But as part of that it is possible for the appointment of an elder from outside a particular body.

Can you show me in scripture where this happened please? if you can't it is mere conjecture on your part.

I don't need to show in scripture where this happened since you are inferring that someone was always selected from among the body they were meeting with, and then concluded that this was a rule.

nowhere does it say an elder should have lived with a group of people for a period of time before becoming an elder.

If you go to my website you will see that elders were only ever appointed from within the congregation they were part of.

I'll do that.

I've seen people pick a person from their body only to find out they had problems as well.

Uisng one person as an example is like making a doctrine out of one verse of scripture.

I've seen it much more than once, but this point is irrelevant anyway.

And how do you know that someone was never invited from outside a body to become an elder? It is not specified in scripture.

I know for the simple reason that I have spent 12 months studying NT church leadership, mainly in the orginal greek and consulted over 40 other authors who have written on the subject. I realise that some people believe that if the 40 authors disagree with what they believe, all 40 authors are wrong, but I prefer to go with a body of evidence from those who have studied the scriptures in depth.

Delineating your background is not enough. Make your case.

Yes you do as what you say has no authority unless it is backed up by scripture.

It is not because you are using it as a basis for your argument, rather than using scripture

I have. It is all there in my website.

Wow reading all the comments on all the different demonations and what is going on is amazing... its funny how the body of Christ puts up all of these rules and laws about what is acceptable and what is not and it's only half way biblical. Its amazing... my suggestion... follow the bible. dont cleave to any of the stuff going on.... stay focused on the Word of God. I believe if people start petitioning in their churches of concerns and then give resolutions that does WAY MORE than what you think...

One thing about it, we must realize that God did not require the Body of Christ to be perfect. Yet and still, we are forgiven for any faults, mistakes or mishaps that might occur in our lives; which can certainly disrupt the flow of other around us.
I believe it is up to us as believers to do what is necessary to enhance our own sense of well being in order to be the best we can be. This can include taking classes, reading, studying people and great leaders.

JenPur you are so right there, I grew up with a father and Maternal grandfather as pastors in two very different denominations. They never warred around me, just taught me what they believed, and left me to find my faith in Christ. Once my father had to be on a board that dismissed the senior pastor of the church we where at, because he had gone against the doctrines of the denomination. For me, I have found a non-denominational church that I enjoy and have served at for the last 13 years or more than 1/3 of my life. I go to a certain denominations school, that gives me a third view or theology to look into. My point here is that looking at my church I see it run strictly from the Bible. We have a council with several other non-denominational churches to keep accountability with one another, and have had an occasion to look into a pastor who was accused of heresy, and a mixed board of elders and deacons met to discuss the matter. I just think that it is something that the Church has dealt with since Paul. I think that the one thing a church needs to do first though is confirm the call of the person to ministry. My church had done that with me, and I am in the process of getting my license with the church.
