ORIGINAL: CCCdnt Putin accuses U.S. of orchestrating Georgian war SOCHI, Russia (CNN) -- Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has accused the United States of orchestrating the conflict in Georgia to benefit one of its presidential election candidates. In an exclusive interview with CNN's Matthew Chance in the Black Sea city of Sochi Thursday, Putin said the U.S. had encouraged Georgia to attack the autonomous region of South Ossetia. Putin told CNN his defense officials had told him it was done to benefit a presidential candidate -- Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama are competing to succeed George W. Bush -- although he presented no evidence to back it up. Full Artile Took him long enough to catch on. The visit of Cheney's assistant for national security affairs, David R Wood, to Georgia just before Georgia got frisky should have been a tipoff. Even more should have been Rove's attendance at a George Soros-sponsored conference in Yalta, where also were Pinchuk (one of the richest Russians fromthe collapse of the cold war), Saakashvili, Prez of Georgia, Yushchenko, prez of Ukraine who backed up Georgia's play policially and militarily, and Strauss-Kuhn of the IMF - all just shortly before Georgia went on the attack. if you can't read 'conspiracy' in that, you're willfully ignorant.

I don't even know how to respond to the post above that actually gave credit to the idea......... I think it's one of those reflexive left-wing notions - when in doubt, believe the Soviet propagandist.

Russia doesn't care about Obama,McCain,Bush or who ever. They have a plan a nd intend to carry it out no matter the president, prime minister of any country. Armenia or Azerbjan? Ukraine? Who is next?

Ukraine would be messy. What I find mildly sad and amusing at once about this is I used to warn about things like expanding NATO into the Warsaw Pact and into former Soviet territories, about the slap in the face to Russia our policy regarding Kosovo and Serbia was (though that goes back to Clinton, I realize that). I kept hearing that "Cold War is over, Russia is helpless". I don't believe that Russia is as powerful as some imply or this Georgian incident seems to imply but Putin's timing is perfect. We're tied down in two wars one of which is very very unpopular, our military is stretched to the max and even if the current administration does want to do something there's going to be a leadership change in November. As for Europe it's going to be a very long and very cold winter if the Russians shut off the gas. This is an awful lot of posturing and whatnot. If Russia goes after anything else it will be the little states and such nothing as big as the Ukraine. That would probably cause a civil war between the native Russians and the others.

I used to tell folks the Russians will be back, lots didn't believe me. Well, here thay are. I agree Ukraine would/will be messy, but I think their pride and ego will eventually get the best of them and they'll go for it. Either invasion, internal fights or both. Interestingly we haven't heard much from Finland,Norway and Sweden. What have they been doing for preparations? Totally relying on NATO?
