Hi ladies, cant stay long...thanks for the prayers.

Isaac is 2 hours from us in a bigger hospital. He is intubated, but the doctor said he can and does breath on his own, he is just so tiny it wears him out, so they are helping him breathe so he can concentrate on growing. Other than being tiny they are seeing no other problems. I am out of our local hospital and we are home gathering up and cleaning up so we can go see him. I am feeling well, havent rested much, I just cant sleep...I want to see my baby...I havent seen him over 5 minutes yet. I miss him...I feel so empty without him already. I'll probably have internet and will post as I can...

(((((((((((((((((((Erin))))))))))))))))) I am so glad that you are doing well. I totally understand how you could feel empty without him. That is so sad. I am glad you are able to go see him soon. Also PRAISE GOD For taking care of him!!!! Oh my gosh Erin I find it so amazing that he can breathe and that everything is fine except for the fact that he does have to grow. I cannot believe you are a mom already. I was just talking to you yesterday and BAM today is a totally new day! That is just so confusing feeling to me lol I cannot imagine how weird it must feel for you and Klay. LOVE YOU ERIN!!!!! Tell Isaac I say "hi baby!!!!" You can tell him that your Canadian friend said that.

Praise God you are both well and ok!
I really wish I was in the states to see my friends baby and to give you a big big hug!!!
Hmmm lucky I have bought stuff for Mr Isaac and you already so now I just have to search my desk for your address again.....
Praying for you, Klay and Isaac
Love you lots!

Erin, you're amazing.

God is good. I had told Erin I would get her a swaddler from our hospital and she joked with me (this was maybe 2 months ago?) about "having lots of time"....so I hadn't gone to get it yet.

Today I have had her and Isaac Terry on my mind ALL DAY and I just had to go get her one so I fed and changed Adam (which makes it more real about Isaac, that I have my little one here and he is so BIG compared to hers), but I got him ready and went down to the hospital. The little store in the birth center is only open for one hour per day.

I kept thinking on my 15-minute drive "What does a baby 2 pounds, 14 ounces even LOOK LIKE in size?" I couldn't picture a baby so small.

Got on the parking ramp elevator only to be joined at the next level by a woman who got on with a teeny tiny Moses basket with THE SMALLEST BABY I HAVE EVER SEEN inside it. The mom was smiling ear-to-ear as the other elevator-riding-lady and I asked questions. He was born early, he currently weighed just over 4 pounds and he had been home for 3 days. HE WAS BEAUTIFUL -- and there he was, laying there before us all snuggled in his little basket. (Thanks, God!)

So I trucked my little one to the store in his carseat (which now my kid looks like he's about 5 years old compared to that little guy in the elevator), but I got to the store with 10 minutes to spare, got the swaddler in green (the only color for preemies, but it's a beauty), chatted it up with the clerk and left, passing the Labor & Delivery area I had given birth in.

There was a wall of "NICU Reunion Quilt" photos that I thought I'd stop at just to see how small the kids are, and get a feel for what good company Isaac Terry is in.

I stopped and one photo caught my eye, and one photo only: Grayson, who was born Sept. 7, 2006 weighing 2 pounds, 14 ounces.....seriously, ladies, by this point I'm in tears -- the exact weight of baby Isaac, and here is this curly-haired little 19-month-old boy in this picture. His parents had written that he was "a normal 19-month-old into everything and doing great".

So that just really lifted my heart and I thanked the Lord for His goodness to me and how He was watching over Isaac and his parents down where they are.

God is so good. I will keep praying for Isaac, Erin as she heals, and Klay as he goes through all this with his family.

Love,
Jeanie

I'm praying for you Erin, Isaac, & Klay also from Wisconsin.

Jeanie, thank you for your post.

I think when a premie reaches 5 lbs or very close to that that they can go home barring any other issues.

Professional opinion here . . . premies can go home when a) they can breathe on their own without oxygen, b) they have outgrown their As & Bs (apnea of prematurity), c) they can take in an adequate amount of breastmilk/formula per day without a feeding tube, and d) they are gaining weight consistantly. The actual weight doesn't matter.

Keep in mind that a baby is neurologically incapable of coordinating suck-swallow-breathe until about 34 weeks give or take, so if there are no complications the thing that will keep him in longest is learning how to eat.

BTW to those of us in the field a 2lb 14oz baby is pretty big. You oughta see those little one pounders.

Congrats, Erin! Make sure you get plenty of rest and take care of yourself. You won't do your baby much good if you are exhausted.

Most places, you can buy GC's online. Maybe you could even have it mailed to her address instead of your own?

you can either purchase one online from the place that you want, or you can go to walmart (or maybe other stores have this too) and buy gift cards for various places (Chili's, Applebees, etc...) from the store. Or you can go to a bank or mall and purchase a Visa type gift card, that they can use anywhere... just keep in mind that those have to be used by a certain date or they start taking your money off the card in fees.

Erin, I'm still praying for you, and I was speaking with my mom on the phone today and told her about you, and she is also praying.

Praying for you guys ... brings back memories of when my twin nephews were born ... three months premature. One weighed 3lbs, 1oz .. the other was 1lb, 3oz. Today they are healthy 5 year old boys with that lovely 5 year old 'curiosity'.

Also, Erin is registered at WalMart and Babies R Us. If you know her last name, I think you can find her registry, order a gift and have it shipped directly to her

Talked with her for a few minutes again this evening......

If you want to have her address, PM me....she gave me instructions of who she would trust with it and gave me permission to give it to certain people that she knows. If she doesn't "know" you well enough then I will filter mail to her by giving anyone my address. Just don't bog her down with PM's cause she won't have much time online right now...and probably won't feel much like posting a lot when she is on.

They didn't have a room at the hospital that she and Klay could stay in, so she is home for the night...hopefully resting after her very VERY long day.

Isaac has his nurse all to himself tonight, so she liked that...lots of personal attention. She said she likes the staff up there...they are great. He is very tiny...I am sure that was a shock to see him...I can only imagine.
His kidney's are not functioning up to par right now, so please pray for that. Other then that he is still doing good...considering.

Erin said she got some pics and will try to post them tomorrow so we can "see" him.
