I have parasite or something in my stomach and have to have a stool sample done[:'(] Anyone else ever have to do that? Goofy question: How much am I suppose to take in?? 1 TBS, 1/4 C, 1/2 C??? serious, I have no idea. I'm living in Mexico. I went to the pharmacy and bought my container and hopefully tomorrow I'll have a BM and be able to take the sample in.

It doesn't take much, a small amount(1tbsp) should be sufficient. I had amoebas in my belly after a trip to Mexico and it was awful.

Is there no "fill container to this level" line on the container? The ones we gave out always had lines on them to show you how much.

it looks like a measuring cup on the outside, no directions.

@Mrs. Wifey, what were some of your symptoms? I have 'gas' in my upper intestines and it hurts! When it does release the smell is fouler than foul! I've treated myself for amoebas with over the counter meds available here, but I'm tired of it coming back! It makes me feel so sick!

I've had giardia (unfortunately, not after a terrific trip to Mexico - my dad brought it home from the hospital he worked at). My understanding, it doesn't take much to perform the test. That's why it is the most effective test over anything to determine parasites & even what type.

If I can make a suggestion. Do not get treated w/ Cipro. It totally messed up my stomach. I have to watch everything I eat now (nothing really acidic or spicy) or I will be ill for days. I wasn't given this w/ giardia (had it twice). It was from another parasite I contracted working at a hospital. I never got it diagnosed & went ahead & took the cipro, now fully regretting it (even though it worked quickly). My suggestion is flagyl. Doesn't cause permanent problems.

One sad reality, parasites will die, but the intestine will always have traits left behind, so you will always be succeptable to contracting them in the future when exposed (my son & I both get them easily, now even though no one else in our family contracted the giardia). So, when traveling, be extra careful what you eat & drink & if you are in a hospital, wash your hands regularly. k

Thank you wareglekd, I'm sorry for your stomach problems. I'm not sure what is in Vermox Plus, an over the counter treatment we have here but that's what I typically use.

I have a friend, who is a micro biologist, that has been suspicious that I had giardia for a few years now. Especially, when I told her how foul smelling the gas. Thank you for the heads up on Cipro. Flagyl will kill giardia?

The test you are talking about is from a stool sample??

I had awful stomach cramps and bloody diarrhea. If I remember correctly I was also treated with Flagyl.

Flagyl is usally the drug of choice.

Just fill up whatever you can. I'm sure it will probably be enough.

Thanks girls...I took my sample in and picked up the results. Everything is normal or no observation of, but what does this mean????

What is Fisico Quimico or chemical physique for? referencia 5.0-6.0 and mine is 7.0 I have no idea what that is or means.

Lucocitos, white blood count. referencia 0-1 and mine is 0-2, what's that mean?

I don't have any bugs However, I do have a doctor's appointment. Bet he'll tell me it's stress

Thanks you...Also, is it important to have stercobilin? reference says positive and I'm negative. Perhaps it's an indication of anemia, no?

Well, the doctor thinks I have entamoeba histolytica. So, hopefully, I'll be feeling a lot better soon! He said they were eating my vitamins! No wonder I've been so tired!

I saw this when you first posted it, but I was trying to figure out why a doctor in the States was doing Spanish tests. :) Good memory I have I guess.

I'm sure you figured everything out by now, but do you know what units the numbers are in? (It might not say.)

I don't know what it means/units that is. There is no other reference chart.

Basically, he said the white blood count shows a slight infection. The other was ph not chemical physique, that's what was written over the entire test result. So over all I'm just slightly high.
