Is it really that dangerous to leave the kids for the 30 seconds or so it takes to wheel the cart to the nearest return? Even if you can't park immediately next to one, there's usually one not that far away.

Since I only have one, I pack the groceries away, then wheel Nathan and the cart back, then carry Nathan to the car.

Or just shop at Publix; they walk out with you, put the groceries in the car while you buckle up the kids, then take the cart back for you! They can be a bit more expensive then Kroger, but their fresh produce is better quality.

I'm not really good at parking a large car, so I have tendancy to park away from other cars, like where all the large trucks park. I usuallt go in the morning though, so I am usually in an almost empty parking lot.

FROM HERE
quote:

She had put her children in the car, including Nancy, the little baby, the month-old baby, and that she went to return the shopping cart in the parking lot, when all of a sudden she turned around and noticed that someone had snatched the baby out of the car and was driving away with her infant baby. Ran after the kidnapper, a woman, and she was dragged along for at least 30 feet by that car.

Granted, this took place in 2002, but it did happen which makes it enough for me to say leave the cart where it is.

That's me too. I have to really hike it when I go to Wal-mart, which is another pet peeve - talk about long lines...even the self check out. I obviously haven't found the right time of day to go there. The only reason I go is for the cheap prescriptions.

The cart thing is definitely one of my pet peeves. As a person who has had their car dinged from a cart rolling around in the wind, I find not putting them back very rude.

I also find dirty diapers in the middle of the parking lot/beach/anywhere other than a trashcan nasty and a huge pet peeve of mine. People who do that should be banned from going out in public.

I hate those voice operated phone services. Its so hard when you have kids, the y can say "ah" and it will say "sorry I am having trouble understanding you, can you repeat that" so then you go to say it again, then another noise and the cycle goes on and on.

Oh Sarah, terrible bag packers with groceries really ticks me off!!! As a former checkout chick of 7 years, and most of those I was a supervisor, it really made me cross to see people packing wrong, and now as a customer it makes me even more mad. I pack everything on the belt in the right order, yet they still lean over and grab disinfectant to put in with the freezer stuff, or put bread and eggs down the bottom

When I was growing up at home (especially as a teen) my dad would be SO cheerful in the morning and tried start up cheerful, chatty conversations first thing. NO.

^ This is totally my dad, too! ^

Some pet peeves (I'm sure I have more):

Half-naked girls/women walking around in public. Do our boys/men need to start wearing blinders? Put some clothes on!

Sweatpants-type clothes in church. I just don't get that and I never ever will.

Sexy-type clothes sold for little girls (and then worn by them). That is just so very wrong.

Teenagers on cell phones non-stop. Honestly, I worry for those people.

Perfectly healthy people who walk. . . v e r y. . .s l o w l y. . . when crossing the street in front of cars. The kind of people who have an ATTITUDE about it. I can honestly say when I walk in front of a car stopped for me I *hustle* to get across and I ALWAYS wave thank you -- and I always SAY thank you even if they can't hear me. ALWAYS.

When I go out of my way as a driver to let someone else merge ahead of me and there is no thank-you wave. What?

Lazy America. That might get some mad at me but I am tired of people sauntering across the street at a snail's pace (rudely, see above). Tired of people's trash NEXT TO or in the VICINITY OF a garbage can but not in it. Tired of drive-thru everything. Tired of seeing the frozen food section at the grocery store containing nearly everything you could at least TRY to make at home (and thus more healthy) once in a while. Tired of people getting their morality from TV and then touting it as how it should be.

Oprah is a pet peeve of mine. So are celebrities who think I give a care what they have to say about politics or religion or lifestyles or anything for that matter. You're an ENTERTAINER. I do not care what you THINK because of that.

People who want to visit FIRST THING when you get home from the hospital with a new baby after a long delivery. And by FIRST THING I mean even 4 weeks later. Hey, I don't want to have to clean my house for you, okay? (No offense.)

Bouncing off the one above: people who tell you not to care about the house when you have a new baby. Oh, okay, let me suddenly become a completely different human being who no longer cares what state of disarray her house is in when close family and friends come over. Sorry -- I am who I am and that cliche really bugs me.

And one more baby-related one: "Sleep when the baby sleeps." Yeah, because the house will clean itself, I'll wake up smelling like roses and not need a shower, laundry will jump in the washer/dryer by itself, food will magically appear -- fresh and cooked -- just in time for a meal.

People who talk about money all the time.

People who spend more money than they should and then complain about the economy when they live in a house twice what they need and drive 2 new SUV's and have the kids in year-round traveling hockey ($$$).

When people who have wonderful grandparents don't make time for them while they are still alive. (Spoken by someone whose last grandparent died when she was 15. They don't last forever.)

When a husband calls his wife "Mom" instead of her name or the wife calls the husband "Dad" instead of his name. Or nicknames that should not be shared with the public, like "Pookie". Nobody wants to hear your diabetes-inducing nicknames for each other.

When people forget their audience -- talking about weight with people who struggle gaining weight or losing weight, talking about grown-up topics and concerns in front of children/teenagers, talking nonstop about the joys of marriage or parenting when they're with single people or those struggling with infertility. Find an audience that isn't hurt by the discussion.

I think I should stop soon, huh? But I have one more:

When service personnel in stores ROLL THEIR EYES at the customers. Usually it's not me because I am very easy to please and never speak up about things that are off, but I have seen the nicest people say some kind of complaint or "I thought this was half off?" and the salesperson ROLLS THEIR EYES at them. So.incredibly.rude.

Okay, I thought of more:

Parents who expect me to be enchanted by their child's misbehavior. (I'm not.)

Parents who let their children sit facing backwards during church or on a long flight (standing on the seat). Trust me -- that is REALLY ANNOYING to the people behind your kid to be stared at the whole time.

Teenagers who are disengaged from society. Who are your parents, and why don't they care that you're going to need a job someday and will need some people skills and not have them?

When people say "What religion are you?" and they mean "denomination". (Like a Baptist saying this to a Lutheran -- "What religion are you?")

"Christian" people who believe all roads lead to heaven.

The prosperity gospel.

When you've done well enough in your career and other people act like you've always had life that easy and aren't a self-made person.

Co-workers who are not made to be resourceful and instead drain resourceful co-workers' time by asking inane question after inane question.

Co-workers who are allowed to use a computer when they know absolutely nothing about it and therefore suck up your time 10 times a day asking questions any adult parked in front of a computer should know.

Co-workers who refuse to call the I.T. helpdesk because "it takes too long" and instead want your help because you know a little something but then you end up working till 7 p.m. at night because you couldn't get your own work done during the day (while they left promptly at 5 p.m. for the night).

People who act like know-it-alls. Hey, we all have Google.

Swearing.

Sorry, pet lovers, but when people let their pets lick their faces and especially their children's faces.

Women who leave a public restroom without washing their hands.

When people can't eat a little humble pie and admit they didn't know what they thought they did. (See Know-it-all comment above)

Oh, this is quite a long list....oops.

Oh my, you may be stepping on some people's toes around here with that one Jeaine

I don't like it when either sex don't wash their hands!

Nose-picking at traffic lights or whilst watching tv annoys me!

Fidgetting gets on my nerves. SIT STILL!!!!!! Hubby's entire family are fidgettters, you can't sit and watch something for 30 mins without someone kicking the rug up over and over, tossing a cushion in the air, tapping their feet on toys (yes, tapping their dirty feet on my kids toys that my kids put in their mouths!! another peeve!!)

LOL! I didn't say here....but I'll leave you guessing!

Well, I said women because I am not inside the men's public restroom so I have no idea which man did or didn't wash their hands.

Women, though, women I can see or hear and know they didn't wash their hands. I mean, if all you did was fix your make-up or check your hair -- but if you have used a stall and flushed -- it's HAND-WASHING TIME!

Oh, and my other pet peeve is when people like me have so many posts on the same page that it is just filled with their cute little avatar boy over and over again.

Ooooo, this is a pet peeve of mine when it comes to my mom. When she talks about my dad, she always says "your daddy". First off, I never called him "daddy", even when I was a tiny girl. He was always "dad". And second, I do actually know my dad's name. It's not all that common of a name, and even if it were, I think I could figure out by context who she was talking about!

Jeanie --- for someone who says you are easy to please, you sure have a long list of pet peeves.

VPs who constantly give away free goods to a customer throwing away money.

Directors who refuse to learn how the department he manages works. Manufacturing director who doesn't know how to assemble the instrument the manufacturing department manufactures.

...speaking of know-it-alls...I've been watching Verminators on Discovery channel I think and now "think" I know what I'm talking about when it comes to pest control. So my mom calls and tells me about the mice my dad found in the camper. I proceeded to tell her everything I know about catching the mice and preventing it from happening again. Then I told her, "I think I know what I'm talking about because of this show...." She about died laughing so hard.

I don't advocate leaving the kids in the car while putting the cart up...not around here anyway. Most who have kids (who I know, unless they have several arm babies) just load the groceries and take the kids w/them to put the cart up. They can carry one or two babies back to the car (the ones who can't walk yet) and let the rest walk back to the car. I know not everyone can do that, but sometimes I see it's possible but that they just don't want to do it. I know one of my cousins had triplet babies as a single mother and there were times she couldn't carry all three back to the van after taking them to return a cart, but her older children did it for her (returned the cart, not carried the babies). :)

My sister is that way. She's an RN (with an associate's degree), and I'm about to have a BS in biology. I'll answer anyone's question about biology/human biology...even if it's an "I don't know." She was adamant the other day that sarcoidosis is the cancer that AIDS patients get.... We were talking about Bernie Mac and she was saying that maybe he had AIDS because he had sarcoidosis. I told her that she was mistaken, because the cancer she was thinking of (it sounded like) was Kaposi's Sarcoma. Well... I still think she's mistaken.... She still thinks I don't know what I'm talking about. :) But my sis won't listen to anyone anyway. It's kind of funny, but I think it's a bit odd for her to be in the medical field yet not really want any more knowledge. I guess if she knows it all she doesn't need any more knowledge.

a few weeks ago I was at Wal-Mart (the bad one....we have two in town, and one is horrible, but it happens to be less then a mile from our house...but anyway) and the checker/bagger was packing the bags horribly heavy. I mentioned that she please pack them lighter since my kids help bring the groceries in...she IGNORED me!!!! Then she started packing them HEAVIER....so I started taking things out of the bags and repacking them myself. She then started a tug of war of sorts with the turn thing that the bags are on to stop me from rebagging them!!!! OF ALL THE NERVE!!!!!!!!!!! Ughhhh....that's the last time I went to that one, now I will gladly drive across town to the other nicer one (nicer as in customer service, it really isn't a nicer store in looks).

Ruth, you brought up going somewhere that brings it to your car...that's why I love the commissary and go when I can (that plus they have an excellent fruits/veggies section). I love that feature though...they have everything loaded in the back while I get the kids in their seats...then they take the cart for me!!!

small pet peeve.....babies that won't let you finish typing out the last two sentences of your post

lol...jeanie, don't ever change...lol

Women who leave a public restroom without washing their hands.

oh that one is so disgusting!!!!! A few weeks ago we were at McDonald's play area...I went to the restroom in their one by the kids area, then found it had no soap. So I came out and told Paul, then trudged to the other regular one to wash my hands...NO SOAP again!!!!!!!!! So I went up to the counter and asked fir the manager (in the middle of lunch rush of course). They got snotty with me about the manager being busy, and could THEY help me. So I said "Well, maybe you can...I was just wandering what the hand washing policy is in this place for employees because as a customer I am disgusted by the fact that BOTH bathrooms have absolutely NO soap". They quickly shuffled me away from the counter and got the manager. It wasn't like they were just out of soap either, there were no soap bags put back into the soap dispensers, so they KNEW they were out!!! I mean, really, how hard is it to go down to wal-mart and buy three soap dispensers and a refill bottle until you can get the kind that goes into the dispenser!!!!

People at work who take the elevator for one floor. I know there are people with disabilities, but most people are just plain lazy.

The cleaning lady who waits until 9am to start cleaning the bathroom, so the bathrooms are closed when everyone gets to work and needs to use the bathroom. Grrrr!

I'm always quick to inform a store/restaurant if they are out of paper towels/soaps/toilet paper. One restaurant did not have their hot water properly set, and it came out scalding hot. I was fine, but some 5 year old who likes to wash her own hands could've gotten seriously burned. I told the manager he had a lawsuit waiting to happen if he didn't fix that pronto!

Donna's thread has me thinking a lot about my uncle, my dad's only brother. Ironically, he was killed by a truck driver. The driver was driving while tired, fell asleep and smashed head first into my uncle. My cousin never recovered from the loss of his father and went on a downward spiral, despite older cousins and uncles who tried to fill the role of father. He's now in the State Jail.
