Hey Guys,

Just thought it might good info for us single folk. At what point did you know that your girl was the one to marry? Was it a specific instance? Something she said or did that made you know? What is your story?

This is a bit of a difficult answer to give you if you are looking for confirmation that it is time (if that is what your looking for) everyone is different. (See "When Harry Met Sally", I know it isn't good to reflect on movies to judge reality but there are several scenerios whereas Men and Woman give different details on how they met, some knew each other for years before they knew)

Otherwise, I met my wife on a blind date of all things. She was very nervous, quiet and meek, and beautiful! I had a good feeling about her right off the bat. Don't know that I would call it "love at first sight" but she had me intrigued pretty quickly. I called her the very next day, invited her to dinner at my house whereas I made a meal and from there we just spent mostly every day together. I realized over the next few weeks that she is very traditional (she is hispanic, from Mexico) very much family first, which just pretty well raised her chances up to about 90%. She was the first to say I love you and pretty much at that point, I melted. With the short exception of a trip out of town for a funeral, we have been together everyday!

I never believed in love at first sight, but I (also) met my wife on a blind date and I knew the moment I saw her.

No, just kiddin!! Actually, we just hung out together in a group of friends in college. This other girl was interested in me, and others in the group told me that I should ask her out. But right when I was getting ready to ask for a date, on a club retreat I found her in bed with 2 other guys playing sexy drinking games. Not that I don't enjoy my share of beer, but I don't like to get sloppy drunk and I don't play sexy drinking games. So that killed that idea, and I started to date the girl who is now my wife.

My wife and I were pretty close friends for about 10 months before we dated and during some of that time I was debating whether to start dating her or not. I had the advantage of knowing that she liked me so it was "in my court". I also knew she was divorced and had two sons so for some time I was pretty turned off by that. One day, something inside me "snapped" as though I realized a new level of maturity beyond my "bachelorhood" and I determined that I wanted to be the one that takes care of her and her kids because I couldn't trust anyone else to do it as well as I could (okay so maybe I was a little inflated in my own abilities, but I'm getting better day after day). Prior to this, though, I knew (somehow) that if we ever started dating, that we would get married. I guess I just could not find any flaw in her and realized that I would not have any reason to ever want to split. I knew she was wonderful when we were friends and didn't want to "lose" her to someone else. Little did I know, she thought I was someone very special (good thing I had her fooled ;P).

Hmm... maybe I rambled a bit. Lemme break it down. I knew she was the one before we ever dated. It happened like an epiphany that changed my whole outlook and direction in life. From that moment on, she has been and always will be the only one for me. :D

EDIT: Okay I do want to ammend that I should have spent time in prayer to truly listen for God's leading in my decision, but I confess I was not very close to him at that point in my life which was my own fault. Luckily, he can make wonderful things come from our choices (no matter how poor).

My wife and I used to be co-workers, who never gave the other any consideration for a good 5 yrs. She was single, as was I- but the one quality I had she didn't like- namely I was an alcoholic.

Then one day, she had mentioned that she had a spare room for rent, in an old school house that she owned- and she asked if I wanted to come over to see it. Well, I did and the next thing ya know - we did more than - "see the room". I did move in with her, and about a month later - she found out she ws pregnant.

Between - "seeing the room", and her finding out she ws pg - I was thinking about asking her to marry me anyways, so about a two weeks or so after we had found out - I asked her to be my wife. She said yes.

And we've been together now for 20yrs - and no sign of th big- "D" in sight!

When I first saw her, I tried convincing some mutual friends we were engaged before I met her.

I figured it would be harder for her to break off our engagement if everyone knew. [:D]

It took several years to convince her I was serious, especially since I was traveling between the Arctic and Antarctic.

When we finally did get married, we really hadn't seen much of each other, so we had a 30 day honeymoon to get to know each other.

That was 28 years ago.

The first time I saw her I knew I would marry her. It was January 1980. She walked into my high school classroom and I was instantly in love. It took a few months for us to get to know each other and about the time we started hitting it off, she moved again. We remained pen pals for about three years and finally married in the fall of 1984. No regrets. She is more beautiful to me today than when we were in high school. And about the time I think things couldn't get any better, she surprises me.

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum and found this thread to be worthy of a first post.

Through all the tentativeness of being 21 (me), I just felt that my wife was "the one" and therefore married her. Our oldest son - honestly - forced this decision as we didn't want him seeing life without God's formal blessing.

Now married 31 years, and having gained many insights about marriage and life in general throughout that time, I think I can mention some "why I married her" reasons with the clarity of hindsight [:)]

First, she appeared very proper and righteous, particularly regarding interactions with guys. My gut thought: she's "not easy."

Second, she was into her career and was quite successful at that early age. A 21-year old guy's inner voice: she's got "direction."

Third, she was - and still is - very pretty. The rudderless young man's thinking: yes !

I guess that sums it up. Thanks guys.

Actually, I have a problem with losing my car keys. The first time we met I was frantically seaching for my keys and this angel came walking over to the booth where I was drinking a chocolate milkshake and she whipped up my napkin, cleaned a spot of chocolate off my sleeve and handed me my keys,which were under the napkin. We went to a campus ministry later and I led the singing, badly. Very Very Badly.
