ORIGINAL: URForgiven ......Galatians 3:1-5 is not about preaching in your own steam. It is describing the "another gospel" that RC spoke of, which God calls, "trying to attain your goal by human effort". I am merely agreeing with Scripture and with RC. Peace Yes - what you say is absolutely correct and in it's context regarding Galations 3:1-5. What this also brought to mind with me is that I believe we need the Holy Spirit to help us interpret Scripture and prepare sermons (if any are pastors or ministers that is). But not only that - we all need the Holy Spirit to help us when we are handling God's Word in personal Bible study, group study, devotional times, speaking God's Word in evangelism and anywhere else we use God's Word. I believe there is always a danger of false doctrine creeping in unawares if we don't depend on the Holy Spirit to help us interpret Scripture and only depend on our flesh. So in this sense, if we are trying to respond to posts on-site here for instance, then I believe the same applies, i.e. we need the help of the Holy Spirit so that "we don't try to attain our goal by human effort." Please see the following text which helps explain the dangers of handling God's Word without the Holy Spirit annointing: Vital preparation for handling the Word of God

I agree, without the work of the Spirit to illumine the heart and mind of the believer, it is not possible to understand nor as is said in Timothy, "to rightly divide the word of truth". Peace

ORIGINAL: Little_1 I believe we need the Holy Spirit to help us interpret Scripture this is a true, and wise statement. .... something we just talked about in my small group. and the understanding of that statement is that the HS is not connected to some lever that we can switch on and off. through meditating on God's word, serving, fellowship, obedience, and faith............. we learn that at the right time (in His time) when we are ready, HE will open our eyes to see what we couldn't see before that moment. and "some are called to be teachers" to help guide us in that journey. unfortunately we live in a rush world where theology can be learned by reading the back of a cereal box.
