catlady11 -> Getting Married - Need Some Scripture (7/30/2008 11:11:48 AM)

Hello everyone. I'm getting married in 9 days and would like some suggestions about verses that can be used during the ceremony (besides 1 Corinthians 13). Thanks!

Here's some other parts you might want to pick from

1 John 4:16-21

Ephesians 5: 22-33

Ruth 1:16
'...Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.'

We incorporated this passage in my vow to him. Of course, we're both Christians, however, it was a statement expressing him as being my head, as Christ is the head. You know symbolically as a sign off of leaving and cleaving. That I will follow him for he follows Christ. No one outside our marriage will direct ... not in-laws, sisters, girl friends, public... popular opinions. That I honor my husband head of the household.

YZGUY,

That is pretty funny especially since we are both in recovery (drugs/alcohol).

Hey, sorry. That is what I get for assuming. Anyway, who is your god... drugs/alcohol. If neither of you have a relationship with the Lord Jesus, then reconsider walking down the aisle. Without help, meaning the Lord leading both of you unto the path of Love, Mercy, Grace... His Way, I don't know how you'll overcome the trails that come with marriage. Especially, if you're recovering from substance abusive... recovering from sin of pride and selfishness is tough enough.

So allow the Lord to love you both to healing and restoration first, so that you can help walk one another stay the course in His Grace.

Listen to me, I say this with all encouragement, this is not an antiquated jewish idiology or anything of that sort, this is new testament marriage fundementals that are essential to a christian marriage. My wife heard the word "submission", and closed her mind. It is voluntary and holy submission, not "do it or else i'll beat ya."

Spirit-Guided Relationships: Wives and Husbands
21 And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
22 For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23 For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. 24 As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything.
25 For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her 26 to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word.* 27 He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. 28 In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. 29 No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church. 30 And we are members of his body.
31 As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.”* 32 This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one. 33 So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

YZGUY,

Alcohol/Drugs is NO LONGER our idol. We serve our Lord Christ Jesus. The Lord has healed us from our substance abuse. We would never have considered getting married if we or one of us were still using. We thank the Lord everyday for the wonderful work He has done in our lives. Just thought there was a lot of humor in the scripture although you had no idea about our situation.

Joeysei,

I am a Jewish born again Christian so I can certainly understand Jewish ideology.
