I wasn't that familiar with Gov. Palin until her name started swirling around the VP mix...but from what I've read about her in the last day or so, I am excited about this pick!

It's certainly a game changer, and Camp Obama's initial repsonse, to take a swipe at small town America, was priceless.

Palin re-energizes the scene at a time when The Messiah's empty rhetoric is growing old.....the next 67 days should be, at the least, entertaining.

Memo to Evangel70: No, I can't envision Palin as President at the moment, but then again, I can't picture Biden in the Oval Office either....give 'em both some time....

Did ya'll get some sort of leftist memo? Every forum board online has it's resident leftists parroting this line almost to a tee. Of course, up until this morning, no leftist in the country would even admit a experience issue existed for the One and his 140 day track record in Congress.

Exactly!

I can't believe how all the liberals are now talking about how inexperienced she is but all the while defended NObama's inexperience, saying the public doesn't care about that, they're concerned about issues.

CNN just said that both NObama and Palin are lacking in experience but somehow managed to spin it as though it is worse for Republicans.

Once commentator on CNN did compare Palin experience to the touted Community Organizer that NObama's campaign keeps harping on.
Palin brings several factors to the table here:
She has a son deploying for Iraq in just a few days
Her parents were teachers
Her and her husband were union members
She's a bible reading gun totin Conservative
She has fought against big oil
She has fought against big government and earmarks

Also CNN is reporting that they are hearing from several leaders in the Conservative movement that this is just what they wanted. More and more conservative are coming out in support of McCain/Palin.

Someone give NObama a tire guage because Palin just let the air out of his tires.

I think she's amazing (and I'm a SAHM). I think McCain made an excellent choice. Now I can be excited about the election again! Before it was a choice between horrible and bleah.

I agree. And I'm also a SAHM and think it is the ideal. And from what I have seen of the history of the White House, her kids will have better access to her than many children of full-time working mothers. It's not been unknown to have presidential children occupying the Oval Office on a regular basis.

Because via the Texas state constitution, the governor's office enjoys very limited powers versus governors in other states. It's really little more than a figurehead position (which is an argument we've had before).

But despite this, at least Bush was governor for more than one term before trying a leap for the national stage.

I'm not bashing Sarah Palin here.

It's just that the more I consider her as McCain's running mate, the more impractical it seems from a politically strategic POV.

Where were you people when we were considering the abilities of Arkansas and Georgian Governors, states not exactly known for their vast international and economic strengths?

Not to mention places where cousins are gazed on a little too affectionately?

Everyone remembers the picture of JFK with his children playing around his desk in the oval office.

Much more so than the Democratic Presidential nominee is ready to step into the role of President!

The level of experience that Biden has over Palin in national and international affairs is towering.

About the same amount as McCain has over Obama.

Not like it matters. Experience has virtually nothing to do with how "good" a President is. See this link for a historical analysis:

I only bring it up because MCCain has been hammering and hammering away on the issue of experience, and for months has been attempting to create a narrative that defines Obama as unready to lead, yet now his VP choice undermines all of that and he won't be able to pursue that talking point as easily.

Since wisdom would dictate that a presidential candidate should choose a V.P. he believes can step in should something happen to him, I wonder how many of the conservatives who are now swooning over Sarah believe she's ready to step into the role of President.

As prepared as Obama is, even more so as an executive. Except he is running for president now, and she is only running for VP.

I think it is a brilliant choice. I think the whole way they have handled this is brilliant. I mean, is anyone talking about Obama? And didn't they just have some big ta-do in Denver?

Peace

OK, I'm going to say it because I just have to get it out of my system:

Palin also might appeal to independents -she vetoed a bill that would have denied state benefits to same-sex couples; she has criticized the lack of planning in Iraq.

"And Palin has not always seen eye to eye with McCain. Her strong support for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge will contrast with McCain's muted opposition, and though she has no foreign policy experience, she has criticized the lack of a long-term plan for Iraq. She also surprised her state's conservatives by vetoing a bill that would have denied state benefits to same-sex couples. "

I give McCain kudos for his pick - it definitely mixes things up for the better!

Peace and God bless,

Yeah, amazing the difference a few hours can make.

Why just last night I heard a candidate say, "I get it. I realize that I am not the likeliest candidate for this office. I don't fit the typical pedigree, and I haven't spent my career in the halls of Washington."

That would seem more true of Palin than him.

Also, the Vice President doesn't do all that much. She'll of course preside over the Senate, which has got to be less of a job than a typical working mother has. When she's there, it sounds like she has a great husband to care for the child.

You do realize at this point it would have been virtually impossible for McCain to pick an older woman, that is with with Cleopatra having passed?

Actually, wisdom dictates that an Obama supporter would be more than silent on the issue of age and experience...

Now, cow...

Palin is anything but a trophy VP. Pretty, yes, but look at her hair! Trophys have every hair in place.....Besides, she walked ahead of her husband not one step behind

But if he had picked a man nobody would've cared that he was younger.

"Sarah Barracuda" (her nickname as a high school basketball player) also won a local beauty contest and was in the Miss Alaska pageant.

I don't think so, because I don't agree with the inference that she is political, rather than substantial.

I can't pretend to know her well, but she seems rather genuine to me, especially genuine in her desire for political reform.

Cow, suspect could kick both our rears in shooting, fishing, and on the court, so the fact that she also happens to be smart and attractive is hardly something that denigrates her.

And so the Obama campaign starts in:

"Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency," Obama spokesman Bill Burton said in a statement."

...completely oblivious apparently to the fact that he wants to put someone in the Presidency with zero foreign policy experience...

The "investigation" is a non-issue and wont have legs. This is a brilliant political move. And, I have to confess - although I know it to be a purely political move, and I saw it coming and wasn't surprised at all by the announcement, I'm surprised at myself today. Hearing her speak this afternoon, I'm quite moved. This is downright exciting! On some level, I can actually see for the first time what some people see in Barrack Obama - they see themselves! Although, frankly, I think those black Americans excited about Obama are seriously delusional - he has nothing whatsoever in common with those Americans, IMO! But this lady has got me all wound up! She is someone I could've gone to high school with or lived in the sorority house with or served on the PTA with! I detest people who vote on emotion and I would've voted for McCain regardless of his choice today (if only because the alternative terrifies me!). But I'm unnerved by how how moved I am by this!
