Brothers, I like the forum site and have been here a spell, and have a question, and maybe the beginning of a concern, and I ask all of you for your views on this. I definitely see fellowship and potential for great ministry here.
I also go to some threads and see that many have been diverted, and a large majority of the diverted discussions have been done by what appear to be female administrators.
Would someone explain what the diverting of threads is all about by their understanding?
Are there male administrators?

Also, what is the member designation all about IE New member, Junior Member, Regular Member, Senior Member?

My wife was considering joining the forums, but I want to know as much as I can about the whole system and all the particulars

Speaking as one of the male moderators, we move discussions iwhen they would be a better fit in another folder. At this time, there are more female moderators than male, which is why it appears that most of the moved threads are made by the female mods.

The member designation is determined by the number of posts a particular member has.

Welcome and I hope your wife ends up joining. This really is a nice, safe place to be. [:D]

revbob - welcome. the designations are just by how many posts (replies) that one creates. as the number goes higher, titles change at different levels. it's just something for fun. i have no idea about reason for female moderators as i don't know them personally but perhaps there are more women who are very active posters for whatever reason such as stay at home mom they just can't get enough of crosswalk :) in terms of diverting discussion on some topics such as discussing remarriage, any mod will do that. there's just some topics that are forbidden from discussion except in certain context.

Thank you Brother. Sylvia has a lot of very good ideas and views, and we have had quite a bit of life behind us, and God Willing, many years to come. I just needed to hear its safe for her. We are relatively new to the internet and I sometimes come off as a very overvigilant one, but Sylvia has a very gentle spirit and she wants to help everyone. My daughter Deborah is also like that but she can sometimes be misunderstood because she is often too plain spoken.

Hi revbob,

The diversion of threads is usually when members take the thread off topic as an effort to get everyone back on track. Other times, there is already a thread for the specific topic and the thread is diverted to avoid redundency.

There are more female than male administrators, which is probably why you have noticed more female administrators diverting the threads. Although most exercise good judgement (IMO), sometimes I feel that some conversations aren't developed enough in some threads before they are cancelled or diverted. I don't see this as a gender issue though...just the moderators erring on the side of caution. Annoying sometimes, but a better problem than allowing abuse or excessive re-hashing of another thread leading to confusion of which thread to post in.

revbob4God -> RE: Id like this to start off in Men Only (7/30/2008 2:08:30 PM)

Thank you Brother. I had first thought the female moderators may be moving things too fast, as there were several threads I felt I needed to respond in, however when I got to quite a few, they had been moved. It was a little annoying. I do not always have time to visit daily or for long periods of time.

There are many more female moderators than male moderators. I personally wish the female moderators would let the male moderators moderate the men's threads. But I suspect that's not going to happen. You must remember that while only males can post in the Men Only threads, everyone can browse in them, therefore your posting in the Men's threads may not be as safe as you think.

APZR -> RE: Id like this to start off in Men Only (7/30/2008 10:19:15 PM)

Mens folder or not... NOTHING posted on the net is as safe as you think. In doing research for my job, I've found many old internet post archived in back corners long forgotten. If you post it, it will be out there for all for ever.

Haven't been here long enough to notice these concerns, rev. I'll follow the thread, though.

You're right. I've seen several of my posts when I google my ID. It's all public.

I feel uneasy with it because you never know. I am thinking my wife may want to participate in some of the forums, but I am very guarded because if someone redirected a thread on her, it would upset her and since you are not supposed to discuss actions, my only worry is that sometimes, if people do not have to explain their actions, actions can sometimes become arbitrary and personal hurts can ensue. (Case in point, a wannabe deacons wife and VBS napkins.) I really do not know what I would do if a situation arose where I felt compelled to defend Sylvia and couldn't.
One of the male moderators told me there are more women moderators than men moderators, and I thought perhaps I should bring this up. While I have a congregation and a host of issues that often keep me from being here,, I also know I could not devote the time to becoming a moderator at this time, who knows, maybe later. But if any of you all would be willing, it may be an answer. And by the way, what is the Croswalk?
I should tell you Sylvia has suggested I should think about being a part time moderator.

revbob4God -> RE: Id like this to start off in Men Only (7/31/2008 10:19:15 AM)

I now get the concept of Crosswalk. Good idea. I will mention it to my wife.

stamper_ben -> RE: Id like this to start off in Men Only (7/31/2008 11:39:48 AM)

RevBob, I have been a member of these forums for over eight years now. I can't really even remember not being a part of this group. Many of the moderators I have had contact with through this site (in one version or another) over the years are indeed God's children, both the men and women. The mods in turn are under the earthly direction of Fritz, the administrator in charge. He too I have known for all these years.

I trust these people, the members and the moderators. I know and feel the love of Jesus through them. I have shared things here that I haven't shared with my own blood brother. These people are my family, I am just getting to know them before we end up in front of the throne to spend eternity in His presence.

Are there times when I don't wholeheartedly agree with some of the decisions made here? Yes, there are. But there are the Terms of Service we agree to when we sign up to belong to this community, and I believe they are prayerfully and faithfully adhered to by the ones who make the decisions.

Enjoy your time here Bob. Encourage your wife to join. I love to see the banter of the few married couples that do post here. It can be safe, loving and then of course there are those folders where it is challenging. I can never envision not posting here.

revbob4God -> RE: Id like this to start off in Men Only (7/31/2008 1:22:53 PM)

Thank you brother from the Lone Star State. I am relatively new to the internet, and I know I have already seen some of the folders where I would likely not want Sylvia to go, thankfully they are in men only. As soon as I finish a sermon on Power Point, I will likely turn this laptop over to her and then when she feels ready and inclined, we will likely hear from Sylvia. Mind you, She is a beautiful christian and a model of motherhood imho but she can and I do mean CAN be a psitol.

stamper_ben -> RE: Id like this to start off in Men Only (7/31/2008 2:02:08 PM)

A great place to get to know people here is in the Community Lounge folder, especially the Personally For You sub-folder. That's where I spend most of my time anyway.

You're just saying that cuz it's true.
