My son will be in middle school...Any recommendations for a science magazine for kids?[8|]

I second the question... word for word...
ds wants to "learn about animals" and that is about all the mandate we have for science at the moment...

Answers in Genesis

If you go here LINK and then click on ANIMALS you'll find a lot of pictures. Click on the pictures and there's lots of information for kids.

Kids Discover is a great magazine for middle school, but it's not limited to science.

Whatever it covers (science, history, geography) it covers completely, all articles relating to the topic of the issue. It has great photography and illustrations, with quizzes and puzzles at the end.

I counted each magazine as a mini-unit study. The puzzles and quizzes at the end served as end of unit tests.

I saved every issue for three years and assigned them to my next student as well. Then I gave them away to another deserving home school family. They are awesome!

The Answers in Genesis is great! The kids are watching the videos right now. It will be a great adjunct to standard science texts that I am always saying..."but we believe that..."
I don't plan on doing an only creation science curriculum, instead I try to tackle head on the fallacy of evolution. I think it is quite confusing for kids, but hopefully, like learning two languages, things are a little messed up for now, but then they get all the ideas more in depth later.
I have thought about discover kids... but like you said, not just science.
National geographic for kids... is quite evolutionary, so I am not up for really fighting that fight in depth.
What about Ranger Rick?

So, I subscribed to Ranger Rick... it has a downloadable educators guide also... I thought it might be a little young, but his reading level isn't at grade level so it might be good that way, something he can do on his own.

I will let you all know if it works out well.

If nothing else, I think he will like getting mail. [:)]

Glad you liked it!![:D]

We taught Ds about evolution, too.
He liked the movies from Answers in Genesis and also the book called the
7 C's of History.

Ds also liked reading God's World News. It's a weekly newspaper for kids.
They have several different grade levels. It's more current events but did have lots of science stories.

Thanks..."Kid's Discover" looks very interesting...[;)] I guess the "Answers in Genesis" site can help balance the evolution viewpoint....
