I purchased the Sporting News football preview and they are predicting SD Chargers in the Super Bowl. This would make my seven year old happy since he's a huge Chargers fan. (For whatever reason a seven year old chooses a favorite team.)

Who do you think will go all the way this year?

BTW, this thread is also to talk about all things football as well. One of the greatest sports known to humankind! (Hockey is the other one!)

Depending on how things turn out with\for Gates' toe and putting LT's knee to the test.

Can't count the Pats out yet.

My 11 year old would love to see Favre come back and so would his friends and their family.

As for the Pats.... Is hate too strong a word?[;)]

I know when I was 9 I became a Steeler fan because I took all the money I had at the time and bet on them. Everyone hated Pittsburgh since I'm in NE Ohio and were sick and tired of the dynasty. It may have been $5 of change and such but $5 more on top of that at 9 was a fortune.

I think Green Bay should stick with Rodgers. This could be the first year since 1989-1990 that the Browns start the season better than Pittsburgh. New England will win 13 games and beat San Diego in the Championship game. I don't have a favourite for the NFC right now but I would probably pick Seattle. New England will beat Seattle by 3 in the Super Bowl which I think is a safe pick because NE always wins or loses the SB by 3.

I know he's the future, but sports like business is so current results oriented. So for (just) the upcoming season, I think they'd do better behind Favre.

First, let me preface this by saying I am a huge Colts fan. I grew up in Indy (although I live in FL now) and not one of those fair weather fans, I have followed them since their move in 84, before that I was too young to care about football.

Anyways, I can't stand the Patriots, although, I don't know if it is the organization or their fans. I am a member of Fox Sports Online and man! Some of their fans are donwright crude and evil. (I have found some decent ones but they are far less than the others.)

Packers should keep Favre, AND BENCH HIM. Don't even let him dress for the games. I used to admire Favre, and back in the days I lived in Wisconsin, they were in the super bowl. He has tarnished himself and his legacy, I think, permantley as far as I'm concerned.

Then, as far as SB predict. are concerned, This is a tough call this year. I don't know who from the NFC and, sorry Eli (and COW451), the Giants were an anomoly so I doubt they go back. I would have to say that the big "D" is a strong possiblility and then maybe the Vikings (hey someone has to represent the NFC) or Seattle, although I think Seattle's days are numbered especially with the exit and release of Shaun Alexander.

However, the AFC is too close to call. If my Colts are going to make another run at it, this looks to be the last of their chances. Manning is getting old, I believe this will be Harrisons last year and injury prone Bob Sanders will be devastatingly injured this year and will have to end his career (now there is a prediction for you) Dwight Freeny won't be the same with his foot injury and this may be his last opportunity as well, so that leaves San Diego and N.E. and of those two choices, I will take San Diego. Although I don't believe in Norm Turner at all.

All I know is at this point I chomping at the bit for football to start so BRING IT ON BOYS!

I think the Saints and the Chargers will meet in the superbowl...

the Saints solidified there defense somewhat in the offseason, and of course they have a very potent offense (even adding Shockey), so they are my sleeper to go some distance.

i am picking the Chargers to win it, because they have the easy schedule (especially for LT2) and post-season experience....they are hungry and well-developed...I am also picking them to win the Superbowl.

I am a huge cowboys fan, and I don't know why we signed Pacman, but I still think we will be one of the teams to beat. if he plays and stays out of trouble, that only helps our 2ndary. also with MB III getting the work load, and having the rookie come in to spell him, we should be okay at RB. our weak point is our receivers and 2ndary, SS to be exact. I love Roy since he played at OU, but he is losing a step and is not a great cover safety.

No argument here. Anybody that beats the Evil Empire gets my vote. Colts or Chargers vs Saints or Cowboys, IMHO. I was a Colts fan back in Johnny U and Bert Jones days. They deserved the shellacking those first years in INDY. But I forgave them and have been back on board in the Manning era.

Even though I am a Steelers fan, I don't see them going that far this year, sadly. And I would have to agree with the Saints this year. They just look really really solid.

I can't believe, I'm saying this, but also a good team to watch out for this year is the Browns. I think they had a tremendous off-season of trading/drafting and I really see them as a "heavy" competitor this year.

And for the NFC...does it even exist anymore?!?! haha

I'm an EAGLES FAN, but at this point, I don't even care about any specific team! I am just estatic that I will be able to see players of all team on the field playing football on tv this friday, cause preseason starts on the 8th! WHoo! HOOOO!

Maybe the deserved the "schellacking" and believe me, they got it too. It was tought to remain faithful, but thankfully I stuck with them. Where I grew up, the only other team in the "area" would have been the Bengals. And we all know how that has turned out. Thank goodness the Colts moved to Indy!

Being a Pats fan I can vouch for some of the Boston fans being toxic. Some of them wanted to fire Doc Rivers during the Celtics playoff run (or more accurately, were calling for it to be done, presumably after their elimination from the playoffs). They also have this "media is all against us" vibe and refuse to hold the Pats responsible for their rules violations.

But are these fans the lifers or just the ones jumping on the bandwagon because of the Boston teams' recent success? Bandwagon fans tend to be obnoxious regardless of who they root for. Tied into that, there are more Pats fans to be obnoxious, crude and downright evil. Have you noticed that the fans of other teams are nicer? Keep in mind some fans just don't have much to brag about. I think sports fans all around are about the same. Pats fans will seem much moe benevolent after a few non playoff years, partly because the bandwagoners will have hitched their ride to some other team.

I don't get the point with bandwagoners. How can you feel happy about "your" team's success when they became your team while they were being successful.

I'm on the train to w00tville. The Chiefs finally scored the W since.... forever. Preseason game or not, they won.

Being from the area, I'm required to cheer for them. Hopefully, they take this into the season and actually make something of themselves this year.

Am a rabid Cleveland Browns fan "DAWG POUND!!!!!!!! Am really pleased with what they did in the offseason picking up
some players to strengthen that defensive line and they had a ok draft.But alot of the players are really coming into thier own
right now and I think they will be a force this year and can go far in the playoffs.

Personally I rather trade Derek Anderson (coming off that good year you could get something decent for him)And put Brady Quinn
in as the starter.The fans love him,he's a native home grown product,not to mention he is your QB franchise player of the future.
He looks great in camp already and I feel would be ready to jump in and run this team....Unfortunatly....the Browns coach and front office
want to stick with the hot hand with Anderson.

Just hope one way or another Brady gets the job soon and the Browns Dawg Pound would be going wild and I belive he is ready to take the browns
deep into the playoffs. My only concern with the browns is thier Seconday..very unproven and young.

What if Quinn is a bust? Looking good in camp is not the same thing as playing well in the regular season. And as far as QB of the future Anderson is only two years older. The only advantage Quinn has is the hometown deal. Not much comfort if he can't consistently run what looks to be a high powered offense. Hometown is little consolation for 8-8.

It was smart to keep both. Quinn as a 1st round QB will fetch a high draft choice next year if Anderson continues his high level of play. If Anderson tails off next year he won't get as high a pick in a trade as he would have but still pretty good (coaches always believe they can "coach up" players, especially if they have had good seasons in the past). Then the Quinn era can begin. And it will begin fresh, he won't have the baggage of playing with Anderson's shadow (people saying stuff like "why did Quinn throw the INT, Derek wouldn't have done that", "we'd win 10 games with Derek" etc.). Allowing the QB controversy to settle itself conclusively will pay dividends in the years to come.

If last year displayed Anderson's true level of play as a QB then barring injury the Browns are set for 10 years. You don't mess with the QB position, getting gems like Anderson (at least last year) is not easy.

The Saints (Brees mostly) looked shaky in the first half of their pre-season game against the Cardinals but they could be a contender but I don't think they will go to the Big Show in Feb. The Chargers however are picked to win it all this year. Living in So Cal I wouldn't mind that outcome since that's the closest thing we have to an LA team.

Of course my first choice is the STEELERS!!!! Go Black and Gold!!!!!

Carolina got trounced good in the 4th. It's amazing that a defense can hold a team scoreless for three and fall apart in the 4th.

Them niners gave GB a defeat they are not going to forget very soon. Ouch!!![sm=crazy.gif]

It was probably Carolina's third stringers and borderline players in the 4th. I didn't watch the game but I'm pretty sure Coach Fox isn't insane, which you would have to be to play your first stringers for an entire game during preseason.

While no team wants to get trounced in the preseason its no biggie. Dust off and get 'em next week. The games don't count yet.

Speaking of trounced them nasty Pats sure got beat by my Bucs*. [:D] Woo hoo! But if that was bad did anyone catch what the Super Bowl Champion Giants did to the Browns. Wow!

Yeah on second thought maybe Brady Quinn should start. Just kidding, for now. Anderson didn't play well at all but he wasn't the main problem. The O-Line (very talented but ...) needs to hold a Giants rusher, any rusher, back. And their defense, yuck. And apparently Jamal Lewis forgot how to grab a handoff. Tough for any QB to excel in those conditions.

But its only preseason. The NFL better hope so, the Browns appear on prime time 5 times this year, three on Monday. a fact that the commentators were "groaning" about while the Browns were "playing".

* I admit I'm a Pats fan, from New Hampshire. The Bucs are my hometown team though (I live in Central Florida) and I root for them also.
