July has been canceled due to lack of interest, and stunned denial in time passing so quickly.

June will have 60 days this year.

*wink*wink*

edited to add the denial bit...

LOL Ezri ...

And yes, holiday ... the joys of being in Canada and being 'gipped' of a long weekend because today is a Tuesday!!! (Not that it matters, dh works for a company with a US contract, so he has to work ALL of our holidays ... he gets the 4th off though -- but he has Fridays and Saturdays off anyway .....)

My friend's dad has his birthday today as well. We tease him every year about it ... he runs a local dance group, and every year they (we, when I'm not pregnant) dance on a float in the parade ... so we keep telling him in honour of his birthday, we got the whole city together to give him a parade and more!!!

BTW, because it is Canada day, I may not be in the chat tonight ... thinking about taking the kids to the fireworks.

Jen, it is ok. The first time that I ever heard a story like that one was when I was pregnant for David. I felt so helpless when I was pregnant because I didn't know how I would defend myself while carrying a baby and being so clumsy. The depravity of humans will never cease to amaze and horrify me.

I am in denial too... Did we have June this year?? I am not sure that I even remember May!

Ez, I feel so bad for you. It is only made worse by these stupid gas prices! I can't tell you how frustrated I am at not being able to figure out a way to get to visit y'all. We haven't given up, but God hasn't showed us how yet. I also hate how much time has been wasted on this stupid thyroid of mine.

Have fun on your holiday Kara!!!

My MIL's bday was Nov 11th (Veteran's Day). Dh's aunt told us that when MIL was little, she thought they got the day off school because it was her birthday!

Didn't even think when I posted in the June thread this morning that it's already July! I'm with Ezri - time is going too fast!!

We still don't know what we are doing on the 4th. We had called to ask what dh's family is doing & were told that some of them have to work & those who don't are going out on SIL's ex-husband's boat. Then we were told by someone else that we weren't invited (or they didn't want the kids coming, or didn't have enough room or some such thing - the connection kept cutting in & out so we didn't get the full story). Dh wanted to know if I want to go anyway. I told him not if we were going to just have to sit at someone's house all day on the 4th - we can do that here! So, we may end up just staying here this weekend.

I also agree that June went way too fast.

I have to make a decision today whether to continue karate class through the summer or not. I am leaning toward not.

Well, it isn't like he is behind in karate, Jen. A break might be nice. We are laying off piano lessons for the most part this summer.

we have no plans for the 4th...and since I finally feel good enough to get out that really stinks. I hate being in such a lonely place with no one around.

We're doing what we normally do on a Friday night-go to service. It is a bit different though because we are going to have dinner before service starts. After service is over we will all head to the fireworks.

They told us they expect 75 people for potluck. I'm not sure where all these people are coming from. I went to the sign up sheet and saw that for the main dish, they only want chicken. They needed 10 people to bring it and they had to bring enough for 8-10 people.

I signed up for dessert. I did that because I don't want to worry about keeping the chicken warm and then trying to keep it cool afterwards if there's any leftover.

Dh asked me if he could bring burgers and hot dogs-I told him that they only wanted chicken and I had already signed up for dessert.

Disgusting. But I don't think things like that can be attributed just to the depravity of humans. I think someone must seriously be demon possessed to even consider doing such an awful thing. That poor mother and what she must have gone through before she died...

Today is my parents' 29th anniversary. They made the mistake of going to Niagara Falls to celebrate one year...and forgot it is Canada Day. LOL

Sarah, I know it stinks for you there, but maybe God has given you this time to just BE as a family, KWIM? Is there a parade in your area? A chicken BBQ? Fireworks? You can still celebrate the 4th. Find out what cool things your community offers and get out there and do them (if you feel up to it...but I know you're like me and feel tons better after baby is born, so you probably are up to it). I pray you will run across a family who is also lonely and looking for friends just like you. (((((((((((((((((Sarah))))))))))))))))

Our plans for the 4th...Brian will probably be driving the VBS float in the parade again, which entails all of us being up early and bringing him there and then "trying" to find him afterwards (ha...that was fun last year...we are so picking a meeting place this time!). Hopefully, he'll take at least Noah or Nick with him...probably Nick would be best because Noah can help me and Nick hasn't gotten to do much special lately and Noah has. The other kids and I will wander the park and get some fried dough as a treat. After the parade, we'll find Brian and then head over to my mom and dad's for a BBQ. Fireworks at night, if it doesn't rain. For this, we will make sure and separate from everyone...we really enjoy this time with JUST us and our kids. It's nice the 4th is on Friday this year, so Brian doesn't have to get up and go to work, although he will spend all day Saturday hauling firewood out of the state lands with my dad.

Sarah,
I know how you feel. Anytime there's a get together with my congregation, I bring a book so I have something to do if I can't get in a conversation. This Friday will be no different. After I eat I'm sure I will need something to do.

Yeah, except they ended up coming back to the NY side because they hadn't booked a hotel ahead and there were no rooms. LOL

Paul is supposed to be finding out what is going on at a park around here. There is a really big A/G church that hosts some sort of thing there every year, and we may go to that (weather depending...if it's too hot then we won't go because the baby doesn't need to be out in that sun).

Part of the loneliness I know is from just no one being here...and when everyone was visiting last week I wasn't here, I was stuck in the hospital. So the most I got to see anyone was not even two hours of time in the two visits where they all came up to the hospital (one was less then an hour after Justice was born, so I wasn't exactly feeling all that well right then...I hadn't even been able to get up out of bed and get cleaned up yet, and it was very hectic...the dr/nurses had barely cleared out of the room by then). At this point I would be willing to talk to anyone....I mean seriously...the most I talk to anyone IRL that isn't in my household is when I go to the store and talk to the person at the check out...or talking with the nurses at the hospital last week.

I also hate that we now are stuck looking for another church...yet again. I feel like we have visited every church in this area and already ruled them out as potential places we could go. It's very overwhelming. Never in my life have I had so much trouble finding a church to go to.

We're doing NUTHIN' on the 4th. I'm tired of the whole holiday build up, then let down. We'll probably do a BBQ with some special side dishes. We won't do fireworks.

I finally got my birthday gift!!! From last year. We had an old hand-me-down wooden picnic table. It was in sad shape when we got it 6 or 7yrs ago. It was so bad that we couldn't use it last summer. In previous years, we ate outside every night. So, last year dh said he'd get me a new one. We went out last night and got a really nice one. I can't wait to use it for dinner tonight! Since my birthday is next week, I suspect this will count as gift for this year, too...

I agree that this summer is going by way too fast! July isn't too bad--only one away race. August is gonna be busy! First FOT, then son and/or I have two away races. September isn't lookng much better!

His-Enjoy your new picnic table! Happy Birthday (early)!!!!!!

Well, now that I am not a homeschool and/or sahm I will be working on the 4th. Thankfully, I am off at 4:00 so we will still be able to go out and find a fireworks display. I hope that the fireworks don't get cancelled...we are having an extended drought.

Sarah,

When I was on Ft Sill they had a thriving Protestant Women of the Chapel Group. It was a non-denominational group of women that had ladies within the group do workshops/bible studies at least during the school year. They also had funding to PAY for child care for the kiddos during the bible study time. It was a good time of growth and fellowship for me and encouraged me to seek out the PWoC on Ft Belvoir when we got there. I still have "net" contact with two of the families I met there. We even had a homeschool get together once a week in summer and then did a science coop during the winter months. PWoC was my connection.

You do NOT have to attend the post chaple to go to PWoC. Matter of fact NONE of us homeschooling families attended the chapel.

this is a slide show they did at their Spring Retreat last year.

Vicky is the contact listed on the PWoC site <-- scroll to Ft Sill

The group looks like a good mix of ladies.

I am cancelling at least this week due to lack of interest . . . and money.

My car needs some serious work. It won't pass inspection and my mechanic has advised that I not drive it, so I've been driving Patrick's car. That's the one my dh put the alternator in on Sunday. Yesterday I went out there and it wouldn't start. As in, the engine tries to crank and then it just stops. It's definitely not something simple, and my dh thinks it might be serious enough to not be worth repairing. The only thing I can drive is the truck, and I can't afford to drive the truck everywhere. I am going to limp my car over to the mechanic and beg him to fix at least enough of it that I can drive it (the exhaust system can probably wait) on a postdated check. He has offered to do that before when I didn't really need him to, but now I need him to and I think he probably will. I think I have about $50 left in my purse and nothing else coming in till Wednesday.

My MIL is still in the small hospital. I need to sit down and talk with her. I honestly don't think she understands how serious the surgery she needs is. She really doesn't have a good shot at a decent outcome if she has it done there. In the end it's her decision, but I am really not comfortable with her staying there and I want to make sure she's informed. It doesn't even sound like the several doctors she has are talking to each other, and I know if she came up there there would be a team approach and everyone would be on the same page. With this surgery, there is a very strong correlation between the number done at the hospital per year and positive outcomes.

We will most likely stay here on the 4th. Our neighbors always shoot off fireworks, and frankly the going to the park and fighting traffic and finding a decent spot thing is losing its thrill. Depending on what goes on with my MIL we may not even be here.

And I'm on vacation this week. Aaargh. Well, at least I don't have to worry about getting back and forth to work, but I have to admit I'm not having much fun at the moment.

thanks Ez...I couldn't do anything like that while pregnant but I was going to try to find a contact for PWOC this week since I am not pregnant anymore and can now get out and about. I have been involved in it before at other bases...but when I asked about it here they said it was almost non existent because of the chapel being closed for maintenance. Obviously whoever I asked was W-R-O-N-G...the pics prove that. Oh well...I couldn't have done much until now anyway.

btw...I love that song

Hazel, yay for the picnic table...better late than never! Brian's birthday is Sunday and he already knows he's not getting anything. His new grill was both his Father's Day and birthday present...and we're broke.

Go wrestle some goats, Cindy. That'll improve your mood, I'm sure. Sorry so much is going wrong at once...that stinks. Maybe you'll find something fun on your vacation...maybe? $50 til Wednesday...meaning tomorrow or NEXT Wednesday?

Julia, ick on working...but yeah...retail will do that to ya every time. I hope you can find some fireworks and still have some fun!

Sarah, I hope the PWOC group works out perfectly for you! That's the same kind of group Sandy has, isn't it?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hannah was supposed to have her fishing date with Daddy last night. They went and it started raining. They stayed a little bit to fish, and never got a nibble. So they came home and postponed until a later date...except Brian has to work on the VBS float all this week. I think I'm going to hear about her fishing trip with Daddy until I go insane.
Umm, that would be next Wednesday, as in the 9th. I do have a little room on a credit card if we should really need something, but I'm trying to avoid that. We have enough groceries and we'd be fine to just stay here, but my kids were looking forward to me having some time off so we can do something fun.
Cindy,
I'm sorry that the vehicles are giving you fits.
Our dance leader is away this week so I am responsible for teaching and leading dance. I have the congregational I-pod that has the songs on it. The unfortunate thing is that I don't have head phones to fit it so I can't listen to any of the songs until practice Wed. In looking through the list of songs I think I know all of them except the one titled "Psalm 9". I am hoping that once I do hear the music I will remember the dance. If not, I'll be making something up on the spot.
My blessing just told me that her throat is itchy. She was lying down this morning which is a bit unusual for her , but she is acting normal and playing now. She's ahd some tea with honey and lemon. I hope it doesn't come into a full-blown cold or other virus.
