In the interest of time I'm copying an email I received. This was NEWS to me and I'm curious how many others knew it. You'd think if they went to the trouble to put a tab on the box they'd make sure we knew about it. [8|]

Whoever looks at the end of your aluminum foil box? I've been using aluminum foil for more years than I care to remember. Great stuff, but sometimes it can be a pain. You know, like when you are in the middle of doing something and you try to pull some foil out and the roll comes out of the box. Then you have to put the roll back in the box and start over.

Yesterday, I went to throw out an empty Reynolds foil box and for some reason I turned it and looked at the end of the box. On the end it said, 'Press here to lock end'. Right there on the end of the box is a tab to lock the roll in place. How long has this little locking tab been there?

I looked at a generic brand of aluminum foil and it had one, too. I looked at a box of Saran wrap and it had one too! I can't count the number of times the Saran wrap roll has jumped out when I was trying to use it.

ETA: oops I hit the wrong button and posted this before it was ready!

I never paid attention to it either, but now I know.

Not bragging, but I've known about this for years. Well, okay, maybe bragging a little.[;)]

I knew this, Mom. Sorry! [8D]

I don't know when I learned it. I think I discovered it on my own and never thought people didn't know about it!

Well, I've known it forever but ONLY because my gr-grandmother showed me when I was a little kid on a box roll of wax paper. It's got nothing to do with my intelligence for certain.[8|][8D]

After that, I just assumed every boxed paper roll had it and from what you are saying, they do.

News to me. I'll check my wraps boxes when I get home!

loveleee -> RE: Tab on Foil and Plastic Wrap Boxes (8/4/2008 3:28:42 PM)

Who knew!!!!!!! Oh wait- most everyone but me![:D]

.Pammy -> RE: Tab on Foil and Plastic Wrap Boxes (8/4/2008 3:38:42 PM)

Okay, everybody. They're on my plastic (Saran) wrap, aluminum (Reynolds) foil, but NOT on my waxed paper. But that may be because it's store brand.

doinkdom -> RE: Tab on Foil and Plastic Wrap Boxes (8/4/2008 3:44:08 PM)

Yes, I've noticed that instructions are half-hazzard on many store brand products.

I had a can of biscuits that stated, place biscuits 2" apart on ungreased cookie sheet.

that was it...no temperature, no time frame...just stick on the pan and apparently they would get done by wishing them that way.

I mean I know what biscuits usually cook on, but not everyone does. I had a thought of some newlywed trying to fix their first dinner and getting this can with no directions. That would be terrible!

And you never thought to tell your mom! For shame! [8D]

I think I got the same email--until then, I don't think I had ever noticed it before.
