Just to let you know, I took someones idea here. We celebrated our big birthday bash on Sunday. I was going to buy a cake but thought about how much cheaper it is to make one. So I did. I made a butterfly cake. Everyone said it was a cute cake. I didn't hear one bad comment. (not that they would say bad things to my face anyway) But thanks to whomever that idea came from!!!

This site has som fantastic ideas for cakes http://www.coolest-birthday-cakes.com/castle-cake.html It should bring right to the castle cakes with oodles and oodles of ideas. plus on the left hand side, you can look at other kinds of cakes as well. This is also a really fantastic recipe for marshmallow fondant: http://whatscookingamerica.net/PegW/Fondant.htm I made a strawberry shortcake cake for my daughter this past year, and everyone raved about how beautiful the cake looked and how yummy it was. It was perfectly smooth layers. I made the fondant the day before and divided it and used food coloring to make colored layers. and then I took the left over fondant and took small cookie cutters and cut out shapes to put on the cake. I had so much fun, and am totally doing it again next year. The recipe looks a little intimidating, but it is so easy to make, and cheap too!

I made a Candy Land cake for my 11 year old daughter last year. I got the idea out of a taste of home magazine. My dd hates cake, so I ordered an ice cream cake undecorated in her favorite flavor to pick up the day before her party. We have the game so I just went off the box. With ice cream cake you have to decorate in stages. I used starburst for the spaces on the board, after you put it in the freezer they come out bright just like they look on the game board!
