Got my first taste of Dylan today. "Highway 61 Revisited". Interesting. I don't think I'll ever be a big fan but I'm glad I bought it. I listened to it all the way through.

I also bought the debut CD from a friend's band called My Brothers Scars. The CD is entitled "Neverending". They are Christians and they are from the old school of Petra, Rez Band, Degarmo & Key and others in that its as much a ministry as a band. Its funny hearing a voice come through my speakers that I've hung out and watched football with and gone to church with since he was in middle school. They have a modern rock sound. The band that came to mind in parts was Three Days Grace but they have other influences also. I didn't catch them all on my first listen. Its well produced for an indie effort. For more info go to www.mybrothersscars.net

Sorry for the ad but they are my buds and I did listen to them today.

Today its Theatre of Tragedy's Storm and Assembly albums. Their newer stuff maybe a bit more pop than I usually listen to, but it has the 80's feel to it which is always fine with me . :)

Now its Helloween's The Dark Ride album. I don't care what anyone says, Andi Deris is a talented singer and song writer and does the older songs justice.

Well I say that Andi Deris is an untalented singer and song writer and does a grave injustice to the older songs!!!

I'm just kidding. Deris is a great singer. BTW: a friend of mine and I were debating Kiske vs Deris, he said Deris I called it a tie if not slight advantage Deris. For me personally the Helloween sound is epitomized in the two original Keeper CDs. I like their newer stuff (like Keeper 3 and Dark Ride) but not quite enough to buy it though I was considering Keeper 3 at one point as it was good stuff.

In honor of the Southern Rock Appreciation thread, I'm listening to Little Feat's "Down Upon The Suwannee River" live album. While not on a par with "Waiting for Columbus", it's a pretty decent document of the band in their current incarnation. Not bad.

I would agree that Helloween at their peak was Keepers 1 and 2. However, in the song writing edge I would have to give that to Deris because all the powerful songs that were on the later albums were all written by Deris.

I remember the first time I heard The Departed from The Dark Ride and loved that song so much that I rushed out and bought the album. Keeper pt3 I got that one the day it came out and thought it was an excellent closer to the saga. However, there maybe some personal bias in this one after reading Kiske's more recent comments about metal. Then seeing him still sig metal with Edguy(though I love that band to) It jus seemed rather hypocritical.

A little here, a little there today.

George Harrison - the song "What Is Life"
Seventh Avenue - a couple of songs from 'Terium". I highly recommend them as a modern Christian band (strong Christian influence) that does the 80s style metal with the modern updates.
Blind Guardian - a few from "A Night at the Opera" including the last epic song (And Then There Was Silence"???).

And more of My Brothers Scars, the local band I mentioned yesterday.

Today it was a healthy mix of Nightwish's Dark Passion Play and Children of Bodom's Follow The Reaper. A nice pre-celebration before both bands come to town. I can't wait.

first Children of Bodom, then the week after Nightwish, then another week later Iced Earth. Yeah\m/

Hadn't heard of "Narita" but "Fire Down Under" yes though I think the band went through some big changes from then to "Thundersteel", which is a 1988 release.

Riot does have an album called Narita. We have the vinyl still.

I loved their early stuff and I have been looking for them on CD.

What would you call that creature on the cover? It lood like part owl or part gerbil? Oh well, I'll take bad cover art over bad music any day!

BTW, I am listening to Savatage - Sirens

It looks like it's either the head of a mouse or a gerbil with the body of a sumo wrestler. He's holding a long blade and in the background there is an airplane flying.

Picked up "Fire Down Under" and "Restless Breed" at the record store. I forgot how good the band was. Cheesy lyrics but great r n r! I think this band could've made it bigger with more exposure (and better cover art)!

Listening to Savtage "The Dungeons are Calling"

Yngwie was one of those guitarists that I feel is top of his game in technical proficiency but is a mediocre songwriter, IMHO.

I actually saw him on the Hollywood strip in the 80's with his band "Steeler". His ability on the guitar blew me away but his music sounded all the same to me and after a few of his solo albums, I moved on since I had too much of a feeling that I had heard all these songs before.

I will give him this, the man knows his way around a fretboard and I will give him the credit of the fastest guitarist I've ever seen!

Was listening to some Simple Minds earlier this morning on Napster.

I listen to my Collective Soul cds this morning while I was getting ready for work. I saw them in concert last April and it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. They sound exactly like they do on their cds and their interaction with the audience was wonderful. Now every time I hear them I think of that concert.

Mapachito: Thats the beauty of music. There is always something out there for people. I wish I could have seen him live. He is probably one of my favorite guitar players. What really bums me out is the state of music in the United States, all the bands that I am really into barely tour here anymore. Its times like that I wish I lived in Europe. Then their tax rates snaps me back to reality.

Giggles: Thats how I feel when I listen to Nightwish's Dark Passion Play album. When I got to see them, the atmosphere was just perfect and the loudest crowd ovation I have ever heard.
