Consecrated2God -> 99 Fun Ways to get rid of excess garden produce. (8/4/2008 8:34:31 PM)

Our cup runneth over. God has blessed us with prolific cucumbers this year. We've put up more pickles already then I think we'll actually eat in a year, and I'll have to go purchase more canning jars if I want to make more pickles. Tomatoes will be ready to can soon, too, and I've still got a whole laundry basket full of cucumbers.

Erick and I were thinking of ways to get rid of them, and I thought it would be fun to start a thread with some of the ideas we came up with, and let you all add your own to the list.

1. Take them to Wal-Mart and put boxes of cucumbers in people's vehicles.
2. Take them to a party and hand them out as door prizes. Have everyone put their names in a box and draw names for the winners until they are all gone.
3. Take them to the potluck at church instead of a casserole.
4. Give them to our neighbors as a thank-you gift for the sweet corn, potatoes, and green beans they gave us.
5. Pickle them and hand them out to the Trick-or-Treaters in October.
6. Give more pickles as Christmas gifts.

Got anymore ideas?

I think number 4 is your best bet. Swap them for other things.

7. Save em in a dark corner until Halloween. Instead of plain old boring bobbing for apples, give em variety...

8. Talk to your mayor about going for a worlds record biggest salad ever made- see if you can get the whole town to pitch in.

9. Jack o lantern... bah!!!! Jack o Smorgasboard YEAH!!!!

10. Pack em in a great big box and send them to some part of the country where they aint gettin all this good stuff!!!

3 words - Local food banks!

I know around here during the summer the Community Harvest Food bank sometimes will take locally grown produce to give out to those in need.

Blessings,

Garsy

Take them to Salvation Army or other homeless shelter.

Put them in a box and put them on the curb with a sign that says "Free to Good Home."

If you have tomatoes too, put on Veggie Tales plays with Larry and Bob.

Take them to work and put them in the break room with "Free" sign.

Sneak around and put them on neighbors' porches or steps.

Put them into the offering plate at church instead of money.

1. Give them to your neighbors, relative and friends.

2. Play baseball with them, using rotten tomatoes as baseballs. [:D]

3. Put them by your front door in case some idiot breaks in. Zucchini is also good for this. [;)]

4. Have a cucumber throwing contest in your backyard. [8D]

That's all I can think of right now.

31. Use them as giant beads and make necklaces out of them.

32. Put them in the back of a truck for extra weight so it can get traction during the winter.

33. Put them on stakes in the ground around the permeter of the yard as a warning to other cucumbers.

Make sandwiches with Benedictine spread - I'm not all that fond of cucumbers, but I think Benedictine spread is yummy!

If you let the cucumbers get really big, you could use them as bats. [:D]

38. You have lots of kids- one must have a birthday soon... have a veggie tales birthday party[8D] All your decorating, take home gifts, and even the snacks are already set to go!

39. Go through the wal-mart parking lot and leave one in each unlocked vehicle as a reminder of what could happen if they do not lock their doors.

40. How could I possibly not have thought of this... duh. Pinata filler!!! You could use the pinata for a birthday party, a potluck game, a fundraiser ($1 a hit in the parking lot of the local A & P), you name it!

41. You could bribe Fritz and the moderators with a chocolate cherry cucumber pie, topped with cucumber ice cream, so they'll ignore any TOS violations you unintentionally make. [:'(][:D][;)][8D]

That's a great idea! Zucchini would work too.

Once you get good with the cucumbers, then you get to move on to the zucchini. [8D]

I don't think bribing us is gong to work with cucumbers.
