ebony101 -> RE: Does It Bother You When Men Refer To You As Either Chick Or Babe? (7/19/2008 1:13:56 PM)

I'm listening to my Jon Secada CD as I write this so I hope I express myself well. Firstly, I don't like the word "chick" at all. Ugh! (shiver) Don't want to be called that at all. On the other hand "babe" is tolerable, but as usual it depends on the circumstances. If I'm walking down the road and guys in a "respectful" way refer to me as "babe" I'll tolerate it. After all they don't know my name and they want to make a positive (not crude) comment. In these circumstances I prefer "babe" to "it". I don't really like to be called "babe" by guys who are my friends. If I'm called "babe" in that situation, I will think that they're trying to change the relationship from friendship to something more. If that's not their intention then they will just confuse me. Being called "babe" by someone who I'm in a relationship with - is not tolerable at all. I think that they could put a little more effort into coming up with an endearment. I prefer some other less common name with more meaning attached to it e.g. sweetheart, my love or those cute french terms (blush, blush) [8|]. Having said all that what I really like is when I'm called by my name, I think that's really powerful. Whenever I want to get my guy's attention I call him by his name, then tone of voice, intonation, mood etc. play a really important part. I used to date a guy who would always call me by my last name prefaced by Ms. - that is not acceptable at all - not good at all. After a while I began to wonder if he knew my first name at all [:o]. That's my input humbleinspirit - so it's back to Jon Secada for me [;)][sm=dance.gif]
