Lisa, why do you have a brace? Did I miss something?

Zoebob, I hear you on the new schedule thing. I haven't slept in since Brian's accident...too much to be done early in the morning now. I used to sleep until at least 8 when Noah didn't have school. Now, by 8, it feels like it should be noon.

Uh oh... we are in non-complience. Again. Silly us, we started our school year three weeks ago. We really meant to do the notification, but, hey, it's not due until the first day of school. YIKES!!! That was yesterday! So we got all our paperwork together. Dh rushed up to Kinko's to copy off test results. Only to discover... he copied '07 results... Ops... So it will be in the mail tomorrow.

Here's the thing with notification--we have to list the books we intend to use. Guess what? Generally that's not what we end up using! What a waste of time! So this year, we jsut went back and cut/pasted from years past. Modified ds1's. So basically we'er submitting the same stuff every year. They've yet to call us on it. I 'spose their test results speak for themselves?!

His, you're really not in non-compliance, because Ohio's homeschool law doesn't have a date by which your notification must be turned in. Most people turn it in before school starts so that their kids won't be considered truant, but they can't get you because you didn't turn it in by a certain date . . . unlike PA, which has a hard date of August first. I missed it by 2 weeks. Fortunately they didn't seem to mind.

We have not sent in our notification yet. But school just started on Monday. I do not have the forms, and won't get them until next week. We are starting school on Tuesday. Hopefully I will get them all in on time.
I watched the kids here (Cincy) get on the bus this morning... at 7am! Man, is that early! We slept in (I woke up after 9:30!). Summer lazy schedule is almost over. LOL

It's really interesting the difference in start times between the private school I work at and the PS. I do extended care in the AM. I leave the school at about 8:15 as they are in homeroom. First period is at about 8;30 when I am pulling on to my street. 2 blocks from my house the kids for PS are just getting on the bus.

Donna, I am having ligament problems that stem from when I used to hike in the adirondacks as a child. I had forgotten how much that HURTS. I can't even find a comfortable position right now. It is better in the morning. It has been 20 years since I have had it looked at last. I should think that maybe there is more that can be done now. when I was 11, my doctor said that I was lucky that my ligament didn't tear because there wasn't any fixing it back then and I would have been in a wealchair. They have been fixing torn ligament for years now. Surely there must be something they can do for a ligament that isn't even torn. I just got to find the time to get it looked at.

I will say one thing that is positive about Oregon's homeschooling laws is that you only need to notify once and that's it, unless you put your child back in school and then take them out again.

Ez,

I tried to PM you about maybe running across each other's paths somehow, but your mailbox is full.

Ever get anywhere near Vass?

Mmmm I am guessing that the PM storage limits went down. I had 25 pages of received and 16 pages of sent and it took me deleting all but a total of THREE PAGES to get the silly thing to say I had room in the box.

as for the location mentioned- I am not sure where Vass is. I am thinking south east... around ft. Bragg??? tired and going to bed now(after all that hard work deleting every PM I ever got since 2006)

I will be going with dh to the Endicott/Binghamton area and will be there for at least a week, possibly two.

Well, now that I have a car . . . ROAD TRIP!!!!!

Seriously, it all depends on the timing, but I'd take a run up if I can.

I should be able to give enough notice, as if I go, I hope to be there two weeks. It would be great to see you too.

I should get my notice to the school distruct in too. I will probably do it on Friday, after my mother gets home after two months at my sister's.

sorry...kids started going crazy so I had to get them settled, then Jack went to bed, and since the computer is still in his room I couldn't get back on.

Same here Sarah! In fact, I tease that if it weren't for dh being military & taxes the gov't wouldn't know that our kids exist! (Well I guess birth certificates & ss cards too)! Whenever we move, I'm going to have to have you all remind me that I need to notify & turn stuff in!

I got my newsletter finished. I just have to wait until it's a decent time to call & ask a question of our field trip person, before I can send it. The price for a field trip is listed as one amount in the text of the article & then a different amount on the form to send in. I'm pretty sure I know which one is wrong, but you know what they say about assuming!

My computer is still running, but we didn't turn it off last night. It is making a lot more noise than usual. Dh will hopefully have time to look at it tonight or tomorrow night!

We have a field trip to the Art Museum this morning & then dd is going to her friend's house to spend the night! I'm hoping the quiet afternoon around here will give me time to get some things done!!

That reminds me, I still need to send in an updated immunization record. The one "in charge" of the homeschoolers here is very pushy about that, she said they get audited on it.

I woke up this morning and thought Noah had messed with our clock because it is SOOOO dark here!!! It has rained, which we really needed!!!!

I don't know why, but mornings are such a battle around here! I wake up the kids, probably not early enough, they wake up irritating each other, and then they start fighting with each other, then they start complaining to me about things. 6 yr old is getting picked on, so she starts yelling, too and her voice is ear piercing. It sends me off in crabby mode.

Maybe I need to wake one kid up at a time!

thats why we choose to let the kids get up on their own...then we all kind of get through the morning with glazed over looks on our faces. We are SOOOOOOO not morning people...lol. that's really one of the big reason we still hs

Good morning all!

Well, as far as mornings go, we all get up at a set time NOW, because my son is older and needs the discipline in their daily habits. Plus our neighbor child joins us at 8:30, and we want to be ready to get started when he walks in the door.

(Funny story: I guess he was a few minutes later than planned today because his mom called to excuse him for being tardy- LOL! This relaxed schooling is going to take a while to sink in I guess.)

But when they were elementary, we just sort of got up as we willed. It would wind up somewhere between eight or nine usually. And they never had a set bedtime either. One of us adults would decide it was time for devotions/story and then it was straight to bed after that. So we had a routine, but never a set time.

It kind of still works that way, actually! LOL My sweet daughter at college admits that she and her roomie have a hard time getting to bed early.

Some things don't change easy....

I wish that my kids knew how to sleep in. Dd has to have been up really, really late the night before in order for her to sleep in until 8. Ds, can be awake until midnight and still wake up at 7AM. They've always been early risers and it's probably when they are at their happiest.

Mine, too. Although lately we have gotten terribly lazy and have no routine, no bedtime, no rising time. I really want at least some loose structure once we start school!

we have a set bed time, and don't let the kids (esp Jake) sleep in too much past 9...otherwise it gets too late at night. Paul has to be up before the crack of dawn (4:30) so he goes to bed at 10...if the kids didn't have a bed time we wouldn't have any down time. As it stands now, the girls and Jack are in bed by 9 (preferably 8:30...it has crept to 9 and I don't like it cause they get too crazy and whiny). Jake can't go to bed til Jack is asleep, but he does stuff quietly. Most nights he goes to bed between 10 and 11. He doesn't need as much sleep as even me, so we are lax with his bed time....he rarely actually goes to sleep before 12 or 1am....just lays there in bed being bored (that's why we let him stay up later doing stuff at the table). He has always been like that....even as a baby...and no matter how much we have tried to change his natural sleep schedule, it hasn't worked. So we finally gave up and just go with it.

pbs has a new show coming soon that the kids can't wait for...it's called Sid The Science Kid

Joe used to be like that, but once he hit 14, he started sleeping in. I'm shooting for him to be up by 8:30 so we can exercise, shower and start the rest of school by 9:30.

We kept the kids going to bed at their bedtimes through the summer. If we didn't, we'd have no downtime, and Dh would probably just go nuts because our kids are constant talkers.
