MENU4EVR -> POP/ SODA (7/16/2008 11:09:44 PM)

Now I know this has been done but I am curious. I know there is a website but where are you from and what do you call that fizzy drink?I am from chicago and there we say pop. Well most of us, my fiance is from la and she says soda.

DaveW -> RE: POP/ SODA (7/17/2008 7:40:04 AM)

I drink Pop and bake with soda.....

I live near DC and everyone (including my own kids) order "soda." I am from SW Michigan and grew up listening to WLS, WCFL and watching the Cubs and Garfield Goose on WGN.

uncabeeil -> RE: POP/ SODA (7/17/2008 8:39:45 AM)

I drink soda. Pop is the sound a champagne bottle makes.

slushie -> RE: POP/ SODA (7/17/2008 9:32:56 AM)

Soda, over here!

Bubbles5 -> RE: POP/ SODA (7/17/2008 9:45:02 AM)

It's called Soda over in Wisconsin.
When I was growing up, and went to visit family in northern Minn. it's always called Pop up there.

Perhaps Wisconsin should be drummed out of the brotherhood of Great Lakes States?

Next you will be telling me they DON'T play Euchre.....

uncabeeil -> RE: POP/ SODA (7/17/2008 1:17:06 PM)

Eucher is still calling games for the Brewers as far as I know. He's just a bit too old to be playing these days. [:D]

PrincessButtercup -> RE: POP/ SODA (7/17/2008 2:38:42 PM)

Soda.

But I used to live in a place where all sodas would be referred to as "cokes".

Bubbles5 -> RE: POP/ SODA (7/17/2008 4:09:54 PM)

What/Who is Euchre?

humbleinspirit -> RE: POP/ SODA (7/17/2008 9:54:52 PM)

Tonic!

Oh, um soda. [:D]

thedivabrat -> RE: POP/ SODA (7/17/2008 10:01:28 PM)

Growing up in Ohio I drank pop but now in South Carolina I drink soda

sunshine4God -> RE: POP/ SODA (7/18/2008 12:34:20 AM)

What/Who is Euchre?
Only the most popular card game in the US prior to the civil war. It was an import from England. After the war, Poker took over and now Euchre is only played in the Great Lakes states.

At one job I had, there was always a game going in the lunchroom. They (we) usually got in 3 or 4 games during a 45 min lunch break. (and still got to eat!)

Bob Uecker is the radio announcer for the Milwaukee Brewers. He's a former Major League player, actor (Mr. Belvedere, Miller commercials ["I must be n the front row!"]), and general clown. It was obviously a poor pun.

DreadPirateRandy -> RE: POP/ SODA (7/18/2008 10:28:44 PM)

Drink.

That way, it isn't limited to soda/pop.

Kerrlaw -> RE: POP/ SODA (7/18/2008 11:38:57 PM)

Coke.

"Bring me a coke."

"What kind do you want?"

"Orange."

Bubbles5 -> RE: POP/ SODA (7/21/2008 10:48:00 AM)

Yes I've heard of asking for a coke, and them asking what flavor. But we ask for a soda here.

DaveW,
Sorry, never heard of that card game "Euchre" But I'm not really a card player. Used to play when I was younger..."Put and Take" and "Go Fish"

Bill,
Yes...I know of Bob Uecker. He still does announce for the Milwaukee Brewers. Was a pretty good actor also [sm=thumbsup.gif]

cherish405 -> RE: POP/ SODA (7/21/2008 10:48:04 AM)

Over here it's called a soft drink.

_MavericK_ -> RE: POP/ SODA (7/21/2008 11:41:09 AM)

Oh, I remember this, when I first moved to Mississippi. That was very confusing!

I usually just ask my husband, "Would you like a drink?" indicating any. I guess we don't drink enough pop around here to say "pop" very often, but when I do, it's "pop."

When I first moved to the Midwest, and they called it soda, I had no idea whatsoever what they were talking about.

But i have lived where they also call it sodapop.

zoebob -> RE: POP/ SODA (7/24/2008 12:49:28 PM)

I grew up in NJ calling it soda
Then I went to college in western NY where the locals call it pop but the college was so mixed people said both
I moved back to NJ and soda land
Briefly in western NY but still called it soda in pop land
Balitmore: soda land
Spent about 6 years in western NY and learned to call it pop
Have been back in soda land for 3 years and go back and forth

My relatives are west of Chicago and all say pop

elastic -> RE: POP/ SODA (7/24/2008 12:51:38 PM)

I grew up in the south and we drink coke. Everything is a coke, unless it's tea. even pepsi is coke.

cherryfly -> RE: POP/ SODA (7/24/2008 2:43:45 PM)

Over in the northwest in Oregon, we have pop. Then we moved to North Carolina where it was either coke or soda, and then to Florida, and I hear all three because there's a big diversity of people living there.

But for me...it's pop. Or Soda. People who call it generically coke are crazy loonies of you ask me [sm=biggrin.gif] It's the name of a kind of pop/soda for crying out loud! ha ha.
