It all looks great! I wish they'd let me order some through the website. They make all kinds of stuff, like bars and cereal and liquid and powder.

Oh I love Ovaltine! I wish it came in GIANT containers like Quik to make it worth it.

Nathan and I both like Ovaltine, too. But we get it in powdered form in large containers, so that lasts us a long time.

Do you ladies think the well baby visits are necessary? Mary is due for her 4 mo visit. We get her vaccines through the health dept so at her dr apts they just take a look at her, weigh/measure, and ask where she is in her devlopments. I need to make her shot apt, but I'm not sure if I want to do the well baby visit.

Nicole, I'm a little late on this, but I'd like to chime in. We don't pay anything extra for our well baby visits, so I'm sure that colors my opinion. But I think it is important to see the doctor when everything is healthy and good. I think its important to develop a trusting relationship with a doctor you like, rather then see a scary stranger when your child is really sick.

I know there are bad pediatricians out there, but if you can find a good one, then they will be a partner in your child's health, not some guy with a "piece of paper" for a license whose trying to tell you what to do with own child.

It's better to have a spirit of friendship and trust with a good doctor then a spirit of suspicion and fear that this stranger will try to tell you how to parent or that the doctor doesn't trust you as the child's mothers.

Milo! I used to have to listen to my Jamaican husband and my Australian roommate argue over who invented Milo (it probably wasn't either country.)

David just had a major spit up. He had 4 oz of formula at 5:20 and 4 oz of breast milk at 7:20. He was in his co-sleeper and I was trying to rest some more. He was asleep and he suddenly spit up. It was a lot!! Some even came out of his nose. It was so forceful it got all over me and my bed. I cleaned him up and he is still crying. He hardly ever spits up and when he does it's just a little trickle.

Emily - Gwen's done that about 4 times since birth ... it's awful, isn't it?

Well, last night Gwen was screaming in pain again - Nicole, I don't know how you've done it for almost 9 months!! We feel so bad for her and wish we could figure it out!! It's not been terrible every single night, but a few nights have been REALLY bad.

She's also getting a rash in her neck folds. I try to clean them every day but she just fights it and screams when I try ... now they're all red and sore looking

David had what I think was really bad gas for the first time last night. He was screaming and arching his back and nothing I did calmed him down. It was horrible. He was screaming and I was crying and Chris was frustrated because he didn't know how to help. I didn't get to sleep until after midnight last night and David woke me up at 5:20. That is the least amount of sleep I have gotten since he was a week old.

Is that to prevent the severe allergic reaction, or to easy the pain and itching of the sting itself for a person who is not allergic?

I met a lady at gym class who had the same problem with her two baby girls as you do, Nicole. She BF'ed, and they tried everything to change her diet, but the acid reflux and the gas was just horrible. She eventually gave up, because she felt like she'd gone as far as she could go.

In my opinion, BFing for 10 months with the struggles you've had sounds like much harder work then BFing for 3 years with a relatively easy baby/toddler. But it's not a competition, and you don't "loose" when you decide to wean. You just gotta do what's best for you and your whole family.

I was crying because I could tell he was in pain and nothing I did seemed to help. It was horrible. Then we had the spit up incident this morning and he has been really fussy and clingy today. This is not like him at all but I don't know what's wrong.

Emily, I'm sorry David had such a rough night, but I gotta tell ya - I'd do just about anything for 5 hours of uninterupted sleep!! LOL! That aside, it is such a horrible feeling to think your baby is hurting and you can't help.

Nicole, I'm glad you get to start back on dairy! I went off dairy and soy for about 3 weeks with Caden (and I am a dairy junkie)! It didn't make a difference for him and our family doc told me that it was unlikely to cause a problem for him if it doesn't give me problems. I am SO glad to be able to have milk and cheese again! I still haven't added back in the soy, but will eventually.

Does anyone have suggestions for helping Caden sleep through? He wakes up around 2-3am and wants his binky, but keeps spitting it out and crying for it (like every 20 minutes). I tried soothing him to sleep in other ways, but he wouldn't settle until he had that binky again. It happened a little less last night b/c he was less gassy (I had to bf him since dh got home from work so late - I think he swallows air with the bottle). He doesn't eat all night and wants to sleep, but keeps waking up needing binky. ARG Sorry for the novel. LOL

David usually sleeps from 10-5, eats, sleeps from 5-7, eats, and sometimes sleeps from 7-10 but not always. So I am used to sleeping from 11-7 with a one hour interruption to feed him and pump.

Does Caden like to be swaddled? David will stay asleep if he is swaddled, but if an arm pops out he wakes right up. I have this kind of swaddling blanket. They seem to work pretty well.

Our bedtime routine is this :I feed him a bottle, Chris takes him to the nursery and changes his diaper (and his clothes if needed) and swaddles him, I sit in the glider and rock him for a little while (if I lay him down too soon he spits up,) then I put him in his co-sleeper and rub his head for a few minutes.

I don't have any suggestions on how to keep the pacifier in.

It won't be long before he is finding his binky himself and putting it back in/

But in the meantime, could I just ask how sure you are that he doesn't still need a nighttime feed?

What teats (I think you call them nipples!) do you have on the bottle? You can get ones which are less likely to give the baby wind.

If I ask the paed for a allergy testing, what do they do? Will it hurt Nath?

When we had our little one tested for allergies, we saw a ped. allergist. They did a set of testing that had 6 different allergens. It involved placing the allergens on the skin, then they pierced the skin shallowly with a special tool. It doesn't really hurt much (they let me feel it, and did it on themselves, too). There were also 2 "control" substances (one was histamine, which itched). Then they had us wait for 20 minutes or so, and they came back and read it.

The testing is only for histamine-mediated allergies; sometimes, food intolerances are not caused by histamine reactions. The true test is a food challenge test: elimination of the food results in improvement of symptoms, and introduction of the food results in more symptoms.

Thank you for your input. Fortunately the two drs in the practice that I take her to are the two that saw me for my pregnancy care, so yeah, we do have a pretty good relationship.

Emily, no matter how tightly he is swaddled he works his way out - lol! DH calls him little Houdini. If he would stay swaddled he might be okay longer without the binky. We tried the halo swaddle thing too - he got out of that even faster. Hey - do you have any recent pics of little David? I'd love to see him.

Manda, we do use a bottle that mimics the breast. We've tried a couple and the one we're using now does the best as far as all that goes. Nighttime feeds: If I try to feed him when he wakes at night he just drops right to sleep like he does with his binky. He might get a little bit, but only enough to make him more gassy and sleep even worse.

I wish I had advice or suggestions for you ladies! I'm in the process of figuring out the answers myself, lol!

Tammy - the first tooth! Yay! Are you excited?! Are you going to save it?

Jadon is crawling backwards. He hasn't figured out how to do it forward yet, though.

~~~~~~~~
Can I put regular bug spray on Jadon? Is that bad?
Lily, can you get the binkies with handles and put one in each of his hands. Their little hands are so often closed, that he may hold them for a while.
Timmy peed in the potty for the first time EVER! I got a potty video from the library called Once Apon A Potty for boys, and we watched it. Then I set up his potty in the living room and put the stuffed Elmo on it and said, OK Elmo time to go pee in the potty. I had apple juice in there already that Timmy didn't see. And, then I showed Timmy that Elmo peed in the potty. Then I put Timmy on the potty and we watched the video again and asked him to go pee in the potty. When the video was like halfway over I put Timmy's hand in a cup of warm water and then he peed! And, I made huge deal about it. He was so happy. I figured we were safe without a diaper for a few so I let him be naked while I nursed Jimmy, then Timmy went and sat on the potty again and peed AGAIN! I asked him he wanted to go poop in the potty and he said no. LOL! I'm so happy! No more diaper chafing!
