jchaz -> Seized For His Glory (8/21/2008 7:06:33 AM)

A recent thread asked about books by or about people in Southern Gospel Music. I mentioned quite a long list, and in that list, mentioned Brenda Robinson.

Brenda and her family sing as "New Desire". Her husband, Dan, and their son, Labron are both very good preachers, and Brenda - has taught Women Conferences all over the world. She is very grounded in The Scriptures, something that she studied heavily during a debilitating 6 year bout with grand mal epileptic seizures. They now travel the world sharing the Good News of The Gospel of Jesus Christ, and encouraging people to succeed victoriously in life through their trials. Brenda also hosts a TV program where she teaches the Bible based lessons that are found in the many workbooks and study guides that she has written. If you like Beth Moore, you'll certainly LOVE Brenda Robinson.

For some reason, this very humble and genuine family hasn't been embraced by the SG community as quickly as some other groups. That's always puzzled me. They are great singers, great ministers, great motivators, and in general, just great people to be around.

I was just wondering if any of you have ever heard them in person (either the group singing, or Dan, Labron & Brenda preaching/teaching). BTW, they respect and minister in all denominations' but they are of the Baptist faith. And, in case you were wondering, Brenda doesn't consider herself a preacher. She only teaches women -- that is unless men happen to 'slip in' to her meetings on their own... HaHaHa! (I know... I set that up for a few funny comments, didn't I?)

Anyway, I was just wondering if you had ever seen them in action.

I haven't seen them. Are they in the Atlanta area? Do they have a website with a schedule?

BBfan -> RE: Seized For His Glory (8/21/2008 8:06:08 AM)

Charlie...I haven't heard of them. Anyway to get more info on them?

SingingGal -> RE: Seized For His Glory (8/21/2008 10:36:17 AM)

Charlie you already know this but for everyone else........

I have been with Brenda and the family many times in concert and in various services and everything Charlie says is right on target. They are incredible people with an incredible story to tell. Brenda has done several women's seminars at our church and the group has been in concert there several times also.

I have read "Seized For His Glory" several times and have my own autographed copy that Brenda signed for me.

I've heard Brenda's testimony many, many times and still get chill bumps (or Jesus Bumps as a friend says) every single time. I could never get tired of hearing that miracle of her healing.

I highly recommend New Desire to everyone!

They had an awesome piano player years ago that looked a whole lot like jchaz too! [:D]

Was gonna tell you Dinana & Donna they are just up the road from us, Aargon, GA. They sing around here some. We've been to several of their concerts over they years. They were at New Hope Baptist, Acworth not too long ago.

I failed to mention that Brenda has been interviewed on several major Christian TV shows, most recently on Daystar Network's flagship show, 'Celebration'. Dan & Brenda were on a very moving episode of James & Betty Robison's "Life Today" show. Kinda strange that they've caught the attention of the 'big guns', but have been inadvertently overlooked by their own industry... Hopefully that will change soon. Brenda's show airs on AngelOne on Monday & Wednesdays. (I watch it on DISH...) She's on another network, but right now, I can't remember it. Maybe the National Religious Broadcaster's Network?

Although it is clearly marked, their schedule does include Dan & Brenda's speaking dates, as well as New Desire's singing dates. I can see how it might be very easy to show up at a revival service or women's conference, expecting a full blown concert... Just read the sidebar carefully!

Will do! Thanks, Charlie.

I just noticed that New Desire was scheduled to sing on one of Showcases at NQC. I was slightly amused that it is billed as a showcase for "Regional Artists". ND is actually far from being that. Truth is- like most other professional SG groups, they do sing in the 'Southeast Region' frequently. But, they also are regularly found traveling all across the USA and Canada. They have even recently sang & ministered as far away as Africa. But, then again, I guess Kenya IS a just another region...

The misnomers in SG are always well... amusing.

jchaz, I think that "regional" is more or less a euphemism. It sounds a lot better than "non-professional," "amateur," "indie," "wannabe," or a bunch of other things that non-headliner groups are called in other genres.

(By the way, I'm not saying any of those except "non-headliner" applies to Seized for His Glory—I was just commenting on your comment.)

I think he meant 'New Desire' ?

danielmount -> RE: Seized For His Glory (8/26/2008 9:34:35 AM)

Yes--sorry!

jchaz -> RE: Seized For His Glory (8/26/2008 10:22:52 AM)

I think "Seized For His Glory" might make a good name for the quartet in Louisiana's Angora Prison...[:D][:D]

danielmount -> RE: Seized For His Glory (8/26/2008 11:47:56 AM)

How about a Holy Rollers group?[8D][:D]
