I will fear no evil and Broyce are guys too. So are driven by God, and mazarito, or whatever that name was.

ORIGINAL: Tinkerbell_ You know...I rather like Edmund from the Narnia series. He always reminded me of a premature, annoying brat. I will say one thing for fictional romance novels. They accurately depict the type a man a woman would fall in love with in reality.

In some ways you are right...some of the fellows we've talked about show great personal character as well as shallower qualities that add to their attractiveness. However, give me a real life, down-to-earth man of integrity any day. I know. I once had one. shallbe

ORIGINAL: CoeurdeLeon I've never read Danielle Steele but that was the first name that came to mind. I never heard of Lori Wick... Who was the big name in Harlequin romances at one time (or still is for all I know)? Barbara ????? I keep cringing when I think that's the type of thing Randy's referring to. Years ago I stayed with my grandparents for a week. (I was about 12 or 13) During the day when they were at work, and I had read all the Field and Stream and Sports Afield magazines in the house I picked up one of my grandma's Harlequin romance books. Being a very fast reader I ended up reading a couple dozen of them over the next few days (Boredom makes us do horrendously terrible things) As a result of that experience I've come to the understanding that I have read every single HR book ever written. Here's the plot: 1) Girl suffers some life changing tragedy or move. 2) Girl meets boy A. 3) Girl dislikes Boy A but finds him slightly attractive (in a scary sort of way). 4) Girl meets Boy B and they hit it off well. 5) Girl continues runnning into Boy A and he grows on her a little but stays scary. 6) Girl realizes that she doesn't really love boy B (even though they are engaged or something close) 7) some other tragedy or event happens and Boy A saves Girl. 8) Girl and Boy A get married and live happily (and lustfully) ever after. The characters and story are all the same, they just change the cover art and the names and places.

ORIGINAL: John_O Hey Guys, do you remember the lady characters in the books you read? as likely as i am to remember the male characters ... i don't know that i think about dating them though ... So how much do you remember the male characters? as much as i remember the female characters ... i don't really think about dating them either ... but i have a good memory and read (and listen to) a lot of books ... i really don't know if i remember more or less than the average person ...

ORIGINAL: CoeurdeLeon Could you clarify why you mean by "fictional romance novels", Randy? Non-specific, I just see a lot of qualities in these fictional characters that women (and men) would want in their "perfect" mate. For example, the gallantry, romanticism, allurement in the ever-so perfect lad that every dame swoons over.
