We are home. Got back to my parents' house at 7 and are home and have eaten dinner. Still need to unpack the car though

Thanks all! But, I can't claim the photos. Seems I'm in several of 'em... Ellie-Mae took the photos AND posted 'em for me.

We went to the State Fair today. It went pretty well, although eveyone is still tired from FOT. The kids have chores in the morning, but since we were gone all week, they shouldn't have much to do.

I told my kids they could sleep pretty much as much as they want tomorrow. They are happy to be home.

Glad that everyone had safe journeys to and from FOT. It sounds like a great time was had by all!! How wonderful that you could visit Donna!!

DS starts Jr. High in a week. Sigh... Time moves too quickly. Please pray for both of us...this will be a truly "unique" experience. He will change classes 6 or 7 times a day and he will attend chapel 4 days per week. He did make it into handbell choir so I am looking forward to those performances.

I hope that all of you have wonderful homeschool years!!!!

Julia, It is so good that your son is in a good environment. It will be odd to switch classes, but I remember really liking that. It was more interesting going from class to class.

I had some friends over for a homeschool planning meeting today. It went well. I love for my friends to meet each other. Each of them is so different from one another, but then had things in common as well. It was really nice.

Merv and Joe are going to help Merv's brother replace the roof on his house. It's only a one story, but prayers for safety would be nice.

Warning, Frustrated Post Below!

I need to win the lottery. I am having serious problems with not having any money, and having to find a job even though I still feel like I belong at home. There are things Nate wants-things he should have, things that would be so good for him-that I cannot buy. And if I have a job and the money to buy them, I will have no time to use them with him. I am sick and tired of this, and I am sick and tired of going to bed alone every night, with no one to talk to, and no one who takes care of me, and no one to hug.

Thank you.

Their is a lecture and star-gazing tonight and I am sure Nate would want to go if he knew, but I am so crabby that I have no idea if I am up to it, so I haven't told him.

I should really get showered and dressed. I am such a bum these days.

Thank you.

I suppose if I got dressed and got the dishes washed, I would feel a bit better.

Has anyone else's kids read the Nathan T Riggins series? Nate was in the used bookstore with me when we were shopping with Schuy and her mom (who can't keep Schuy in books! LOL) and he looked up and saw his name. The book looked good, so we bought it. Later I realized that it was a Christian book and that I had read some by that author--Nate really liked it, it was the last 3 books in the series (they didn't have the first three). So now he wants the first 3-in-1 set, and I am having trouble finding it. The library doesn't have it, and they range from $4 to $200 used online! And those with the affordable prices don't have great sellers' scores.

Also, I am wondering if Stephen Bly wrote any other books a nearly 13-yo boy might be interested in. It was the first time in a long time that he read fiction that wasn't either Calvin and Hobbes, Nancy drew, or some space adventure.

Our library is trying to interlibrary loan that book. Nate is sitting here going, 'no, if they are worth that much, we should buy it!' LOL

If I win the lottery, I will share it with you! Although since I don't buy tickets, you probably shouldn't hold your breath. I will keep praying that God will send someone to hug you and take care of you. I know that this won't make you feel any better at all, but some of us who are married don't have anyone to hug and take care of us either, so I do understand how frustrating it gets.

I will have to look for those books for Jesse - I can't keep him in books either!

Speaking of books, which leads me to reading . . . Brandon seems to be making some progress with sight reading. I am hopefully optimistic that this might work for him. Right now we are working with some flashcards that have words and pictures, and he's doing pretty well, certainly better than he's done with a strictly phonetic approach.

And also speaking of Brandon, his EMG was normal. That means he is unlikely to have a brain tumor, which is always a good thing. He will have an MRI of his neck as soon as we can get it scheduled.

I'm glad the test was normal, Cindy! Do you have an explanation for the tremors yet?

With a normal EMG the most likely explanation is something pinched in his neck. It's probably pretty high up since both sides are affected. The MRI will hopefully give us a better picture. Once we have the films, I'm gonna take him to see my chiropractor. The neurologist is fine with that idea and is happy to work with him to help Brandon. We will only consult the neurosurgeon if absolutely necessary.

Nate and I got our errands run. A bra and school supplies at Shopko, and kitty litter and TP at Cosco...also, a DK-Smithsonian book. We had a really hard time choosing only one book--there were about seven that we'd have liked to buy, but they were fifteen dollars or more each. However, if any of you are hitting Cosco soon, these are huge books in the DK style with absolutely fantastic pictures and tons of info. We got Universe but we also saw Animals, Earth, Oceans, Flight and a giant book on human anatomy.

I didn't want to see people today and it's a weekend so it was hard, but I did it! I've been meaning to run those errands for days.

The newspaper and the astronomy club are having a lecture and viewing tonight and I am taking Nate and Li'l Sis. They make a pretty good traveling pair these days. I do have to drive about 20 miles out of town, but that's a benefit-we'll have less city light to deal with. The viewing area is on the nuclear reservation.

While chatting with my stepmom about tonight, she mentioned that my middle brother still hasn't claimed his telescope, so she's going to ask him if we can have it, since Nate loves astronomy.

That would be really great for Nate to have the telescope. I hope your brother gives it to Nate.

I picked zucchini out of my garden today. It is growing amazingly fast. I didn't want to pick it yesterday, because we had cabbage in the fridge and I don't want it to go to waste. They didn't seem that big yesterday. I can't believe how fast they grow. I hope they keep coming and we continue to get them through next month. I see more smaller ones in there and some more blossoms. We also have a lot of tomatoes, but they seem to be growing very slowly. The plants are absolutely huge, but the tomatoes seem to take forever.

Zucchini - the nuclear vegetable. Do not plant unless you have lots of friends, or chickens.

I have four plants, plus four yellow squash plants. I have to say that I could eat it every single day for life, but my family may not agree.

Mine definitely wouldn't agree, hence the chickens.

Clearly not everyone understands what is good for them. Some of us, however, do.
