Jae, that's great you got 1.5 oz. this time. It is nice to be able to go on a date once in a while.

Erin, will they let you pick what kind of bottles will be used when he does start using a bottle? There are some on the market that are supposed to be great for babies who are nursing. Avent were supposed to be great for that, but I dunno. I think there are some better ones out there with a slower flow and more like a real nipple.

on the bra's...get fitted and get the size that fits right now. They usually have a bit of give or have several different clasps that you can loosen when your milk comes in. Generally though, by 32 weeks you should be good on the size. Like someone else said, it's not so much the size being different from here on, it's the texture and firmness of your breasts being different after the milk comes in. Plus...even if you have to buy new bras then, you still need bras that fit now too. You can get a clogged milk duct NOW even before your milk comes in...and a too tight bra can lead to that sometimes.

I'm not really sure on that. We havent gotten that far yet. I do know that they are very pro breastfeeding and very supportive of a mom who wants to go that route, so I am pretty confident they'll do the best they can.

There are special bottles used in the NICU (at least around here) for all preemies ... and it doesn't seem to negatively affect BF ... it's just a much smaller nipple (and bottle) to make it easier for baby to feed until the sucking reflex fully kicks in, and the gag reflex retreats!

They will probably let you choose, but you will probably need something with a preemie sized nipple. I know Dr.Brown has a preemie size bottle... They'll probably want to fortify your breastmilk as well to help Isaac get more calories.

Oh, and both Dr.Browns and Avent have/will have BPA free versions available. The Dr.Brown's are already out and Avent should be available in October.

Going from 5 to 6 pumpings is a 20% increase. That's something to be happy about, Erin!

Purejoy, I tried a couple different brands of bras with my first. I bought them around 8 months, and they fit fine after birth, but they were quickly replaced becuase the wires kept snapping.

The bras I bought when my first was several months old were worn throughout my second pregnancy (I didn't wean baby #1 until baby #2 was 5 months old) and are still worn today. So yeah, you can start wearing those bras now.

I have a hard time getting dressed when I get out of the shower because I leak so much. Chris asked me the other day why our bathroom floor was so sticky. LOL!!

I had to wear breast pads until Hunter was around 9 months old because I leaked so much and so often. It was a long time before my body stop letting down at the thought of Hunter or the thought of nursing him.

With Reagan, I leaked a tiny bit when she was newborn and refused to latch. I would only leak when I was trying to nurse her, and she was screaming at my breast. No other times.

I've never once leaked with Lincoln.

What? Not everyone has to wear pad for 18 months??? (although I'm hoping to ditch them sooner with the next one...

Yes, leaking is sooo much fun... I leaked so bad getting my hair done once that I had to go hide in a massage room while my mom rinsed my shirt and put it in their drier...

Wow! I only leaked a little bit in the very beginning. I didn't realize that wasn't common!

I, too, am a non-leaker. But then I've never had a "normal" nursing relationship. Personally, I'd be willing to leak if it meant I would have enough milk (which I know it doesn't)!

Erin, you're doing such a great thing by pumping! I know it's a HUGE sacrifice and difficult. I'm so very proud of you!

Thanks for all the replies, ladies! Very helpful, because like I said, I have no idea.
Does anyone know if Target sells them in-store, or only online?

I know they sell them in store, but sometimes they don't have them in stock in the store.

I only leak if I get engorged - that's only after a growth spurt when I seem to step up production. I have had some clogged ducts - no fun! It helps me to change nursing positions and use a warm compress (or shower) and massage.

Question:
Caden is only eating 5 times a day - 6, 10, 2, 6, 10... I'm worried about my production (I'm not able to pump as much now) and also that he's eating enough (I know you can't put babies in a box, but aren't they supposed to eat 6-8 times a day at his age - 10 weeks?)

How's Caden's weight doing, Nicole? Is he still gaining?

go by # of wet diapers more then anything...and secondly is he gaining in size (weight/height) or ability (some babies don't physically grow much but they develop abilities still). If he is then he is normal for him. Some babies are efficient at getting what they need in less feeds...and then some want to suck on you all the time to get what they need....lol.

His weight was great at his last appt a week ago - he has another next week, so we'll see. He's learning new things (started grabbing things in the last week). Oh, and he still has lots of pees and poos.

Do you think my milk production will be okay with less feedings though?

if he is actually nursing, then yes it should be fine and will be more when he needs it (generally speaking...you could up your production if you are really worried)....if you are pumping then it could be a sign of trouble. 10 weeks though is kind of a slough off time....12 weeks is usually a growing time, so he will probably up your supply here real soon.

If he is still gaining weight at a good rate, it would sound to me like he's getting enough. I wouldn't worry if I were you.

Thanks Manda and Sarah! We are mainly nursing. I only pump enough for the night time bottle b/c dh likes to do that feeding. It's not really necessary for me anymore since he goes from 10pm to 6am without eating (too bad he doesn't sleep through), but dh wants to do it. I'm actually usually pumping while he's giving him the night time bottle.

Sorry to keep asking, but just to clarify... if he is going 4 hours between feedings (and 8 hours at night) my body should be able to produce more milk for those feedings if he needs it? Or will he need to eat more often if he needs more?
