Thanks for your input, Jess! Never thought about the picture thing. Hopefully I can do that soon. As this point there is no point as they wont even uncover his face for a while, they are trying to simulate the womb for him, they are wanting him to feel like he is still inside me (I told them they needed to put a water balloon under his feet then because he loved to kick my bladder!!).

Yes, the nurses are awesome. They are treating him like he is their baby! He has his own personal nurse 24 hours a day. They are both super sweet.

Thank you ladies for all the love. I'll post more later..off to sleep...its been a LONG two days...

I just want to touch and hold my baby......

I am not a huggie person, but ((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))). Maybe in a few weeks I can get over that way and hug you IRL...just let me know when things are ok for me to come.

Cindy...thanks for coming in here and giving your wealth of NICU knowledge with Isaac!!! I really appreciate hearing from someone "professional" on when he would get to come home.

WOW Erin, he looks BIG and PLUMP considering how early you were!!!!

When you say you were home last night do you mean at the trailer or that you had to drive back the two hours to your house?

I can answer that...they went back home last night to sleep.

I had an idea of something that would probably be very useful to send. Isaac is 2 hours away from where they live.....what about gas gift cards to help them out with gas costs? Just a thought.

That's a good idea too...thanks!!! Someone also mentioned getting Visa cards that could be used anywhere and for anything they need pretty much.

We just came back home last night. We needed our own bed.

There has been talk of using the trailer but BIL has to pull it down there and he hasnt been able to get off work to do so. There has also bee talk of "borrowing" the apartment our local state representative uses when they are in session (we are in our state capital). Plus there are parent rooms at the hospital when available.

Thank you so much ladies for offering to send stuff....I cant believe how much love I am received from people I have never met in real life. Its amazing..I keep thanking God for ya'll.

Isaac

Morning all...we are doing well. Finally got some sleep and I am so sore this morning...all over, but feel better. I also got a good cry out, I had been pretty much holding back with everyone being around. Isaac is our miracle baby and he keeps being a miracle...God is good.

I called last night before bed to check in (I love that they dont care when you call they will tell you everything) they were able to turn his ventilator down even more so he is breathing well...still working on those kidneys. They also had to sedate him some more last night since he got the hiccups. His toes are blue right now and she is having trouble getting them warm because he wont keep them covered up...so he has some spunk.

Wow! Erin I cannot believe I am looking at a picture of your baby boy!!!!! How cool is that?!!!! I will keep praying for the little spunky guy! He really does look strong in that picture. He is so amazing! And beautiful! He looks a lot chubbier than I thought he would look so that is cool! You did a great job of taking care of him! So glad he has such great nurses taking care of him! And lol about the water balloon!

I think that a lot of the grocery stores sell gift cards for other stores. That is what my mom does for presents when she is in smaller towns.

Many moons ago, my brother was born at 10lbs and 11oz, 23" long. But he had a serious problem with his heart (he's fine now, a strappingly handsome Air Force Captain). So, he was in NICU, and there was another teeny tiny baby there who was having trouble keeping warm. They put my brother in with the preemie, 'cause they figured bro would at like a radiator! Plus the physical contact was good for both babies.

Dad said it was quite a sight to see the two babies side by side like that.

Congratulations Erin & Klay...

I was thinking about you a couple of days ago and thought I'd pop on and find out how you all were...imagine the shock!

I'm so very grateful that sweet baby Isaac is doing well and is big for his birth-date! I'll be praying for his sweet little kidney's and toes...

Was his birthday on the 29th or on the 28th?

hi Kim!!!! I was going to call you today to tell you to pop in

Erin posted in the bfing thread that she was able to pump a bit this morning...she called me all excited about it...she got about 1/3 oz out (which is great since her milk hasn't even come in yet). They are now headed up to the hospital again to see him.

Ruth...that is a neat story about your brother and that other baby!!

Wow Erin!!!! You got it all didn't you? Your baby boy who seems to be healthy especially for comming so early, and you got to skip the worst part of your pregnancy. I have a friend like that and all of her babies were born early like that and by 5 months, all were the same size and at the same milestones as 5 month old babies born at term. You might just be one of those people.

Congratulations on your baby and hopefully you will be able to feed him and let him start gaining weight. I am so happy you finally got to be the mom you have been praying to be.

Congratulations Erin & Klay on baby Isaac's birth. He share's my son's birthday--who turned 21 yesterday. Such a milestone birthday has had me remembering lots of things about his birth story--in one sense it seems like a lifetime ago, but in another it seems like such a short time. Erin, you have so many wonderful times ahead of you, I am a little bit envious. Praying for you and baby Isaac.

Kim I was going to ask about the date too, seeing as I am OS, I have no idea what the date is over where you are :)

Erin so glad that you are feeling at peace with the nursing staff. I know with my best friend who's baby was in NICU for 11 months ADORED the women there. They all bawled their eyes out when he left for home, they really do an awesome job!

And yay for milk coming out when you pump!! That's awesome!!! How do they feed him? Is it through a syringe? Or bottle? I have no idea!

How is Klay going? Does he have much time off work?

You are welcome Diane. I am sorry for not telling you earlier... I was thinking about you today (cuz you know I love ya! ) and realized you don't have the time to read as much anymore and decided to see if you even knew.

Plus there are parent rooms at the hospital when available.

As one who has had a baby in the NICU far from home...take one of these if you can. It will make things so much easier on you to not be traveling. If one is not available, talk to one of the hospital social workers and see what they can find. We ended up staying in the nursing college dorm across the road from the hospital because the Ronald McDonald house was full.

Still praying for you. I know this is a rough time and compounded with post-partum hormones. Make sure you allow yourself to vent and to cry when you need to. It's healthy and okay.
