Attended a concert by The Dixie Echoes several nights ago and I was pleasantly surprised. They were great and did the entire program with piano and bass. What a pleasure it was to actually hear vocals again and without stacks and tracks. The music was real and very clean. Thank you Dixie Echoes for preserving the sound many of us miss so dearly.

I agree, D.E.'s are top notch. I got to hear them with their new bass singer, Pat Barker, for the first time this month at GOGR. (Well, ok he's been with them for a year but still seems new to me) But, anyways, he did an outstanding job on "How Big Is God?" I've been singing that song over and over in my head since that night. They are a fun bunch of guys too. I visited their product table and they were more than happy to cut up and allow me to photograph them. I can't wait to hear them again. Looks like I'll have to wait until Oct. 9th when they will be at Dollywood for SGMA day.

Saw them last week and came away very impressed. Like I said in my concert review, aside from all the stylistic discussions of the vintage quartets versus the (arguably) more mainstream quartets, you have to be REALLY GOOD to pull off an entire concert with a piano, bass, and two mics.

We had a great conversation at the breakfast. Mike Allen and I sat at the back of the hall together on Friday night during your stand. Not only were we impressed with your sound and style...We were blessed immensely! We made sure on Saturday night that we were back in the hall when you guys sang. We were really glad you did HOW BIG IS GOD again...and LITTLE IS MUCH, was just overwhelming....both nights! Thanks for singing those great songs with such skill and sincerity. Hope our paths cross again soon. Randy asked me to send him some songs. Maybe I'll live long enough to hear you guys do one.

I too love the sound of the Dixie Echoes. I'm curious though and maybe only the members of the quartet can verify this. It's my understanding that Randy sold the ownership of the group to Stewart. Can anyone verify this? I thought that would be a big news item to appear online somewhere as well as in the industry mags. Rev. Slade Alday Minister of Music Faith Baptist Church Monroe, GA

RevSlade...#14, Someone just brought this thread to my attention by email, and I thought I could clear up anything. In August of 2007, Randy sold half of the Dixie Echoes to me, and the other half to his son Randy Jr. So, I'm NOT the sole owner. Wish so many of the older group names going away when the senior members retire, Randy thought it was best to pass the torch now, so that the Dixie Echoes can continue for many years to come. Our 50th anniversary is just around the corner, I've now been with the group 10 years, Randy Jr. has been here 19 years, and we plan on carrying it on as long as the Lord intends! It's no secret, we just don't tend to put out press releases on every thing that happens. God Bless, Stewart Varnado Dixie Echoes Quartet

Qtman is correct, I have responded to posts before, but they have always been in some form of my name. ie.. Stewart_Varnado or SVarnado etc. Truth is, I post so seldom that I forget my screenname and/or passwords.
