in "section 4" (of the "above mentioned" "Creation Movie".......it says God made 2 "great lights".....
that got me "scratching my head"....and wondering WHAT are they talkin' about....obviously one is the Sun.....the other???
And, if that's even in scripture?????

i THINK that's what they are referring to, as well....
BUT, the moon? The moon isn't a "light".....It's just an object that is illuminated by the Sun....

I don't really see how a "light" is any different from a "light source." If you went to Home Depot and told the guy in the electrical department you wanted to buy a light, you be a bit confused if he handed you a softball. As a light-colored orb, it reflects ambient light in the same way that the moon does.
That said, as a reflector, the moon can function as navigational aid and as a dim light source. My earlier use of the word "figurative" may not have been the best choice of language; "non-literal" would have been better. This is a good example of how it's possible to infer too much (incorrect) scientific information from a passage that was intended to convey something else. Scientifically speaking, the moon is no more a light than a softball or a chair. For some practical purposes, however, the moon can function as a light.

My son was trying to reflect light off his pocketknife in church yesterday and shine it in people's eyes. (Yeah, I took it away from him!)  I'm sure to the people who got the bright light in their eyes, they weren't concerned whether or not it was reflected light or a source of light. Bright light in your eyes hurts, no matter where it comes from.

Oh, you should take the kids. It's very kid-friendly, and they would enjoy it.  My 3-year old son was afraid of the dinosaur that moved and growled, though.

That right there would be the main reason I couldn't take my kids. They're petrified of any electronic toys that move on their own. Can't remember what the actual term is.

Hey me too! I haven't been either but neighbors took their three kiddos..ages 10, 7 and 4. They liked the dinosaurs and the planetarium but didn't have much interest in the rest..too much reading. My neighbors suggest that families with young kids ( obviously this only works if you are local...kinda like celebrating the first day of summer with Graeter's.... ) make two separate visits. One for/with the kids and one just for the adults so they can really spend the time to read and take it all in....especially if you are really interested in the topic.

I wish we could have done that. I'm a reader, and I wanted to go slowly and read everything, but my husband and kids kept hurrying me along. I'd have to alone, though, if I wanted to see everything. It's a four-hour trip for us, though, so even though we can get in free as a Sr. Pastor and wife, the drive is too long to able to do it very often.

Two trips is a good idea-- Adults first so that we can pick out the points of interest. My kids are very familiar with the story and my husband has some real questions about their conclusions-- age of the earth and all that.
Honestly, I don't care if a day is as a thousand years... it doesn't make a difference to me how God chose to create the earth as we know it. I see all the proof I need as I see His hand in my daily life. What happened a million or a billion or however many years ago isn't a big question for me, though I do realize that it is important to many. Frankly, I felt the same way about the DaVinci Code. His relationship to any of those close to Him on Earth doesn't change the fact that he died for me and my sin-- that I am unworthy on my own and He first loved me.
Go ahead, call me ignorant... My college group leaders were a professor of philosophy and a professor of logic. It drove them crazy that I didn't wrestle with these sorts of questions. My opinion is simply that this life is short and we'll find out soon enough!

Is the Glen Rose museum still in business? I know it used to sit right near the entrance of the Dinosaur Valley State Park. I went to the park and museum as a kid, but when we went back there last year, the museum was gone. At least, I didn't see it anywhere.

Went to the Worlds Biggest Dinosaurs and the guy in the gift shop was handing out free dvd's of Dr. Kent Hovind's lecture on Dinosaurs in the Bible. I haven't had a chance to watch it through but the few minutes looked good. And it sure was nice to give me a copy at no cost too. I think these guys are doing a tremendous job in trying to reach the masses. The guy running the cash register told me that everyone working the store was a volunteer. Wow...

Even the YEC community considers "Dr" Hovind to be about as reliable a source on science as "Dr" Baugh. He's a quack, too.
