getting haircuts for Eid. Her bangs are incredibly short but the rest of it is fine. I'm just going to brush the bangs over to the side so it looks more intentional til they grow out. LOL

Just a lazy day around here watching movies. After a while I'll hide in my room and listen to Issues, Etc.

Have a nice day, ladies.

Halloween isn't a big thing here. We've had one or two people come to the door over the years, but other than that, nothing.

In Kuwait they have Guirguian. Beats Halloween by a long shot. It's a Kuwaiti holiday so Muslims outside of Kuwait don't celebrate it. It falls in the middle of Ramadan (it celebrates the birthday of one of Mohammad's grandsons). Kids dress up in traditional clothes and share candy. It's a lot more fun and safer than traveling from house to house. No scary costumes. Our kids just participate in the fun. The twins just think of it as a lot of fun...E knows what it is now after being clueless about anything but the clothes and the candy for the first 2 years. LOL

Being a teacher is great because I come home with tons of candy and cute little containers that I use on my desk at school.

Another day of relaxing. All this relaxing is starting to get a bit boring. I'm going to hope that DH finishes his project at work in time for us to do some stuff together before our break is over.

Have a nice day, ladies.

Had our friendship group here this afternoon. We had a good time.

Also managed to get some of the recipes done for the Christmas present that I'm putting together for one of my penpals. Still a long way from finished, but at least it's started.

Got a busy day tomorrow. Gym in the morning, out for lunch, then some shopping in the afternoon.

I had a "halloween"/"fall harvest" for Grown Ups!! My sister and I went to the Mast General Store a couple of days ago and we filled our baskets up with all the candy we love! YUM...YUM! If you're not familiar with a Mast General Store it's a wonderful place to go for all sorts of things...clothes, shoes, jewelry, just a hodge podge of just about anything you can think of. The great thing is the candy barrels, like the old timey stores used to have and most of the candy is the hard to find things we used to love when I was a child in the 60's and 70's!

Solo, I can see why you have a hard time. My problem is that when I see people like that, I try to be their friend, teacher or not. But then you worry if people are going to think you are getting treated better because of that. But I do think that it is kind of mean that the others go out together and don't invite her. I mean, it would be different if it were just a couple and some others were left out, but if all of them go out then it would only be polite to ask her. Plus, you never know what you are going to find when you do that. Some people are just so hungry for that friendship that once it is extended to them, they just seem to melt.

Hi to everyone else!!

I have been so busy and tired and sick (allergies I think) lately that I have just been in bed as much as possible. I can't wait til the seasons change and there is no more mold and whatever else in the air.
