AMEN!

I was going to save this for one of the thankful for today threads --- But --- I thank GOD for each one of you and for blessing these threads like the encouraging thread and the prayer/praise threads. These are places where the love, warmth and compassion are shown by our spiritual siblings. (Sometimes i'm just not up for the debate threads or perhaps in another where views clash ).

Sometimes, i feel inadequate as a Christian (i think there's a thread on that, too). I think to myself "i wish i could pray like that or give advice like that". But these verses (i used only a part here) show me that we all have a different part in the body of Christ and i just have to be the part that GOD called me to be.

For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. For in fact the body is not one member but many. If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body?...

But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. And if they were all one member, where would the body be? But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”;...

..but that the members should have the same care for one another. And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.
1 Corinthians 12:13-26

restinginHim, your so right. I used to listen to people who could pray big beautiful flowery prayers, and wish I could pray like them. That they were better than me, somehow closer to God.
But God doesn't care about the flowery words. He cares if your talking to Him from your heart. He has a place and purpose for each of us in the body. You are His precious child.

me too

But God doesn't care about the flowery words. He cares if your talking to Him from your heart.

I used to be impressed by the big beautiful flowery prayers too. Then as I started walking closer with Him, I realized it was just a bunch of fluffy words.

One of my favorite songs has these lyrics:

It's not just melodies and harmonies
That catches His attention
It's not just clever lines and phrases
That causes Him to stop and listen
But when anyone set free,
Washed and bought by Calvary begins to sing

His favorite song of all
Is the song of the redeemed
When lost sinners now made clean
Lift their voices loud and strong
When those purchased by His blood
Lift to Him a song of love
There's nothin' more He'd rather hear
Nor so pleasin' to His ear
As His favorite song of all

I believe prayer works the same way. It's the substance God is listening for, our expression of love to Him.

Thank you restinginHim for the verses.

Speaking of expression of love, the following passage often has helped when I was looking for encouragment...Makes one feel like bursting into a love song to God.

Lamentations 3
21.Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope:
22.Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.
23.They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Amen!

Sometimes people think this verse is overused, but it's one of those basics ... and if we keep our mind focused on those things, well, life just seems to be a little nicer.

Ah! Yes! The scripture that gave me the idea to choose my online name. I love this scripture, find it encouraging. Wouldn't it be great to have peace of mind—the very peace of God— every second of every day? .....someday.

Oh.....there it was.....peace for one second....while reading this scripture it sneaked up on me.

Thanks for posting this passage.

Thank You Father!

peaceofGod, ever since I read your post this verse keeps coming to mind.

Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

And this song.

"Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
look full in His wonderful face.
And the things of eart will grow strangely dim,
in the light of His glory and grace."

Isn't it so true!

It may be that your teenage son would appreciate what I wrote in the margin of my Bible next to this passage of Phil. 4:6-8. What I wrote was A B C to remind me of Always Be Cool instead of being stressed, angry, fearful or nervous.

I suspect that a lot could be said in favor of keeping our cool....better yet, keeping God's cool.

Thank you, peaceofGod; I like it! I will share ABC with him, i'm sure he'll appreciate that very much.

On the outside he seems to keep his cool, but for him and maybe some of us - the inside can be in turmoil -- so this is a wonderful reminder to keep GOD's cool every which way

I have been doing a bible study on Luke. In chapter 12 we are old this

22Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? 26Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

27"Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 28If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! 29And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.

32"Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. 33Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

To me the bold statements from Jesus have been very encouraging, but the bold highlighted and underlined verse speaks to my heart. Our Father has been pleased to give us the kingdom, so we need not be afraid. How awesome is that. Thanks be to God for His unfailing merciful love.

Thanks for drawing our attention to this.

This passage gives special meaning to really putting first things first—31But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.

Thank the Lord for this thread!!

Ephesians 1:15-19 (The Message)

That's why, when I heard of the solid trust you have in the Master Jesus and your outpouring of love to all the followers of Jesus, I couldn't stop thanking God for you—every time I prayed, I'd think of you and give thanks. But I do more than thank. I ask—ask the God of our Master, Jesus Christ, the God of glory—to make you intelligent and discerning in knowing him personally, your eyes focused and clear, so that you can see exactly what it is he is calling you to do, grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life he has for his followers, oh, the utter extravagance of his work in us who trust him—endless energy, boundless strength!

I just wanted to share a couple links --

Names, Titles, Characters of Jesus
I enjoy reading those lists that show all the names of Jesus (perhaps you've seen the posters?). Well, i ran across this pretty comprehensive list at blue letter bible.org which includes handy links to the corresponding verse.
I'm always encouraged and comforted because Jesus is LORD of Lords, The Rock of my Salvation, and our all in all!

Praying with Paul
This one is at headlights.org. It is a daily prayer using a verse(s) found in Paul's letters. I've found it very uplifting and so timely for me every morning. Perhaps, it may be a blessing to you as well. This is today's...

The Greatness of God Ephesians 1:17-20

Dear Father, God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Glory.
Give me a spirit of wisdom and of revelation so that I may truly know the Savior.
Let the eyes of my heart light up with comprehension, that I may know how vast is the hope to which you have called me!
May I come to know how truly boundless are the riches of your glorious inheritance that you have in us, your special people.
May I understand to its depth how immeasurable is the greatness of your power in us who have put our trust in you.
My Father, I have put my trust in you. I am one of your special people! Lift up your Son in my heart! Work powerfully in my life!
In the name of Jesus I come. Amen.
