Girls, I could use some advice. We're leaving for Florida on the 13th. What do I need for traveling with a baby?? We're flying. My cousin is going to let us use her bouncer and pack -n- play once we're there, so I don't have to worry about that. We're bringing his carseat/stroller combo. Any advice for other stuff?

tomorrow write down all the stuff you typically use in a day, that will give you a good place to start....then you can figure out from there if you really need that item, if it can be gotten there (borrowed playpen, or buy diapers there, etc), or if you need to pack it

On the other hand, there are some who think "No" is a bad word. It's not.

I used no a lot with Akeelah because there are some things that don't have any other word but no! The oven was always hot and she recognizes that wherever she goes - points to one and says "hot." But this baby I look after, whenever I say no, she starts yelling "no, no, no, no, no." LOL.

And now I see Akeelah going up to the baby when she is doing something she shouldn't and saying "no!" As is mother, so is daughter!

This has totally happened to me When Addison was little, we traveled with my husband alot for work. I went on multiple trips with no clean undies and once I completely forgot another bra! Thank goodness for Wal-Mart!

It does get better though....she's 18 mos old now and we just took a 10 day vacation. I managed to remember everything for all three of us!

Like being annoying

With Akeelah, she would do things like pull all the dvds of the shelf. We tried all sorts of things and then finally switched to "no." (And removing the dvds from the shelf).

The baby I look after likes to press buttons. Doesn't me bother too much unless she tries to push buttons on the keyboard....Akeelah did that once and messed up the computer royally. I'm not sure what one word would work. And the baby keeps doing it no matter what I say.

Jack is the reason we set up the computer with accounts so we can "log out" when we stand up and he can't mess anything up!!

Diaper bag question....what all do I need to pack in a diaper bag? I am thinking I need to start getting this stuff in order because one day (soon) we'll get a call that says "bring your carseat and clothes to stay over, ya'll are going home". And when that call comes I am going to be spastic, giddy, and very forgetful. So I want to have his bag ready, and since its a two hour drive home I dont want to forget anything. What do I need in there?? Diapers, wipes, spit rags, receiving blanket(s),........

baggies for dirty diapers or clothes, lotion, diaper rash cream, bibs. I also keep a few things for me in there like Ibuprofen, lotion and little candy like peppermints, tootsie rolls etc.

Diaper bag question....what all do I need to pack in a diaper bag?

our main outings (church, around town, store, park, etc) my diaper bag typically has......
  • hand sanitizer (I have a thing that it hangs off the side of the bag on)
  • small bottles of meds (we don't use them often, but I don't want to be caught out without them....for my crew I keep baby tylenol, gas drops, and kids chewable tylenol in there...all in small bottles that I refill if necessary)
  • wipes (either in a big zip top bag, or on a plastic wipe holder...though they tend to dry out with the wipe holder more easily)
  • at least 3 diapers for each (six for babies Justice's age)
  • plastic bags for dirty diapers or clothes
  • extra clothes (I like all in one outfits in the diaper bag so I liketo use sleepers in there....btdt too many times with one part of the outfit magically disappearing from there)...some babies that spit up all over things easily need two or three outfits (Justice, I pack two cause he tends to spit up quite often...like every time he eats)
  • cup (for Jack)
  • water bottle (for me while I nurse)
  • extra pacifiers (a MUST have for Emma when she was a baby...she had to have one in her mouth at all times)
  • spit up blanket (we use receiving blankets as spit up blankets...they cover more of our clothes then little shoulder spit up things cover, and they absorb well)
  • cover up blanket (for nursing)
  • wrap

I also keep in my van.....
  • extra shirt for me
  • extra clothes for Hannah (she gets car sick if we drive anywhere longer then 30 minutes)
  • a few towels (again for car sickness)
  • container of sanitary wipes (to clean up the car seat, etc)
  • extra child size pullup (just in case....Emma has this thing about not using any toilet except ours at home)
  • small bags and two kitchen size trash bags

Definetely a shirt for you and a new outfit for him. My kids blew out and spit up all the time.

what all do I need to pack in a diaper bag?

Everyone has their own preferences as to what is a necessity in a diaper bag. These items with change too as the baby gets older. Now that Hunter is 19 months old all I need is a couple of diapers, wipes, a sippy cup, and a snack. But, here was my list of necessities when he was a newborn:
    - Four to five diapers and wipes
    - An extra outfit for the baby
    - A receiving blanket (I mainly used this to cover when nursing in the car or at church)
    - Burp cloth
    - Water bottle for me
    - Disposable bags for dirty diapers - they make dispensers for these bags in the baby section, loved them!
    - Extra nursing pads
    - Changing pad - they make disposable ones or my diaper bag came with one that wiped down easily
    - Hand sanitizer
    - Pacifier if he will be using one

Our list is pretty much the same as Chelle's, but we kept a box with all that stuff in the car and I just took diapers and wipes into the store with us. We never carried a full diaper bag unless we were going to be away from the car for more then an hour.

That is a good idea leaving some stuff in the car. There were a couple of times in the beginning that I forgot to restock the diaper back, not fun. So keep atleast some spare diapers and wipes in the car at all times just in case you forget to restock the bag.

I absolute agree with the "keep stuff in the car" idea. I got so sick of running out of diapers, I just keep a small package in there.

Nathan crashed very quickly tonight. He's been having a lot of trouble sleeping lately, and is definitely on a sleep deficit. He's been congested and the standard creams and plug-ins just weren't cutting it, so we gave him something for congestion according to our doctor's advice for a baby of his weight.

ahhh Sarah!! Nath turns my computer on all the time. I put it on standby, I wonder if logging out would help or not really. When he turns it on after standby it just comes up with alot of stuff saying "do you really want to turn this off" type thing.

David took a 2 hour nap today!! He usually only naps 20-30 minutes at a time and I have to be holding him or he wakes up. I was able to wash dishes, eat lunch, and take a shower!!

Ruth, we resorted to a decongestant last night as well Gabby's problem is that she wakes up at 1am and wants to play when she's sick. No cuddling, no cosleeping, just playing.
