I have to admit I have it on when I go to bed. I hit the timer for about 30 minutes when the weather is on. If goes off after Jay Lenno's first skit. Most nights I've already fallen asleep by then.

I too have to have a fan on. I've just gotta have the air moving around me, even in the winter. I just pile on the extra blankets!

My husband needs a fan on, too. I'm lucky, though, that he doesn't mind the TV on. In fact, he has this one movie I can't remember the name of that he keeps in the DVD player in the bedroom. If he can't go to sleep, he turns it on and he says it works every time!

I always fall asleep with the TV on. I need the distraction to quiet my mind.

Maybe for some people. If I try to sleep in darkness and silence, my mind will start going 90 miles an hour. But with the drone of the TV, I am able to drift off. Believe me, I've tried to sleep without it; and I have lain awake all night long trying to break the habit. It's just easier to leave the TV on.

That's why I do it. My mind will race, then I will start worrying about what time it is, and that just starts a vicious circle.

If I sleep with the TV on, I don't get enough rest and so I wake up tired. I don't like to sleep with the TV on because I don't know what kinds of movies will be broadcast and they are often incorporated into my dreams. I used to fall asleep to the Jay Leno Show and Conan, but the channel I'd watch was very fond of putting on horror movies late at night. So I had plenty of nightmares and I woke up, there would be some movie about the devil or the occult on. Occasionally I'll fall asleep with CNN on, but it isn't intentional.

I usually read before I go to sleep (there is always a book in my bed) which means the light is usually on. But sometimes I'll fall asleep to a podcast or a news or christian program that has been archived and streams on the internet.

What is strange though is that I'll fall asleep in a movie theatre in a heartbeat if I'm not interested in the movie. I'm a big sci-fi fan, but could never get into star wars. I tried to go to one of the recent star wars movies. I saw the beginning up to the introduction of Jar Jar Binks (I think that was its name). Well, the next thing I knew, the credits were scrolling up the screen.

I will generally set a sleep timer on it. It bothers me if someone turns the tv on when I'm sleeping though.
TV does seem to put me to sleep, but it will wake me back up if it's on too long. Last night I started watching Singing in the Rain. Fell asleep 10 minutes into it and woke back up about three minutes before it ended.
Thankfully it was a DVD so I can watch it again tonight.

Speaking of which..... nighty-night y'all!

Being that I have sleep apnea and homeschool 3 kids, and take care of so many people.....t.v. equals sleep...whether I like it or not. Everyone yells at me when I snore during their favorite shows. I'm thankful for my dvr. If I suspect I'm going to fall asleep when I really want to see something, I record it.

I used to fall asleep to the TV a lot when I used to watch Gilmore Girls on DVD every night.

Now I rarely do as I am usually on the computer until bedtime.

I sleep with it on, choosing Animal Planet in order to prevent something really bad from being on while I sleep.

Have any of you asked yourselves why you do this? I have, and i don't like the possible answers.

Sheer exhaustion in my case! Although, I must admit....when I can't sleep, I do turn the t.v. on and it lulls me to sleep.

I do not. I don't like TV's in my room. If it is on, I have to watch it. My husband had it in the room when we got married.

I like quite. So along with it is too hot, too cold argument, now we have the turn the fan on, turn it off arguement. LOL! He likes it on, but I can't sleep with all that noise. So then I said OK, let's open the window for fresh air and we can cool off the room, know what he said? He can't sleep with the chirping of the crickets. That they sound like an alarm clock. Well the fan sounds like a turbo plane!

anyway, I digress. I like total quiet and no tv in the rooms.

I pop in a movie every night and turn the sound down just low enough that it cancels the random house noises that always freak me out for no good reason.

I need complete silence to sleep. If I leave the TV on, the sounds work themselves into my dreams. (Makes for some strange dreams...lol)

I need silence to sleep. But I will fall asleep while watching TV, usually because I'm very tired, but then like Crystal-J, the sounds work themselves into my dreams. Then I have some pretty strange dreams!!!

No, I hate the TV on. I hate even having a TV in the bedroom and strictly forbid my children to have one. Dh was allowed to fall asleep with the TV on growing up and he has a terrible time falling asleep, seems to never sleep very well, and the TV drives me crazy! I just wont let my kids fall into this trap.

Iam the same way. We have ONE TV in the house....for all to "share"....and NO TV in ANY bedrooms...AT ALL...

why am i that way?

hmmm...perhaps it's because that's how I grew up (only ONE tv in the house....but, that was more out of what we could afford, and not "choice").....and, we rarely use the one we have now.....so, why would we need more? (we don't even have cable/satellite or anything.....that's how infrequent we even use it).....

the kids watch a bit of PBS (usually Fetch with Ruff Ruffman) in the afternoon after homework is done, before I get home from work....later on, i usually watch the 10:00 news in the evening....and that's about it (except for HISTORY DETECTIVES on PBS....)....and a few other shows here and there....
