I'm not disappointed in the coverage since I have cable and can pick and choose which channels to watch according to what events are offered.....I've watched soccer, lots of beach volleyball which I love, tennis(all of these during the day).....then the network coverage at night....my only complaint is the swimming finals and gymnastics finals have been after 10PM which is generally when we go to bed in this house and we don't have a tv in our bedroom.

I was watching last night and I was so bored. They replayed the same jump 4 times every time. Then they had to say something interesting about every jumper when they came up to dive, but in some cases it was the same "interesting comment".

But the most boring part, for every 2 minutes of the olympics, there was 5 minutes of commercials! Yikes!

I was only watching because my husband wanted to see the womens gymnastics, or should that be girls gymnastics? But nothing came on at 8pm except re-runs from the day before.

Why would they not start new stuff at 8am in the morning, instead of waiting until noon to start stuff.

And I did not find the comentators interesting at all.

I'm highly disappointed that, since I'm in Canada, I can't watch NBC's live web video

This has always truly annoyed me, that we get NBC in the basic cable package but then they don't allow us access to their web video.

Does anyone know if everyone shows the same video footage? We were watching swimming on NBC and Michael Phelps was so far in front of everyone and the camera was focusing only on him. We were getting frustrated because we couldn't see where anyone else was. We would have changed over to the Canadian station but then we would have missed part of it. I wonder if it would have been the same camera on the Canadian station as well.

They were first focusing on him and then they panned out but really they were all going so fast i think they didn't know what to do because its rare that someone is that far ahead.

I've enjoyed it overall so far. My favorites have been volleyball (beach and indoor) and swimming. Other sports that I have liked are: team handball, water polo, basketball (I wish all countries would go back to amateurs though). I'm looking forward to track & field and the bicycle on the oval.

The main thing that has upset me is NBC takes commercials on all the technical timeouts (or whatever you call it every 7 points) in beach volleyball, and they never make it back in time. They always miss 2-3 points. As others have mentioned, I wish the commentators would just be quiet at times so that we can enjoy the performance and crowd reaction instead of having to hear them talk all the time. We know that it is bad and a deduction if a gymnast falls. We don't need a commentator to tell us that. Commentators getting on my nerves isn't just limited to the Olympics though.

I don't mind the commentators, especially on something like synchronized diving when I can't see what they see. (And I LIKE the multiple replays and slo-mos in something like synchro diving when it goes so fast, you don't know what you just saw!)

I don't mind commentators, because in many of the events I don't know how they are judged. I like to know what the judges are thinking when they score someone high or low. In the example that Tricia mentioned, I wouldn't have known that a big splash was a bad thing if the commentators hadn't told me.

Well, on Saturday, the west coast will be cheated again, this time we won't be seeing Phelps going for his 8th gold medal. It will be live at all time regions execpt for the West Coast.

This is a tradegy.

NBC ought to be ashamed of themselves.

A tragedy? That seems a little strong to me. It might be disappointing, I can understand that, but I don't think they are doing anything wrong by making a business decision.

You can watch almost everything live at the nbcolympics.com website.

But having a Tivo works perfectly in this situation, pause, rewind.. record.

Does anyone remember how Sydney Olympics went with the televised events since Sydney is 2 hours ahead of Beijing? I'm sure there were some coverage issue then and btw I was living in the west coast then but I don't recall being dissapointed which events were televised or not.

I'll think about that next time I'm trying to stay up until 12:30 to watch a baseball or football game in California.

Actually I completely agree that they probably didn't know what to do in that situation, it's just you're sitting there watching, cheering for someone, all of a sudden you can't see them for a bit, and when they go back you can't find them anymore. I wasn't sure if all stations use the same feed.

I agree but the Canadian commentator for the diving was getting on my nerves - "what a spectacular dive, they'll get 8's on that one" and then when they go to replay - "oh, they were off in synchronization and past vertical, they'll get 6's and 7's on that one." Maybe it does go to show that we really do need help if even the experts can't see things when it happens!

Won't they show it in the Olympic coverage that begins at 1 am on the East Coast? I thought that coverage was just a repeat of the day. Or is the problem because it won't be shown live?

I haven't been able to stay up late enough for an entire gymnastics competition yet, and thus watch it the next morning or the next evening.

I did stay up for the gymnastics. Then I couldn't get to sleep when I finally did crawl into bed!

Gayle, it's two hours. Big deal. Turn off the TV, don't go to news websites, and you'll be surprised and pleased with the results as if they were live.

Personally, I wish they WEREN'T live - I hadn't been able to watch the men's gymnastics finals because they were on too late!

See how simple it can be? Just one click and everything's better.

I watch in bed, and always seem to fall asleep in the middle of someone's routine....for example, I missed the Chinese gymnasts fall on the vault because I fell asleep during her run up to it

Oh wow! I did the same thing.
At first I was ready to tun off the TV after the first two rotations, then for some reason I stuck with it. I was so charged, I couldn't sleep. Then had to get up at 6am to get to work on time.
I'm so tired!!

I missed the men's all around. I'm not sure NBC aired it since there wasn't an American in the serious running for a medal.

Yes, NBC did air the men's all around, but I pretty much missed it. When I heard the recap the next day I realized I haden't missed much. I'm glad I was able to be up for the women's though. It was really good. To bad I had to get up a couple of hours latter. Oh well.

I'm starting to get annoyed by the announcers calling the women's gymnastics. Granted, I expect American reporters to be a bit biased towards American athletes, but during the women's individual all-around finals, it was getting a bit much. Shawn Johnson can flail wildly, almost falling off the beam and have the announcers describe it as "a little balance correction," while the chinese girl wobbles a bit and it's potential for big deductions. I had to wonder if I was watching the same event that they were calling.

I must say it was quite fun watching Bela Karolyi get all excited tho! If nothing else that man is passionate! I simply couldn't stay up watching the gymnastics finals so seeing them replayed on morning tv was great! Wasn't as great as watching them live - since someone in my family who will remain nameless read the news first, but hey watching the replay of Bela nearly bouncing out of his seat put a smile on my face!

Blessings,

Garsy

O'le Bela told it like it is this week on televison. Maybe that was the purpose--have his wife coach while he do editorials about what is going on in gymnastics.

Oh, and if NBC did not want the west coast to see the major events, Ebersol and them should not be deciving the people thinking that it is live. They need to be honest to us west coast people that this is taped delayed and be done with it.

And btw, I did get a text message during the Harvest Crusade last night (more important) that Phelps (no relation to Fred) did get his 7th.
