ORIGINAL: Jenny-Fair Isn't the ACE curriculum work at your own pace? If so, there'd have been no 'down time' during which to read, so perhaps they were trying to keep kids from goofing off...of course, I am of the school that believes some goofing off is a good thing, lol, and I hate to interrupt the kids when they are reading to make them do schoolwork. Technically, yes, it is work at your own pace. But what that translates to is that you set a goal for each subject everyday. Once you meet your goals for the day, you're pretty much on your own. However, ACE curriculum--at the time--wasn't exactly rocket science. There were plenty of kids who would sit down with a new workbook and have it completed in an hour. I remember several occasions that kids finished every workbook they had and had nothing to do for an afternoon. No books--and no personal effects--inside a cubicle makes for a really boring school day. (Also, no reading at lunch or recess.)
