Concerto -> God's Protection... (8/26/2008 6:41:30 AM)

I've heard in sermons that all things that happen to believers must first get past God. Meaning He decides what He is going to allow to come into our lives that will affect us. This concept can provide comfort, however, is it really Biblical? I mean, God is ultimately in charge of everything, that is quite clear. But, so often I hear that God allows this or that bad thing for a purpose. But, could it be that we are so desperate for the "why" that we like to somehow cling to the concept that everything bad that happens to us, must have a specific reason, or a purpose? I mean, the facts are, we live in a fallen world. We are sinners (although we are forgiven thank God), but, we still have the tendency to sin. Unbelievers are in bondage to sin, thusly, we will be affected by their sins. Also, satan has been given freedom (not sure to what degree) to bring about turmoil and destruction on our planet. The Bible talks about satan in 2 Cor 4:4 as the "god of this age." So, because of these facts, is it not logical to assume that bad things are going to happen to us? God will of course work through the bad stuff to bring about some type of good, but, we continue to search for specific reasons why the bad stuff happens. Are we looking for something that does not exist? Also, because we live in a fallen world, should we not expect that bad things are the norm and good things are the exception? C
