Hey Feesha! Can you just nurse him a couple times a day at the same time everyday, and do the rest formula. Good to know about the organic formula being sweeter.

When I started weaning at 7.5 months, I started by doing formula in the day time, and nursing just in the night (bedtime, wake-up and anytime in between) Then, it was just bedtime and middle of the night, then just bedtime, and then just bottles. It is amazing how fast your body can adjust...I had no troubles cutting out the daytime feeds and still having lots of milk at night.

I went from nursing my son 4 times a day to 1 or 2 times a day and giving formula instead. I'm surprised that I'm not engorged from dropping feedings..! I still want to nurse him but he's not interested and I don't think he's getting much milk. I guess I just dried up or my body just can't do it anymore? DS is adjusting very well, aside from a little stomach discomfort, and is such a sweetie. He likes me to cradle him and he'll suck his finger or hold his blankie. Hopefully we'll have that breastfeeding bond for a while. Since starting formula he is refusing solids. All he wants to do is drink formula now. Tomorrow I'm going to pay attention to how many ounces of formula he's getting a day and give a cup instead of a bottle. I'm also going to try to give it as a drink with his meal. I wish I had a pamphlet on weaning! Thanks for the advice. I'm sad that my baby is growing so fast

Forgive me, but how old is she now? Does she have a hard time latching on because you are engorged? Has your cycle started back yet (I ask because it can change the flavor of your milk...and some babies are sensitive to that)? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The milk man has arrived. LOL Ouch. I was pleasantly full before I laid down for a nap, but when I woke up...um...yeah...trying to decide which third world country I should feed this time. She's been getting quite a bit already, as I've heard quite a bit of swallowing. She's an interesting nursling too so far (aren't they all?). She doesn't nurse too often...seems to be about every 4 hours in the day and 3 in the night. Pretty quick nurser once she gets going too, which is good, as I don't have hours on end to sit on my rump right now. But how she starts out nursing is hysterical! She licks the nipple repeatedly, and I have to express quite a bit before she'll latch on good. She's got to make sure it tastes good first or something...my little gourmet!

Kim - is she happy during this time of not eating? Like, she doesn't seem hungry at all? If I were you I'd probably start pumping at her missed feedings and store it in the hopes that she will swing back to eating and then you hopefully won't have problems with needing to bring it back up. Donna - Isabel does that at the end of some feeds, esp at night when she eats like a piggy. She gets done and just lays there for a minute and licks. I find it kind of weird but Jeremy thinks it's funny.

I was going to suggest that too, if you are able to pump at all (I'm usually not by 12 weeks). That way, it takes care of your engorgement and you can build up a small supply of breastmilk for later on. Probably she's just in between growth spurts though...doesn't sound abnormal to me. Babies have really hungry days and not so hungry days just like older kids and adults.

Do you have a forceful let-down? And a lot of foremilk? I did with Nadia and she couldn't handle it. She also had the green, almost grass like poops. I had to literally stand in front of a sink and start my letdown into the sink till it slowed somewhat so she could eat. After that we didn't have a problem. But I went through that stage too, where she didn't want to eat, but was hungry. Or didn't want to nurse, I should say. Just give it time, she'll come around, although it's frustrating till she does!!

Man oh man!!! Nath is really hurting me when he feeds last few days. He has 6 teeth now and they are just grating everytime he goes on. I have to take him off sometimes. He has been feeding ALOT last few days coz he has been sick. (and no, I am not pregnant). I have never fed a baby this old, so is that kind of normal for it to hurt when they have so many teeth or when they are sucking more than normal?

Great news Erin! It sounds like everything is going well. quote:

Maybe try to use some lanolin. Which teeth does he have, 4 on the bottom, and two on the top? That second set on the bottom is a killer, I remember that!

It can be Kim. Glad things are back to normal!! Can you think of anything you ate preceding the change? That's all I can come up with. I do know though that you milk can change flavor if you have mastitis. One mom said it seemed almost sour and her son refused that side until it was cleared up.
