I nursed Luke for the first five months of my preganancy with Kenna. I planned on nursing all the way through, but with him still being so young and my working and pumping, my supply dwindled to next to nothing and we ended up weaning. Since Mary's older and not depending on your milk for full-time nourishment you'll probably have better luck than I did. --Kat

well...its not exactly too set of a schedule. I TRY to go every three hours, but sometimes get thrown off, and I still am not getting in more than 6 pumpings a day, which may be part of my supply problem...but its SO hard with being on the road so much... Its usually something like 7am, 10-11(usually ends up more like 11 since I do it at work), then mid afternoon (3ish), then about 6 (after i get home and settled down, parts cleaned, etc)., then again mid evening, then about 11 or so (bedtime), then I wake up at 3am to pump again. I know thats 7 times, but usually I get off schedule and loose one somehow.

Erin, do you have an adapter for pumping in the car? A good handpump (I like the Avent Isis) would be great for pumping while on the road (if you are not driving of course). I would just pump as much as I could and not worry about Isaac's schedule. Like Sarah said pump at least as many times a day as he eats. Now if pumping when you know he's eating helps you with pumping, that's another thing. Dee

LOL! Thankfully the times I have had to pump in the car, it's been dark with not much traffic on the roads. Erin, I'm so proud of you! You're doing a great job and are a wonderful mom!! I know someone who is about 6 weeks pregnant and has a 9 month old and her OB told her not to continue nursing because it can cause preterm labor. Is that really a risk? She was about 2 1/2 weeks early with her first baby (went into labor on her own) but I don't consider that too early. She didn't have any problems with preterm labor with her first. Anyway, just wanting some input before I actually talk to her (I found out about this through a family member).

Thanks Sarah. Let me talk to her and if I need some backup, I'll PM you. I just googled it and read enough to talk to her inteligently about it. I know she was hoping to go at least a year and I hate to see her quit when she's 3 months away from a year old!

What Sarah said. Nipple stimulation only causes labor if the body is already ready to go.

Nursing around a baby belly....It really wasn't an issue for us. Reagan is long, and she just wrapped around my belly. We usually used a pillow, so that helped. I also nurse sitting indian style a lot, so I guess there was more leg room for her to lay on than if my legs were strait down. quote:
Prudent, did you notice that Regan (is that spelled right?) wanted to nurse more often after the baby was born? What was it like nursing two? Yes, she definitely wanted to nurse much more often when she saw Lincoln nursing so much. But she never got upset when I told her 'after baby' or just 'later.' Since I had an abundant supply after birth, and had very little milk when pregnant, she really renewed her interest in nursing. Nursing two babies was just more nursing than nursing one baby. I wish I could tell you it was something very special or give you some tips. Since I was already nursing Reagan when the baby was born, it was just natural to continue nursing her. Reagan was only nursing once daily when Lincoln was born, and I pretty much kept it at that. A few times after birth I let her nurse twice a day, but not often. Becomming a big sister is hard, and having most of mommy's time & attention spent on baby brother is a big adjustment. I just chose to try to keep as much of Reagan's life as normal as possible, and not push weaning before she was ready. She's a special girl, and I figured nursing a few minutes a day was easier to deal with than an upset toddler.

man.. I am soo upset now!.. I just found out today that work doesn't have a lactation room.. they said I could either use the bathroom or the executive shower.. "as it has a bench!!!"... am like REALLY now?.. how will I plug it in... ??? and if I use batteries.. how many will I go through a day? (I need to try that first before complaining.. just sounds odd)... AND... where will I store the baby milk? in the fridge where everyone stores thier lunch?.. what if someone tampers with it?!..(it has been known lunches get stolen!!!).. so I don't know how am going to handle this... I really didn't want to stop nursing this soon... with last time I went back to work after 6 weeks but I was able to give him breast milk exclusivly for 4 months... this time I will be going back after 8 weeks...but don't know hwo long I will be able to keep t... and I don't have much in the freezer right now!... am waiting for my fenugreek supplies to arrive to see if I could up my supply since my boy is too lazy and I only pump.. which we all know doesn't work as good as a baby sucking..... not happy JAN!!! (only the aussies will get this one - sorry!) sherry

Sherry, can you pump in the car? I pumped in the car alot when I was working. I would just park around the back of the building near the loading docks... I had a car charger for my pump.

no unfortunately there is not spare offices.. as it is we have trouble getting a free room for a meeting.... in the financial industry ..and especially within IT professionals.... they don't really take care of those kinds of details.... and I would have to pump in the actual loo..... like sit on the loo and just sit there and other ladies will hear that noise ..and they WILL say something.... it does suck big time.. I really still can't believe it.....I am praying that when I do go back I will find a solution.... I have the Ameda Purley yours pump..... and the worst part is... I am not planning really on staying there for THAT much longer maybe a month or so... am only going back for insurance purposes and stuff like that.....
