As a Minister, in years past, I prayed and fasted alot during the first 15 years of Ministry. Fighting Satan and his demons.

God Bless!!

Mary Herself has said "with prayers and fasting you can stop wars and suspend the laws of nature"

Jesus Himself fasted for 40 days and nights

WE CAN ATONE FOR OUR SINS BY PRAYING FASTING GOING TO MASS AND CONFESSION AND BY DOING GOOD DEEDS

THIS HELPS TO CLEAN OUR SOULS FROM THE BLACKNESS OF OUR SINS

ONLY WHEN OUR SOULS ARE 100% CLEAN CAN WE ENTER HEAVEN

GOD WISHES FOR US TO RETURN TO HIM SO HE ALLOWS US TO CLEANSE OUR SOULS IN THESE WAYS WHILST WE ARE STILL ALIVE ON THE EARTH - HE DOES NOT WISH FOR US TO GO TO PURGATORY BUT INSTEAD COME STRAIGHT TO HEAVEN - THAT IS WHY WE PRAY AND FAST AND GO TO MASS!!

THIS IS ALSO WHY SATAN HATES A FAST - BECAUSE WHEN A PERSON FASTS THEY ARE CLEANSING THEIR SOUL FROM THE BLACKNESS OF SIN WHICH HELPS US TO REACH HEAVEN - SATAN DOES NOT WANT THIS FOR US AND THAT IS WHY HE HATES IT - HE KNOWS HOW MUCH GOOD IT IS DOING US AND HE HATES THAT!!

so keep fasting as much as you can - it works and do not listen to those who say we cannot atone for our sins because we can - all are sinners - all have the blackness of sin on their souls - but some people when they die go straight to Heaven - how ?

because they have cleansed their souls from their sins by doing the very things i have mentioned - so at the moment of death their souls are perfectly clean from the blackness of sin and they go straight in to Heaven - so do not listen to anyone who says we cannot atone for our sins - we can and God allows us to do so because He loves us so much He wants us to come straight to Heaven when we die and not to suffer any more in Purgatory

I dont listen to the RCC, mary or the pope if i want reasons for fasting. If i fast it's not so i can avoid "purgatory", a most laughable doctrine.

Just curious...where did you get this information? I know that Jesus fasted for 40 days, but where is the scripture for everything else, i.e. Mary's words on fasting, atoning for our sins, cleansing our souls, Purgatory, etc.

Frankly, I've never heard of such things.

DaveW -> RE: Have you ever fasted? (8/6/2008 11:43:30 AM)

So I guess that Jesus had to fast 40 days to atone and cleanse his soul from the blackness of sin and avoid purgatory...?????

It was my understanding that to enter heaven we needed to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Surely you are familiar with John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. We will never be 100% clean prior to our deaths.

Fasting can be used as a tool to help us in our walk (if our heart is focused on the Lord through the process), but I do not believe fasting or not fasting has anything to do with us getting into heaven.

haggismuncher, I'm concerned where you have gotten your beliefs and understanding. There are many people on the forums here that can help you have a better understanding of the Bible ... perhaps reading through some of the threads here in General Faith, as well as in FaithWalk / Protestants Only. It's crucial for you to understand what the Bible teaches, not a church doctrine.

ETA: I just saw a verse in another thread I subscribe to, and I felt it needed to go here as well:

Mark 16:16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

christsstar -> RE: Have you ever fasted? (8/6/2008 12:32:38 PM)

I'm not a moderator, so feel free to ignore me. However, I think maybe we should get back on topic and away from the catholic vs. protestant theology of fasting. Save that for the theology folder.

Focusing -> RE: Have you ever fasted? (8/6/2008 1:07:41 PM)

Christsstar, I understand your concern. I was reaching out to someone, as I come from the same background and recognize the teaching that has been posted. Perhaps that particular poster may never make it to the theology folder, then I would have missed an opportunity. This is a Christian site, yes? As such, I hardly think encouraging someone to read their Bible is out of line.

The only reason I mentioned the FaithWalk / Protestants Only folder was for the simple reason that there are some excellent discussions covering a wide variety of topics in there. I was not putting down any particular religion.

And I did indeed stick with the topic of fasting ... I just added some info that I have learned through my own experiences on my walk with the Lord (having come from that same line of teaching) ... I am by no means belittling the poster or their choices, simply encouraging them to educate themself through understanding what the Bible has to say. They also have the opportunity to ignore everything that I have said. It's all about choice.

eaglelady11 -> RE: Have you ever fasted? (8/6/2008 1:24:24 PM)

yes I have. once for a day, once for a couple of days. I've not only fasted food, but TV, complaining, internet, negative emotions.

I haven't done the 40 days yet. but it does bring you closer to God if your motive is right.

RubyJae -> RE: Have you ever fasted? (8/7/2008 12:17:53 AM)

I've never fasted. I keep thinking I should. Is it okay to just decide one day you're going to fast? Cuz' I know that I really should be fasting something, just not sure what and why....
