Does anyone know if Robert Plant is a Christian? I get concerned about people and their faith easily.
If anyone knows or has anything on that subject i would love to know your info. And if you can help it, don't tell me that it was a rumor I wanna know facts, trivia, anything you know about his personal life etc. I think yall know what I mean.

I very highly doubt that he is a Christian. He has dabbled in Zen in the past and Spiritualism too. I heard that he made a pact with the devil back in the day also.

I understand what you mean. BUt I think that was Jimmy Page because he did all the weird questionable stuff. When I went to The Raising Sand concert in Atlanta, he said he was really into gospel songs. They sang four and he seemed like he was really into it. he was also smiling like a cheshire cat. you couldn't have taken that smile off his face. He never talked about himself, and he was always so humble and he blushed when krauss said how wonderful he was. I'm just saying what I saw. He also wrote a song called 29 Psalms, I believe, and many other spiritual songs. Just because someone does something with Zen doesn't mean they're not a Christian, it means they want to just have an even more peacful life and get in tune to what God made and enjoy it so they can talk to God that way too.

I also said that I didn't want anyone to use rumors because 95% of the time they're not true, it's like gossip. Nopt saying that you are gossiping just stating the facts.

These are interesting observations. I would have to say though that just as someone might still be a Christian if they do something with Zen (although I don't know enough about Zen to say), the fact that a musician is into Gospel songs, and writes spiritual or Christian related songs certainly doesn't mean they're a Christian. But I understand that this is a basis for your original question.

I do know that Robert Plant, like many British musicians who evolved from his time period were/are into the Blues. And Black Gospel and the Blues are very closely linked as of course the Blues came from Black Gospel. Many of the Folk-Blues, including the likes of Leadbelly, that were not directly labeled as Black Gospel, included many spiritual/Gospel related songs. Led Zeppelin, like many of the hard rock bands that evolved from the British Blues Rock invasion, utilized many of the old Blues standards that used sexual innuendo that in many ways drowned out the spiritual/Gospel elements of Folk-Blues. The fact that Mr. Plant sings Gospel songs may be a good indication that he listens to a lot of the older Folk-Blues, that is unfortunately overlooked in the U.S.

In my opinion, Mr. Plant takes interest in spiritual/cultural related types of music. And of course this would be why he incorporates the Eastern Indian or Hindi sound into his music as well. I think that Black Gospel does have a certain in-road that CCM or even Southern Gospel may not have with high profile musicians who are able to step beyond the music industry to create and produce according to their personal tastes and interest. He may very well be on the verge of becoming a Christian at some point.

That is some good info on those pages you posted. The one "I sold my soul to Rock n roll" kind of stated to me at the bottom when Bonham died Plant was obviously not into satanism. There are people possessed by Satan, and I think Jimmy Page was one of them. Too bad he didn't credit God for his amazing guitar playing. I don't think Plant is of the occult. he may have gotten saved years ago and then again he could be on the verge of him. I just hope to see him in Heaven. I still look up to Plant. I know he made a HUGE change in his life after his son died. That's why he wrote "All My Love". I love that song. and "I Believe" was for his son too. He was a very loving father though I know. Now, if you see him today, he is smiling in all of his pictures and tv things. There is some thing about him that you do not find in other Rock singers. He's like George Foreman hhe went thru a Huge change. I don't know if he is saved like Foreman tho. Plant is like Foreman in many ways, you have to love him, No one hates him, he's always smiling. Plant is very humble.I noticed that. He was serious when he sang his gospel tho,. he acted like he ment it with all his heart and he was singing it to God. If you go to youtube and you look at videos from him in the seventies and videos of him recently, You would see a change. he was full of himself in the seventies and never smiled. now he is very humble and caring. I still continue to ask for answers from people. I want to really still know. Please keep posting on this thread. I really want to see what yall have to say. And I don't want anyone saying he's a terrible person and badmouthing him because that is not very nice. The Lord says not to judge. Keep in mind that not everyone is perfect. He's just evidence that no matter how rebellious, bad, crazy and whatever you are, you can turn put to be one of the most humble loving people in the world. Please still keep posting yall. And if you have sources post those too.

I remember when the local radio station here played All of My Love back in the late 70's. I liked it a lot!

Back in the 80's I had the 45 for Big Log, then he had the Honeydrippers album that he did. Tall Cool One in the late 80's.

He was in Boston once and a friend said women were hanging all over him, I guess that shaded my opinion of him.

I do find it interesting that he is recording with Allison Krauss these days also.

I have no reason to believe he is a Christian, despite the fact that he's been hanging with Christian folks these days (Alison Krauss, Buddy Miller, T-Bone Burnett - which can't be a bad thing), and despite the fact that he's been singing gospel songs as part of the "Raising Sand" tour.

I read this comment on the net: "Robert said in an interview recently that he's not a Christian, and he's said a couple of times that he sings the gospel songs on the tour to honor the songs and the long history of traditional gospel music in America."

I believe he is into Eastern religions, if anything. Throw in a little Aleister Crowley, courtesy of Jimmy Page back in the day....and just about everything spiritual under the sun, save for Christianity. Or so they say. God alone knows the man's heart. He seems to have mellowed quite a bit, and I usually enjoy his interviews. An intelligent and witty guy, at the very least.

By the way, the song is "29 Palms", not "29 Psalms"....

I admire the talent of Mr. Plant (as I own his solo albums as well as his Zeppelin work)...but I do not share his worldview. My hope and prayer is that the Holy Spirit draws him to himself...who knows, maybe God is speaking to him through some of those old gospel songs or through T-Bone, Alison etc.?

Very eclectic. Not afraid to try new things.

I agree with that sentiment. I saw him live on his first two solo tours. Great shows! But as far as being a Christian, until he does a public witness to the fact, I'd tend to doubt it but ultimately that is between God and him.

At least he had his act more together than Jimmie Page who I saw with "The Firm" and who was so snockered that he couldn't play his guitar very well. [:'(]

Where exactly is this "comment" on the net. He may be refering to his music. Of course we don't know his heart only God does. I just notice that there is a huge difference in his smile. I still look up to him. I have a reason to believe he is a Christian. I've done a lot of research on him, he had quite a few hard knocks. When his son died, he realized that there is a greater power that took his son to be with him. He knew that he had all the money in the world but it didn't matter. He couldn't buy that little boy's life basck. If he's willing to honor the music of America, then he must feel something out of it. I remember him saying on a youtube video he was being interviewed, and he said one of the biggest influences on his life was SIster Rosetta Tharpe. The Gospel Singer. These may not be good enough reasons for you but they are for me. All I can do and all we all can do is pray for him whether he is or isn't a Christian, I still continue to ask for Info on this question of mine. I would like facts rather than oppinion and rumors. It's hard to come up with the facts, unless we hear it from someone he knows personally, or from the man himself.

I agree in that all we can do is pray for the man since none of us know him personally....if he's saved, great, let's pray that he grows in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ and becomes a bold witness for Him ..if not, pray that hte holy Spirit draws him to Himself.

I'm really enjoying his pairing with Alison Krauss, by the way. I'm a fan of both artists, and they blend very well together.

I tried to go see them at Ravinia this year, but it was sold out.

I've seen some great clips on you tube....they do a lot of re-worked and re-imagined Zeppelin tunes, as well as the tunes from the album. Bluegrass and gospel.... it's all great.

I hope they put out another album together.

They are thinking about putting out a gospel album which will be fantastic. Bluegrass, Country, Gospel, Rock, and Southern Rock are my absolute faves. Maybe Plant will get saved or something during the making of the gospel album. All the Raising Sand concerts are sold out this month and I think nest too. You either have to have season tickets to see them or have to order like three months in advance. WE were at Chastain amphitheatre in fourth row seats. They threw out a ball and let the crowd bounce it around. Krauss and Plant can throw and catch very well if i do say so myself. I waved at Plant and he saw me and waved back. I'll never forget that one. They sang gospe, bluegrass, Zepp, Krauss, R.S. songs, Plant solo songs, and some Josh Turner and every one else just about it in the rock and country artist genres. Thanks for the info i still ask for more though. Lets keep him in our prayers still. Not jsut him but all of the lost stars. I would also like you to read my comment I left on that sit, that was and eyeopener for me. I just feel that God is laying it on my heart to pray for him. I'm listening. I've prayed for him for the past few nights. I'm glad to know that Alison krauss is a Christian. I think that it was all a part of God's will for them to be together so that maybe, he will come to the understanding of being saved andthat he wil. please red the comment I left, Lemon, on that site you have posted about the Robert Plant singing gospel. and tell me your insites on it.

I read your comment, firecracker, and I must say I love where your heart is at. It's easy to rip on secular artists about their lifestyles and music, but in the end, they are just people....sinners like you and I in need of a Savior.

Instead of ripping Robert Plant and saying how he was into the occult, wild living etc. etc.....maybe we should take a moment and pray for folks like him. God may indeed be drawing him to himself. I don't think he would be hanging around the likes of Alison Krauss and T-Bone Burnett back in the '70s. Even if he's only in it because he enjoys the music, he's been in good company. Who knows what kind of conversations they have offstage?

Well my visually impaired source of Vitamin C, I prefer to be self-righteous and say that any artist that doesn't measure up JPM wise is a heathen sinner going to hell!!!! I like Fate of Nations and Pictures at 11. Tall Cool One is good too. I love music from back in my mom and dad's day. I've been raised with it. Here n North GEorgia that's what everyone loves. WE refer to those days as, The DAys when Rock was REal. I prefer y'alls generations music over mine. To me, Any of Robert Plant's music is good. To me, and my dad, he has one of the best male voices in rock and just music history. I do like some of the current music though. Josh Turner, Brad Paisley, Big and Rich, Carrie Underwood, are my favorite newer ones. I love Clint Black and Alan Jackson and Geoprge Strait. Anyone from the urban cowboy age. Even before that like Waylon jennings, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Reba, Johnny Cash, etc. A majority of the Country artists are Christians. I've been blessed with a wonderful family, my whole mom and dad's side are saved, except for my younger cousins and my little brother. I go to a Christian school, and have been fully and thoroughly blessed. I still ask for info if you have any. I hope God Blesses you and your family as he has blessed ours.

Yes, the only one that is supposed to judge is God on judgment day. There is no such thing as being too biblical. Should we be praying for you? you are wrong about music artists going to hell. That is so wrong. Con't say they're all heathens going to hell because we don't want anyone going to hell. Don't be so prejudiced. Dolly Parton is one of the most godly women in the world. She was saved when she was 9 years old. Music artists, especially country and bluegrass are Christians. If you actually read the Bible you would realize that you are supposed to live by not judging. Not all artists are heathens because they sang "secular" music. When a person sings a song that we call inappropriate and it makes us uncomfortable. They are holding up a mirror basically, making us feel uncomfortable so we understand we need to make a change. To realize we need to fix our mistakes, like cheting on your partener.

Plant and Krauss are touring in support of their successful album from last year, Raising Sand—a project produced by T Bone Burnett, who is in the band for the tour. “Down to the River to Pray” wasn't the only gospel song of the evening. Those in attendance also heard “Green Pastures” and “You Don't Knock,” the latter introduced by Plant with a reference to the spectacular rock formations surrounding the venue as well as to Stonehenge, because Saturday was the summer solstice. He acknowledged the religious nature of the tune but assured audience members they didn't have to be of any particular religion to enjoy it. So does all this gospel music mean Plant has found Jesus? More likely it means simply that he's found another musical genre to play around with.

That's kind of what I was thinking....he's comfortable singing gospel, but may not yet be a Christian. Still might be into "new age" type of spirituality, but I don't know for sure. Just my gut feeling for now.

My prayer is that God uses the witness of those Christian artists around him or whatever means He sees fit to bless Mr. Plant with saving faith in Jesus.

And Christian or not, he sings those old gospel songs in a heartfelt way. I am impressed with his versatility, and he seems to be enjoying himself.

I totally agree. Jesus preached good living but not as a ticket to be self-righteous or Pharisitical. And that's what some people will do to the Robert Plants and Marilyn Mansons of the world and write them off as eternally damned. Now I'm not going to support the Marilyns or H.I.M. or Lamb of God's with my $$$ but I'm no one to be sending them to H-E-double toothpicks (as my mom would have called it). When I stop believing that God can save anyone then IMO I would stop believing in an all-powerful and merciful God!

They sang those songs and I felt God's presence there at Chastain Amphitheatre. People quieted down to listen and were nodding their heads. He may have found Jesus, and if not, maybe this is the Krauss- Burnett way of wittnessing to him. He may be getting something out of these songs. I'm still gonna pray for him. I can't look in his heart. He may be saved and then if not, hopefully he's on the verge of it. he did seem extremely into it when he sang those songs. He was clapping and practically dancing when they sang "You Don't Knock". Thanks for the review it helped put another piece together. Maybe after he starts really enjoying it, he'll come to realize what the lyrics mean and come to Jesus. Let's continue to pray for him, whether he is or isn't saved.

That is so wrong. Con't say they're all heathens going to hell because we don't want anyone going to hell. Don't be so prejudiced. Dolly Parton is one of the most godly women in the world. She was saved when she was 9 years old. Music artists, especially country and bluegrass are Christians. If you actually read the Bible you would realize that you are supposed to live by not judging. Not all artists are heathens because they sang "secular" music. When a person sings a song that we call inappropriate and it makes us uncomfortable. They are holding up a mirror basically, making us feel uncomfortable so we understand we need to make a change. To realize we need to fix our mistakes, like cheting on your partener.


Not to get off-topic, however one can indeed become too Biblical. When they love what the Bible (rules and regulations) over listening to what God is saying in your heart instead.


To borrow and change a Presidential political slogan from the 50's:

I totally agree. Jesus preached good living but not as a ticket to be self-righteous or Pharisitical. And that's what some people will do to the Robert Plants and Marilyn Mansons of the world and write them off as eternally damned. Now I'm not going to support the Marilyns or H.I.M. or Lamb of God's with my $$$ but I'm no one to be sending them to H-E-double toothpicks (as my mom would have called it). When I stop believing that God can save anyone then IMO I would stop believing in an all-powerful and merciful God!
