It is the last book of the New Testament and the 66th and last Book of the Bible. It is entitled The Revelation of Jesus Christ. Some people refer to it as the Book of Revelation, but to discount someone simply because because they refer to it as the Book of Revelations is ridiculous. Kat, I totally agree with you. I'm not one to nitpick about silly little details such as that. The book is still valid whether you call it Revelation or Revelations.

JesusFan, Your OP was about an email that was sent to you re: Obama being the anti-Christ. The email says, "According to the book of Revelations the anti-Christ is. . .". If someone is going to speak 'authoritatively' about a person and use the scripture to prove something about that person, evaluating the credibility of what they are saying is of utmost importance. And this is all the more important if you are going to base your actions on what they say. So one quick look at the email you received shows their authority flawed as they refer to the book of Revelations. Nit picky? You and others can think so. It could have been a typo. But that is doubtful. Too many people who don't care about the details refer to the book that way. And IMO, if the name of the book is that insignificant, then what about other details. . . such as a relationship with the One the revelation is from? So, I take all this information into account and use that information to make my decision. As I said, I would have stopped reading after the misnomer. I was trying to be helpful in answering your question. I guess that is not what you were looking for. LL

Well, sorry, I'm sticking to my guns on this one. How someone words something says more about their grammatical knowledge than what's in their hearts. As far as this e-mail is concerned, I should have checked it out on Snopes or some such website (and there IS a whole write-up in there about this e-mail). But the fact that I know the person who sent it and she's a strong Christian, and since I know that according to the Bible there IS going to be an anti-Christ some day, that particular section made me concerned, and it didn't occur to be to check it out. I've learned my lesson, and I WILL do that from now on. I may not be the brightest bulb in the bunch, but I do love the Lord.

I may not be the brightest bulb in the bunch, but I do love the Lord. I did not intend to make you feel like you weren't a bright bulb. I am sorry. I truly intended to help you, to give you information that would guide you in the future. We don't have to be bright bulbs if by that you are talking about intellect. In fact, our intellect can get in the way of hearing God. And I do believe you when you say you love the Lord. And that gives us the only bond that truly matters in life. So bless you, JesusFan! LL

In fact, our intellect can get in the way of hearing God. But deliberately looking stupid, and forwarding stupid stuff, can get in the way of our neighbors hearing from God, by reinforcing the stereotype that Christians are intellectually lazy (or dishonest), and their gospel is unworthy of serious consideration. Considering the fact that the Bible consecrates entire books to wisdom, anesthetizing our minds bears false witness to our God and to His Word. God has given us something everyone on earth wants, guidance on how to live well and gladly. (see Deut. 4:8) In the case of the original post, apocalyptic hysteria was used by Satan to tempt/urge/compel Christians to literally violate, to disregard, the ninth commandment ("Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.") And how, pray tell, does bearing false witness against even a loathsome character adorn the good news of a King Who is, and loves, truth? (Actually, the deception goes a little further upstream, and is rooted in a willingness to embrace a false witness against the goodness and power of God, but that's another topic.)

I did not intend to make you feel like you weren't a bright bulb. I know you didn't, and no offense was taken. I totally admit that I can be a total featherbrain at times (proven by the fact that it never occured to me to check this e-mail on the Snopes website to see if it was legit or not). I was just trying to say that in the end it doesn't matter how smart or dumb you are as long as you love the Lord.

So if we learn from our mistakes, as one featherbrain to another, we will be better representatives of Christ who we love. For example, my last "contribution" to this conversation was true, but not gracious, and therefore did not well represent the One who is "full of grace and truth." I need to apologize to this group for my rudeness.
