Sigh... I got home at 9:30 this morning to fighting offspring. They were fighting over who got the first turn when Mom unlocked the computer. Um, what do y'all think happened?!

I had the most frustrating conversation with my neighbor last night. I had talked with her about ds2. She's really opened up to me now that she sees my flaws. Anyway, he came over last night, trying to convince me that we should send ds2 to public school. Um, with the trouble he's already getting into, we're not sure that would be a good idea. To which he said "every family needs to have a sacrificial lamb, and it looks like ds2 is yours". I was speechless. Throwing ds2 to the wolves to benefit the rest of the family?! I DON'T THINK SO!!! As much as ds2 drives me nuts, I am NOT giving up on him.

Word has gotten out about the kids setting the fire in the woods. Thankfully all the neighbors consider it "stupid boy stuff".

Ellie-Mae--what is it that you think you need to do to get ready for FOT? We're coming to VISIT and have fun, not inspect every last corner for dirt!

That's terrible!

I am reading a book called "Explosive Children" as I will be helping home school my neighbor's "problem child" this year.

Funny how the public school thinks home schooling is a better setting for kids with troubles?

Hazel, keep lovingly training you child at home with everyone else.

It would be terrible to be sent away for your problems like the proverbial scape goat of OT times.

I fail to see how that would help anyone! All that would accomplish is add hundreds of other kids and dozens of other adults to the mix of influences, temptations and opportunities to succeed/fail.

I think limited opportunities are in order until there is a better track record of success. Failing at home i.e. losing your temper and throwing a fit, is a lot easier to live down and grow out of than a melt-down at school.

And with the added stress of all those people and their demands, I think lapses of judgement are more likely in a kid whose already struggling to make the better choice.

And if you are talking high school/middle school, there is a steady supply of other troubled kids applauding misbehavior and making other troubled kids hero for a day. Not very helpful.

Not that I know much at all about your son. But these are the reasons my friend is home schooling her troubled child this coming year....

Grrr. I am frustrated for you about the job. Sorry I missed the post earlier, or I would've hugged you right away.

Jennyfair,

I am so sorry about the job loss. I know you are frustrated-I would be too.

quote:

So they would be okay if this were pagan times and the god of the land came and took one of their children to sacrifice to the god of that time? I guess they would push them into the fire themselves.

Nate is about halfway through a Key to book. In the beginning it was easy but of course has gotten more difficult. So he just told me that he should do the books backwards so that they get easier!

I told him he was missing the point, lol.

Well, I got home from running errands to find a note that said, 'going to run errands with the V family (that girl), going to pick up my bike, then going to youth group'. So, he won't be home until after nine. And I don't know how he's going to pick up his bike and helmet-they are at my mom's, whose house is locked. But then, he was supposedly locked out of this house, too.

The community college is offering a debate camp for middle-schoolers and up next week. I am trying to get Nate signed up, but the gal referenced in the article isn't answering her email or phone.

I need to know soon if he's going to be able to go, though, because I have to take him on a dry run of the bus routes and navigating the college campus. It's a big place for a little kid.

Jen, sorry about the job.
I think I am going to move by Jen for half the year and by Ezri the other half!
You both seem to have a lot of interesting things for kids to do.
We have the fair...and that's about it. There's a pool about 15 miles away and it closes the beginning of August...pretty dumb if ya ask me!!!

Dumb is an understatement on that one! Seems to me they could make more money than any other two weeks of summer by being open right before school starts.

Don't get too excited...but I start a new job tomorrow. It's VERY temporary, which is fine as it's pretty low-pay, but that's still more than unemployment pays. There is a possibility for advancement, though.

I'm glad it's something, Jennifer, but will surely continue to pray for the right thing to come along for you. I keep praying that the Lord will reveal what is holding things back and direct you on what to do to get a really great, permanent job that will be good for your family.

She is smart! I think there's a good reason she gets the title "forums mother".

Well, I am reading a new book in preparation for adding G to my home school next year, The Explosive Child. So far it is making good sense, and I think it will be useful.

I've not had a lot of experience with special needs ED before, but we seem to get along pretty well. I am taking him with my kids and Mai to the river for a picnic.

I ordered graduation announcements today for my dd Sam. I hope they come in before college starts, but if not, oh well....

Why would a defiant fifteen year old who walks out when he's not supposed to and won't tell me where he's going all of a sudden ask permission to go to the library?

simply because he IS 15...and while his body looks more like a man's...he is still a little boy. He has all these things wrestling inside of him....and you, dear mother, get the brunt.

I am sorry about the job offer...but then again..I am not. God has always provided and taken care of you Jennifer...so while you are disappointed in this...be assured...God has something better out there for you.....He always does!

Okay all you moms, I want advice.

I will soon be mailing to Michael the very last of his possessions over here, but I am waiting for the DVD of our very Christ-honoring graduation ceremony to come in the mail.

What kind of note should I include? I am thinking of this:

quote:

Psalm 34: 8-10
8 Taste and see that the LORD is good;
blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.
9 Fear the LORD, you his saints,
for those who fear him lack nothing.

10 The lions may grow weak and hungry,
but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.

Wishing you all God's best, The Sasscers

The thing is, we still love him very much and want to encourage him in the Lord, but I am afraid if we use the word "love" in there anywhere it might be misconstrued as an invitation to return.

Shadow-

I like the verse you have in mind. I also wanted to ask how your daughter is doing(it was her with the eye issues right?) and see how Mia is doing as well.

On our front Mr. B was given the definition of several key words last night. Truth, Lie, Purity, Pout, Manipulation and a few other important words. He tried to chat his way around the definitions and when trill would not hear his excuses he did his pouting thing again and said "If that is the way you feel then perhaps we need to take a week off." I have a feeling he did not get the answer he wanted. What was her answer? "That sounds like a good idea Mr. B, a week it is. I will talk to you next Monday."

I am so proud of her standing firm. Please continue in prayer for both the girls as well as Jerry, Mr. B, and myself. Mr. B wrote Triss a snail mail letter again placing all the blame for his position on another's doorstep and not taking responsibility for his own actions. She kinda got sucked in by it. I hate he is having issues at home but I have spoken with his mum and she has told me more than once that everything started going down hill when Mr. B decided he had a girl and was a man and did not have to "do" around the house if it interferred with his Girl Time.

ezri--what a great mom you are and what great kids you are raising!!!

Jennifer--great news on the job! Hopefully it will turn out better than expected.

Cynthia--you are falling behind on your job. I just got TOSed. From two or three pages ago. Silly me I said a bad word when I posted about the valve with stripped threads.

I went grocery shopping this evening. I bought a bunch of stuff for FOT. I'm starting to get excited!!!

Oh, right before dinner we had some excitement. I called the kids for dinner. Ds1 had been lying on the couch watching TV. He got up and walked to the kitchen and promptly passed out. Not totally, I was able to catch him and hold him until he recovered. Uh, I'm 5'5". He's 6'. That wasn't easy! He did recover quickly, but it did give us a scare! Ds1 and I both laughed about it. Dh was mad that we were laughing. Coach agreed that it wasn't funny. I suspect that either his blood sugar was low or his heart rate and blood pressure are low (common in athletes). Certainly a bit of excitement!

Jesse saw his immunologist today for a check up. He had a bunch of blood work (just routine checking kind of blood work, not we're worried about something blood work) and all in all the doc is pleased with how he's doing. Jesse is to start having a retinal exam every 6 months now, because as they learn more about this they've discovered that basically no body system is safe. We did learn that they've found 2 other boys with this, which brings the total up to 10 that they know of. One of those boys recently had to have a heart transplant because of this disease. We are praying for that boy (don't know who he is, but God does) and adding autoimmune cardiomyopathy to the list of things Jesse is NOT going to have - no Crohn's, no lupus, no rheumatoid arthritis, no kidney issues, and no cardiomyopathy. We're just not doing it. So there.

The car that is not already at the shop is having another issue. I hate to say this, but I might not make it to FOT. I am not sure I will have a car that will safely make the trip. I'm not making the final decision until the weekend, after I've seen what it will do over the next couple of days, but it's not looking good.

Shadow, that verse looks perfect for what you have in mind.

His, tell your kid to change position slowly, for heaven's sake. He is too big for you to have to catch him.

Oh, Cindy! It seems that everyone is having difficulties. I am blaming it all on the fuel prices. I am glad that you are not making a final decision yet. I am still hoping that you can come.

I lost my copy of A Biblical Home Education, by Dr. Beechick, but knew I must have lent it out. Finally today I found out who has it and she's right across the street, so I'll get it back tomorrow. I'm so relieved.

WOF - praying for your stone zapping!

WOF & Annie - praying for your aching hearts as you miss your dds!

quote:

Sigh... I got home at 9:30 this morning to fighting offspring. They were fighting over who got the first turn when Mom unlocked the computer. Um, what do y'all think happened?!
His - Let me venture a guess - Mom didn't unlock the computer!? This SO sounds like something my kids would do! And I'm shocked at what your neighbor said! I don't know what else to say about it. Praying ds1 doesn't have anymore passing out episodes!

Jen - praying for things on the job front, whether it be this new temp one or some other.

Ez - praying for you all & the B family too! Sounds like his parents are pretty tired of his behavior also! He doesn't realize it now, but he is really lucky to have so many Godly, loving people around him. If none of you cared, you'd just let him get away with acting like that! Of course, I'm sure he can't see that right now! Praying he sees it soon!

Cindy - praying your car issues clear up & you are able to go to FOT!

Cynthia - so glad you figured out who has your book! We have moved & had books & DVDs missing & never figured out who we lent them to. We did have one friend get to Korea & realize they had a DVD of ours. She just sent me a check to replace it, because that was easier! I was really good for a while about labeling everything before I lent it out.

Dh had to be to work early today. I didn't sleep very well, so I'm tired. I hate to say this, but I think I'm getting another sinus infection. It started with a sore throat & ear ache (just like last time) and I woke up in the middle of the night draining! I'm taking Mucinex & going to use my nasal cleansing pot. But if I don't feel better by tomorrow, I may call the doctor. We are leaving Sunday on vacation & I don't want to wait until we're there or enroute & get really hit with it. Unfortunately, I think they need me to have had it 3 days before they'll prescribe anything. Hopefully, I can head it off & not have to worry about it! I have to drop dd & her friend (who spent the night) off at Worship Arts Camp this morning, then I have a meeting about the college savings stuff & I have to pick up the newsletter at the printers. I have so much I need to do here, but I can't seem to get a day to stay home & do it!

I just went through a HUGE pile of close. Separating them into winter, grow into, sentimental, garbage and sell. I am so proud of myself. Most went into garbage or sell, and I had only a tiny pile of sentimental. I am also getting rid of a bunch of winter coats that I have kept from toddlerhood.

His, I am going to say 20 for the kids run, I can't imagine having more than that this year.
