Did your pump come with a freezer pack and bag? When we travel (mostly to the children's hospital for Josie's appointments), I just store the milk in the bag with the freezer pack and then either use it or put it in the fridge when I get home. I found a link with a picture. Here it is. It's the little bag up front.

Good idea, Erin! I saw the ice pack at Target.com for $6.50. Not that it has to be Medela...but I like that one because it fits so nicely with the bottles.

Ok, I should have done this a long time ago, but didn't. I have a medela manual pump, works fine for me, but it gets hard on the hand. What pumps do you have that work and do you think I could just go with this, the step up from the manual if the manual works ok but I need some relief from the hand motion?

Kathryn, I have a single electric pump of a different brand that was fine for me. I bet that Medela one would be good. You stay at home, right?

I'd try pumping in the car. Park in a off to its self spot. You can also use a nursing cover too. I may do that some later on just to get out of the office a bit. ___ yeah... the thing is I won't be driving the first 2 weeks I go back....but I am going to wait and see how it all works out when I go back... I am determined to make it work.. even if I only pump twice during the work day I will be happy!.. btw Erin I just wanted to tell you that I truly admire all that you are doing for your little one....I know I wouldn't have been as strong as you.... keep it up girl and soon you will have your bundle of joy at home with you!

Yes, I am SAH. I can't even find my manual pump! Don't they have adaptions for manuals now? I've got to find this thing! I'm thinking since it worked for me, it should work again.

Kathryn- that's the one my sister and I both have, and I love it. I can use it at home, use batteries in the car if on a date- love it. If you watch you can get it for 70 or less- totally worth it to me- the hand ones are just toooo much like a milking machine! Anna is still nursing at nap and bedtime, and I have quite a belly- she wraps around, but I'm not sure how much longer she's going to want to. She is QUITE attached to her booby, but it is getting harder for her, and my milk is starting to change over too...First trimester my nips were soooo sore, but not bad at all now, and NO breast tenderness this pg at all- that makes the nursing worth it to me! Sandy- hugs to you! It is so bittersweet when they stop...

Why the price caution? I saw one on amazon for $51.

Ok.. I have a weird situation. I'm allergic to sulfa. In food or meds. In food I get horrid rotten egg gas out both ends and if I eat enough I get hives. In meds it's straight to hives. I've been eating Fig Newtons which have Sulfor Dioxide to preserve the fig. I'm ok with the amount I eat. Kiddo has had RANK toots and stools the last few days and this morning I realized it smelled like rotten eggs. It's also getting green again. She had vax on Tuesday am. I cannot remember if the toots/stools were stinky before then. So questions: Can she inherit the allergy? Can she get the Fig Newton's sulfa from my milk? Could it be the vax? I'm calling Ped in the AM to find out what brand of vax they used, I was ok with them at the time I just cannot remember names. I have had arguments with my Dr's in the past over Ab's prescribed. I was told it wasn't a sulfa drug, and it wasn't, but the table itself, not the medicine, was made with a sulfa. I broke out in hives. Argued to get a new CAPLET script. Irregardless of if it's the food or drug should I insist her chart get marked with the allergy??

My little man does not like formula in any form or fashion. The additive they are adding to his breast milk is apparently making him have way too many poos, so they may be discontinuing that. Which would account for his "problems" none of which started until they added the additive. Not exactly sure what it is but its made by the formula companies to add more calories to his milk so.... I want him to grow and come home but I will not be totally sad if they discontinue it....it kinda bummed me out when they added it in the first place. (Disclaimer: I am in no way bashing formula feeders....) I dont know whats going on with my boobies (yes, I said boobies, I like the word). I feel like I did when my milk first came in...hard, semi engorged-both sides, and I am smelling my milk again. I am fighting off yet another clogged duct, this time on the "good" side. But I am applying heat, massaging, and pumping, so I am not too worried. Isaac is one month old...I've been a for a month and still going strong. On the bright side...even if I couldnt continue (which is not in the near future anyway) I have a good three weeks head start on the little man! So he'd at least get a few weeks "extra."

Erin, at 3-4 I felt REengorged. I attributed it to a growth spurt in little one. I still get SUPER full at night and she drains them both each feed (2 at night) and falls right back to sleep. Once he's on you and/or home nursing you will start to notice your supply adjusting so DON'T freak out if you seem 'emptier' at some times of the day, even now. I feel way empty around 3-6 but I know she's the super thick stuff as it runs out her mouth!! Sarah, I'm so bummed she may be allergic. I have a call into Ped to get detailed list of ingredients in Vac or just the brand and I can look it up myself. We shall see.

Brandy, that's a bummer about the allergy. That will make it tough. Erin, I think it's the baby's saliva that tells us what the baby needs. Maybe ask the nurses about swabbing some of his saliva on your nips and see if that would do anything. I dunno if it would, but I bet they know. My friend was so engorged, and she pumped a lot. When she stopped nursing and pumping for her baby at 6 weeks, he still got breastmilk exclusively in a bottle until he was 3 months old. She had built up a 6 weeks supply because she was so engorged.

Yay, exciting! So, nippling, that just means he messes with your nipples, but doesn't really nurse? It's to get him used to the idea?

Non-nutritive nursing is where they just let him mess with my nipples. If he latches and sucks great, if not no big deal. The purpose is just bonding and "practice." Nippling just means taking feedings from a nipple, be it bottle or breast.

Hi nursing mommies, after 10 months of nursing I'm starting to wean my baby boy to formula. He loves the stuff (I'm using the organic because it's sweeter). I'm a little emotional, I wanted to breastfeed for one year and beyond but I'm really tired and worn out. I know I'm ready and it's the right decision for us but I'm having such mixed feelings. Does anyone have any advice on the next few weeks and months? I'm really not producing a lot of milk anymore and am taking it as a cue that it's time to stop.
