Not gettin my hopes up but I could be looking at a Horns v Tide Natl championship game.. Really don't see anybody gettin out of SEC w/o a loss. Especially when if ya have to figure in the fact the SEC and BIG 12 conference Champ game.

Also think Clemcon should have waited till the end of the season to get rid of Bowden. He'll have a job soon.

I'm a big Clemson fan as you can tell based on some of my previous posts. I really bought into all the hype on our team at the beginning of the year and really thought we had a shot at going 12-0 especially with our schedule in the weak ACC. You can scroll up where I thought Clemson could go 8-4 to 12-0, but I predicted 10-2. I have mixed feelings on Bowden deciding to step down yesterday. Who really knows if he stepped down as he and the Athletic Director say or if he was asked to. I believe the inevitable was that he was going to be let go at the end of this season regardless because of unmet goals/expectations for another year, and Bowden decided to go ahead and step down now. Bowden is a strong Christian and has brought that to this team. He brought an FCA chaplain whom I've met on several occasions that started an optional mentor program with the players and others in the community. A few of my friends are mentoring some of the football players, and I've thought about getting involved also. I've heard from several of my friends that of the 104 players on the team, 100 are involved in this mentor program at their choice. It is more about life and their Christian faith than it is about football. Bowden also ran a clean program that graduated his players. Sure we had some off-the-field situations with some players including one this offseason. I believe that Bowden handled them well; however, I don't know for sure because I never heard everything about any of them as I shouldn't have. With all that being said, in the business of college football, he wasn't getting the job done where it supposedly really counts and that is win. Sure our expectations are always high at Clemson, but I don't believe for the most part they are unrealistic. We do have fans that expect National Championship every year which is unrealistic, but many teams have those fans regardless of how good the team is. Most of our fans expected Clemson to at least go to the ACC championship game with a great chance to win it to go to the Orange Bowl. Most of the fans I know did not expect a National Championship this year. One of our problems was play calling for the offense. I believe we were too cute and finese oriented. We spend too much time in motion on most plays which did not fool the defense that much when we need to line up and run the play. Look at the Alabama game. I was there and was excited to finally play a non-conference game against a strong program. Who knew they would be where they are right now when the season started? Anyway, their defense got in their positions and just went after the ball. They didn't care about all the motion we did which did not fool them. Also, look at all the bubble screens that we run. Our offensive line is not very good haven't been for years. Clemson has had a lot of inuries on the O-line this year also. I don't know if Clemson just does not spend time recruiting offensive lineman or if it is just the 2-point stance that we do (players standing up to start blocking instead of putting their hand(s) on the ground). It is hard for the line to get any leverage when run blocking when they are already standing up. I don't care that we had a lot of talent in our skill positions. Without a line to block to open up running lanes or give the quarterback time the throw, all that skill doesn't matter. Also, our preseason ACC Player of the Year choice Quarterback hasn't played anywhere near the level he played last year. We shall see how the backup, local hero Willy Korn does on Saturday. I wanted Bowden to at least finish the year and replace Coach Spence (offensive co-ordinator) with Dabo Swinney (now interim Head Coach) to see if that helped. I feel for Coach Spence who was let go by Swinney to go in another direction as well because he is another strong Christian. I just think he was too smart for his own good in coaching the offense and calling plays. I look forward to see what changes if any Coach Swinney and the rest of the coaching staff put in. I do believe after yesterday ended, Clemson has the right person to lead this team for the rest of the year. The results will show if he will become the full-time coach down the road. He had his chance to go to back to Alabama where he played and helped coach, and he chose to stay at Clemson. He seems to be a good man, but I'm not sure about his faith because he hasn't been in front of the media like the head coach and co-ordinators have been. I did like what he had to say at press conference last night. I'm sorry for a 'book' here, but I close with this. I hope that Clemson can keep a lot of the off-the-field issues like they have been under Bowden and also start winning games on a consistent basis. I hope the team stays with the mentoring program under the leadership of the FCA chaplain, graduation rates stay up, and we keep a good, clean program. I wish Bowden and Spence all the best and hope they both find other jobs where they can succeed and be happy.

I didn't realize he was fired. I heard that he was leaving, but somehow got the impression he had quit. It does seem strange after only half a season where things aren't going just as predicted. After the success of previous seasons, you'd think a coach would at least get a full season, but this is college football. The first news that came out in our area was he was fired, later the AD said that Tommy Bowden realized it was best for the program and stepped down. But I'll refer to what Dabo Sweeney said in his interview " I know Tommy Bowden and Tommy Bowden does not quit. He is not a quit, never has and never will'. The AD said in his interview that he told Bowden he would have a job on a week by week basis - meaning the next loss you are fired, so I think rather than live that way he choose to walk away. I have a lot of respect for Bowden and Sweeney, they put grades and students before the wins and that is a problem at most colleges with their financial sports backers. I wish Dabo well as he is a 'Bama boy and I always like to see them do well. But last came of the seaon, I'll be pulling for the other side!!!

The other two have very tough schedules and conference championship games to boot. If Penn State gets by the Ohio State University it should be (key word is should) be smooth sailing.

If Texas wins the Big 12 south they may have to play Missouri twice. I don't think Kansas wil win the north. Bama could lose to Tenn at Vols stadium,LSU and or the Iron bowl with Auburn. Not loooking past Ole Miss but those are the Biggest games ahead. YeeHa! it's been great football season so far! College Football is great!

Well the Lonhorns are proving to be one awesome football team! My Tide needs to really work on the 2nd half. Right now of the Horns and Tide squared off: 1st half would be a great football game, 2nd half the Horns would totally dominate. I was actually pulling for Michigan to beat Penn State. Too bad.

The goalline block was pretty awesome. I think they'll be okay, but the 2nd half performance has to be picked up. Colt McCoy has been terrific. Showing he has matured alot in one year. Horns have it going but the next two weeks wont be any easier than the last two.

Serves RichRod right for the way he left WVU. I don't blame him (too much) for wanting to better himself - what coach doesn't? It's just the way he did it that ticks me and a whole lot of other Mountaineer fans. One of my friends from church told me last year that he had just become the biggest Ohio State and Penn State fan in the country. And for a die-hard Mountaineer to say he's a Penn State fan? That's a whole lot of hurt feelings!! I'm really looking forward to the Auburn game on Thursday night, but I just hope that they play better against them than they did in the Colorado game. YUCK! Alabama will lose a couple I hate to say it if Cody is out. he is the most dominating defensive player in College Ball. I hope they lose just one game, that being to Florida in the SEC championship game. Florida still has some challenges to get to that spot, but if they play everyone the way they played LSU, they'll be there! Whoever makes it to that game, it should be a good one. Of course the preliminary to the SEC will be Florida-Georgia next week.

Florida also has to thinik nof fact Mississippi brought them down a notch or two. It all boils down to QB's vs. Defense. is easy to say SEC and Big-12 are the best conferences. BUT, Big-12 has bunch of trash teams. SEC is domination from one end to other any team can knock you off. Big-12 has mccoy, bradford, daniel. 3 good qb's. SEC has DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE. those QB's won't win if they can't get the yards

Florida also has to think of the fact that Mississippi brought them down a notch or two. It's true that Mississippi beat us, and no excuses here. Fortunately, that game came early in the season and in the SEC one defeat probably won't end it all, especially early. I don't underestimate any of our upcoming challengers, but I don't thnk Mississippi would want to play us again.

We'll see! I just noticed that you are from SC which I take to be South Carolina. Why aren't you pulling for my old buddy "the head ball coach"? Seriously, I never met Steve but did and do like him as a coach. I did meet his dad once. We were singing at a Presbyterian church homecoming and he was the guest speaker.

Out of the teams in SC I do pull for Steve's team unless they are playing Alabama! Both teams in SC are far too political for my liking. But if I have to pick between Clemson and SC I stick with my 'colors' and go with USC.
