As an introvert, I would be quite content with a greeting consisting of brief eye contact and a slight nod. If one is feeling particularly exuberant, he could say "'mornin'", or even, in extreme cases, say something like, "'mornin', Bill." I realize I may find myself in the minority on this..... Seriously, though, I dislike the greeting rituals because I have always found them contrived and artificial. There is plenty of time before and after the service for hugs and kisses and greetings and conversations. Plus, there's usually coffee and donuts to boot.

LOL! Well, then, you'd better steer clear of ANY public place where you touch door handles, handrails, products on shelves others have touched, shopping carts, gasoline pumps, money, the ATM machine . . . . I could go on and on. Church is no more a dangerous place than these. But if you are concerned, then yes, do as someone else suggested and carry a small bottle of sanitizer in your pocket. Exactly. You can catch germs many other places. The idea is to wash your hands, and remember that we have immune systems for a reason. Fortunately, you don't get sick just because you come in contact with germs.

I was just trying to recall if I've seen any holy kisses in any of the famous movies of Biblical nature. I don't remember seeing any. Moses Passion of the Christ Jesus I have seen a lot of the 'threefold' kiss greeting of Eastern governing officials and such... three ear brushes in rapid succession, one, then to the other side of the head, and then back again. No kissing like might have been of Medieval times, where the king's ring would be kissed by the loyal subject on bended knee. I don't consider any of them to be holy kisses. I'm likely to do some hugging, but never have considered giving every sister in Christ in reach a holy kiss. That could cause some holy right crosses and gut punches and round-houses outside after a service. Then there'd be the clever guy who'd back out of one, reposition his face, and capture her lips instead of offering a cheek at the same time. A holy kiss should be mindful of the setting of it, and not be a full-blown theatrical one. Everyone during the greeting time could in unison say: "Hi sister/brother, how are you?" Then everyone could answer saying, "Well hi there sister/brother, I'm blessed more than I deserve. How are you?" Then everyone could say, "The Lord's been good to me, too. Let's have a worship service." And everyone say, "Amen!" There. No more need for hand sanitizer, or a bag of ice for a blackened eye, and no more beautiful young lady screaming in horror that she's got cooties or something. OneJohn410

ORIGINAL: earthless Church is absolute torture for me when I know that certain people there did not wash their hands after using the bathroom. And they were the ones that absolutely always came up to me wanting to shake my hand. I sort of expect little boys not to be very concerned about hygiene, but I am shocked at the number of adult men that never slow down as they pass a sink on their way out the bathroom. And they weren't in there to just check their make-up.

Don't automatically assume that the person who coughed is sick. I have allergies, things like cigarette smoke, cigar or pipe smoke or their lingering scents, some perfumes, aftershaves, soaps, fabric softeners and detergents can start me coughing, sneezing, start my eyes tearing and nose running like a faucet (not to mention an instant headache). I am not sick and what I have isn't catching although it may appear that way. That being said if people are truly sick, they for their own health and those around them, should stay home!!!

Christ healed me of OCD, and I am now free to shake hands, pat backs, hug, holy kiss...... just don't touch my face!!! I think if we put our focus on germs, it is all we will be able to see. bondage works that way.

Im not introverted but i agree with this point, and i do see folks in my church who are "greet shy" and it does seem uncomfortable for them.

ORIGINAL: Concerto The pastor says, turn around and greet those around you. Soon after, you begin shaking hands with a number of people. You notice that one of the persons who is sticking their hand out toward you, just coughed in that same hand. We all have heard that one of the primary ways germs are transmitted, is through hands. So, to reduce getting sick, perhaps we could adopt another form of greeting? I'm not a germaphobe, but, I am tired of catching things by shaking other people's hands who are sick. Also, when I am sick, I certainly do not wish to transmit my germs to others. What do you think? C I know how you feel! I have been driving a school bus for 10 years and have had kids sneeze in my face, wipe thier noses and then hand me something, get on the bus coughing up a lung etc, etc. I keep a box of kleenex on the bus, a bottle of hand sanitizer and lysol wipes to wipe down the seats where the sick ones sit. I also pray for Gods protection against all these germs as I do not have time to get sick myself. In all those years I have only once booked off sick. I have had a couple of colds and they where both mild. Looking after my kids and showing them love and caring no matter how germ covered they are is far more important than worrying about catching anything from them. When God is looking after you, you never need to worry about stuff like this. Yes, you may catch something, but showing His love is worth the risk!

I would wager most of you have never been on a farm or worked on a farm? A dairy farm? Now think about it. You are standing 4 feet or so below ground level....milking cows...who were never toilet trianed...on cement. Stuff flies. If I washed everytime a cow relived itself I would do nothing else...and ya know? I was hardly ever sick as a child. I think I missed two or three days due to illness in all the years I went to school. Fear not.

I laugh mostly becasue my friends and I have been working in child care for 11 yrs after that I have done it all clean eveything from blood noses to diapers to well you get the ideal and tryed to alway keep a clean room for the children but thur the 15 years for child care .teaching I prayed a lot and usally my class room and children were the healthies. Never missed a day in 10 yr due to sicknes, I usally was the one at work when other we art home with the flu ,no I am not a heath nut Just used comom sense. pray, So when it comes to hand shaking.hugg now I been to churchs that would not evevn think of touching some one I trade a Holy kiss, hugg, hand shake any day!!! We have had people going thue treatment and they procet them self with a mask etc, and as for babys my when to church and passed around at 3 day old The Lord watched over them and they were really never sick as babies or children, the more we can immund are self the easier it will be latter to fight off the grems. well Bridgitt I would have to agree that hugs are great just dont know of a lot of people who also agree. Many churches seem to follow the pastors opinion on the issue if he is not a hugger then the congregation is less likely to. Have never actually seen holy kiss in church either. Have however ended up being kissed on lips by sisters I would not otherwise ever thought of kissin. As an introvert I dont much mind the shaking hands and hugging too much as long as the hugs arent taken wrong way.
