Oh Kathy, so sorry about the reaction. I hate going on steroids and I have to do that for asthma every winter. They are just not good. Donna, how are you and your family doing?

Donna, how are you and your family doing? We're doing. He's a little better every day. Did really, really well with pain yesterday...only three doses of pain meds! And that was with being out of the house all morning too!

Thanks! He can't even start physical therapy until at least October because he can't put weight on his leg until then. That'll be 10 weeks since the accident. So...a long road ahead, but I'm glad he's here to walk it with us!

Donna, I am glad you can take this in stride. I would be a wreck. When my husband was sick, it was a bit different because it was an illness, but it did have him with three hospital stays, two surgeries, and all between Thanksgiving and Christmas while I had Kali who was just a baby. I didn't handle it too well. Kathy, I know what you mean about your family not understanding. Steve works in IL and we live in WI and not right over the boarder and we have talked about him using the extend a stay hotels when gas prices went up so much because it was actually cheaper for us to do that. It is like just because you aren't together 24/7, you are on the verge of divorce. Personally, I like the idea of being married, but having some time alone once in a while or more. But that is just me. If Steve were gone now, he would come home to a whole different house. I tend to do things better when he is gone.

Okay ladies...seems like the rain is slowing down? *hoping I didn't jinx it!* Keep praying it stops!! LOLOL!! quote:
ORIGINAL: Kath He's been staying at the rental house, fixing the chimney, so he hasn't seen it yet. He's come home a few times but he's basically been living there for a month now. I've had to explain to my family, they just don't seem to understand for some reason, that we are not having troubles or anything but it's an hour and a half round trip from work to home, and the house is by his work, so he's just staying there. It doesn't make much sense for him to drive that much just to sleep here. He'd lose either a lot of working on the house time or sleep time. Ahhh yes...families are weird that way, like Tracey said. My friend and her husband went through the same thing. People were praying for them left and right and when he ended up back at the house they thought they were back together. quote:

I am sorry because this totally has nothing to do with couples, but more with misconception. I was just thinking about something that happened a few years ago when you said that. I had to go to the doc one day and you know they always ask you what your occupation is. So when she asked me, I said "family daycare" I run a daycare in my home. So she thought (rather than ask for clarification) that I was just a SAHM trying to make myself feel justified so she changed my occupation from Family Daycare to Domestic Engineering. Ok, so I am watching this and this woman was so proud of herself that she actually looked at the screen and said "That looks better" in a very satisfied voice. I didn't say anything to her because I didn't want to make her feel bad since she was obviously so proud of what she did for me but people praying for something before actually asking if they need to be praying for THAT specific thing made me think of this woman. Don't ask why, but had to share.

I am in Western PA. I work with an engineer that lives in New York, on that lives in Fla, and an inspector that lives in West Virginia. They stay in cheap apartments or long-term hotel rooms. The one who is in FLA is different but the ones who live closer either work 4-10hr days or long enough to leave early. I never think about the strength of their marriage because it is normal for them. My hair gets oily enough that it HAS to be up the second day but I time it to work with the times I need to go into the plant. Pinned hair works well with a hard hat.

I'm glad you had a good party Tinkerbell! Families are funny; once I went to the family Easter gathering without hubby because he was working. I don't think they believed me that he was working, well some of them. I need to write a note to my son's teacher. He had to pick and define ten words out of two chapters of a book for an assignment. Ten words he didn't already know the definition of. So he had a lot of trouble since he already knew what most of the words meant. But he didn't feel like the teacher believed him about that. He's not off to such a great start. Dee

ORIGINAL: Kath Except for Florida, I've never been further east than Illinois. Illinois? What is so special there? That is where my DH's son lives. I love Chicago. Tink, glad your party was fun. I have never had a birthday party. Well, not in my adult life at least. I got an e:mail from my exchange student's mom today. She seemed nice, but you could kind of tell she was given tips on what to write. It sounded a bit like a rehearsed letter. But she did tell us a bit about him and how he is not as interested in studying as he is in basketball. So I am glad that there will be no basketball until he has been here a while and established a routine. She also said that he could cook a few traditional dishes for us and do laundry. He will have chores just like the other kids. They are happy because now the chores are divided 4 ways. LOL. Anyway, I did talk with the people who own our favorite Chinese resturaunt about him and they said that if we have a problem with getting him to eat, they would help out and cook for him to fill in the gaps. And then they told us that it would not be things that are on the menu. We already knew that though. Chinese people don't eat what we eat in their resturaunts. But it sure is yummy! I hope you all had a good weekend. We went to church today and in class, we were split into two groups and had to debate on this statement. "The Old Testiment has many excellant models of families" It would have been easy if they had said ROLE models, but they just said models, so in the end, we were all right. But DH and I ended up on opposite sides. It was kind of neat to debate against him. I love our classes. They are almost better than church.

Yes, it's frustrating when their abilities are questioned. Tracy, I'm glad you got a little more info about your student! Dee
