I want to get my lip pierced really bad.
How do you guys feel about it??

Well, as someone who used to have both sides of her lip pierced (I had one side done, took it out for work and then got both sides done)...I don't have any problems with it. Also, from my experience, it's one of the least painful piercings that you can get. That's about all of my 2 cents :)

Lip piercings? My immediate thought was "ew".

But it's your decision to get one if ya want one. I would advise that you not get one if you plan on holding some form of professional job.

not to scare you or anything, but i've heard of people getting AIDS and HIV from piercing shops...

but if you really want one, dont let that stop you! [8D]


i personally dont like them. especially if it were on my husband. how am i supposed to kiss them without cutting my lip?!

There's no reason a lip ring would cut you unless they had some sort of weird spike thing in it :)

well, honestly i dont really approve it but if you want it go ahead..as long as youre not only doing it to "fit in" that's not too cool. because how God sees us is most important, not other people.[;)]

I don't particularly care. The piercing doesn't make the person. I wouldn't get one simply because I don't want to leak when I chug a Mt. Dew.......... I wonder if the carbonation stings a little on the way out...?

This is typically a labret piercing, which is the lip piercing in the middle of the lip/chin area. It can cause your gums to basically "scrape off" and hurt your tooth enamel. I've seen too many people have dental problems with a labret, I can't imagine ever getting one lol - ouch!

Then stop licking his lip, lol just messing with you. I don't think that's something that typically happens though. When I had my lip rings I never had a problem with anyone getting their tongue or tongue ring caught in them.

Oh but to the OP:
If you by chance decide to get one, do not...I repeat DO NOT put a labret stud in a lip ring placed on the side of your lip. I know it's kind of random, but I always warn people about this. If you put a labret stud (which has a flat circular back on it) in a hole on the side of your lip it can get caught on your teeth and rip out. I didn't know this and put one in mine when I was 16, I couldn't even talk without the stud getting caught on my teeth. That's when I learned it's a bad BAD idea lol.
Anyways, do what you want, :P. Unless you have convictions against getting the piercing there's nothing wrong with it.

I had always been told pierce w.e. ya want your not getting any tatoo's because piercings can grow back and you have to get tatoo's laser removed... and I like piercings I had 6 at one point... but I took the belly ring out and let it grow up and I realized it was good thing I didnt want people to see me in that way in anymore..I felt I shouldnt have it, I felt it was from the past and thats not who I was anymore, Although I still have 5 peircings all in my ears but I dont feel convicted to take them out and I have prayed about it and if God told me to take them out I would take them out with no compliant

I dont care so much for lip rings...but if thats what you want...I say atleast pray about it first before getting it done.

I see no problem with it. Just make sure you pick a clean piercing place so you don't pick up any infections. It's not avisable if you wanna work in a professional industry (office-style job) as it is not looked fondly upon, but yeah, go for it.

Yeah, I work with kids. That's why I'm like, grrr. Cos they'll probably rip it out. And that wouldn't be good. But who knows. I might get something else pierced. Maybe like my ears? I don't know. I was hanging out with a friend after class. And she made a last minute decision. We went to this place so she could get her lip pierced. It didn't look like it hurt, and it made me want mine done.

About a year ago there were two studies that were released about the same time.

One said that fish had enough nerve endings in their lips to sense the pain of a hook.
The other said that fish didn't have enough brain cells to interpret the sensory signals from a hook in the the lip as pain.

I think that some people don't have enough brain cells to interpret lip piercing as stoooopid.

But then I am old school. When I was your age, the only ones who had piercings were the mutants in Mad Max movies.
Now everyone dresses, pierces and tattoos like the pagans of old and like the post apocalyptic bads guys.

I prefer to see outward signs of Christ within.

I think a bunch of ugly people, like circus freaks started the fad and convinced good looking people to do it to be cool just as a kind of vengeance against beauty.

I'd like to ask that you, sir, do not call the interests of another person "stupid".
The outward signs of Christ are love and humility, among other things. Not physical appearance. If one is the perfect looking cookie cutter Christian and yet have none of the proper qualities, what good is he?
But.... not everyone has enough brain cells to comprehend that. *cough*

Does anyone recall that in the bible women especially had piercings other places then their ears? Yeah.....I'm really so sure that God doesn't care if we have a ring in our nose like the women of that day did. Some people take it too far and do it for reasons that are ridiculous. But not everyone.

I wanted a lip ring. most of the rumors are false. Alas, I'm going into the military. So no "odd" piercings for me.

Um.. I think the OP asked for opinions and expected to get honest ones in order to take a decision.

And my primary statement is " I prefer to see outward signs of Christ within. " which emphasizes Christ on the inside rather than appearances.

I hire people for jobs. Guess what. My opinion (as wrong as it is) counts more than those who don't hire people for jobs. There are others who hire people who don't care about piercings. And their opinion counts as much as mine. What you wear in piercings and tattoos is not just a fashion statement like clothing and makeup that can be easily changed. It is a message as to how you see yourself as a part of the community or not.

Somebody considering a piercing should hear opinions from saintly people like you and from jerks like me, before taking a decision. Thanks for your love.

Completely wrong. I would not appreciate my girlfriend coming to church wearing a miniskirt and half of a shirt, especially after she professes Christ. Part of being Christlike is presenting yourself apart from the world. One can be the most righteous individual in the world but not a Christian, and would mean absolutely nothing. So actually, the outward signs of Christ not only include manner, but also appearance.

The Bible also records slavery, rape, homosexuality, and other atrocities. Does this mean the Bible condones them?

As for my opinion on this subject. I personally think piercings other than ear are a bit ugly. I think they destroy what once was a beautiful face. I've seen it over and over in the high school I went to in northern Chicago. Very attractive girls would become depressed, they would get these lip and nose piercings, and what once was a beautiful, tender, pleasant young lady is now hard to look at, let alone speak to. I STRONGLY advise against it. But, this is just my humble opinion, and it is ultimately your choice.

Apparently I was misunderstood. Obviously, no "Christian" in their right mind would walk around dressed like a hooker. I still believe that character is more important then looks, albeit we still have to be careful with looks as well.
I've read my bible enough to distinguish what it condones and what it doesn't. A piercing is hardly a sin nor does it destroy a "Christian" outer appearance. The other things you mentioned wouldn't take a rocket scientist to know they are wrong, and the bible makes that perfectly clear. I've had more opportunities and have been approached more after going with how I wanted to look rather then the plain-jane appeal and never doing anything out of the ordinary.
Here's where I answer the question on a personal note:
Beachcookie, seeing your picture now, do or don't I think as far as looks go you'd be just fine. In the professional world, you'll probably have to take it out depending on which direction you go.

Wow, that'd kinda harsh. So I guess I don't have enough brain cells, right? That is basically what you are saying. If you say you're supposed to show God's love to others, you shouldn't insult them. God is full of love and understanding.

I'm not feeling convicted. I don't feel that God's telling me not to. But I should pray about it.
