Sorry I've been out of the loop for a while.

I think there is a vast difference between eating and talking with "sinners" and willingly supporting sinful behavior, which is clearly one of the issues that's come up with this situation.

My faith and beliefs are extremely strong and simply going to an event like this or talking to "sinners" is not going to effect that. I sensed a wee bit of judgmentalism in those comments....

Tricia----were you playing devil's advocate on your response to this? I was a little harried by your post.

One of the comments I made about losing my influence with him is not that I doubt God's ability to influence him without me or to preserve the relationship, just to clarify. It's just that he's been turned off by many Christians over the years saying one thing and doing another. I've been blessed to be a real-life, true example of a Christian for him and I would feel very bad if a bad choice here turned him away from Christ because of the actions of the one person he knew to be a solid, true Christian. I don't think that's in any way doubting God at all.

I also think there is a difference in someone coming to hear me sing and me going to celebrate someone's direct act of disobedience to God. The partner knows the truth and is accountable for his actions, so while my attending may show my undying love for my friend, it would also be supporting the disobedience of a professing Christian. That would be supporting the relationship of a Christian friend revelling in an extra-marital affair.

Wouldn't attending be saying one thing and doing another?

Wait!! Is his "christian" partner married?

I agree. Stay strong and continue letting God use you for His will SunshineSoprano. God bless you!

But you wouldn't be, would you? Not in your own eyes and before God?

No...I was drawing a parallel.

I just want to make sure I make the absolutely right decision in this case. I agree with Laura's comment that believing one thing and going is exactly the point. I just don't want to further point him away from Christ.

Yes, I was. I just wanted to make the point that your struggle with this doesn't automatically imply that you should go. I'm sorry that you were taken aback by my post. I didn't mean to say that you were any of the things I mentioned.

Not to someone who isn't a Christian. We're talking about perception here, not reality.

That was my question, as well.

That is a point I was saying earlier that someone else made much more clear with their own personal experiences. They might not like it now but will probably come to the point (especially if God is working in their life) where they respect you for sticking with your convictions.

Well, I think my answer has come...

I think my quartet has a booking on this day, so I won't be able to make it.

Sometimes God makes one's next step clearer in unexpected ways!
